Romeo? 🤔

(TBH, Apple is just as bad...)

But, seriously, celebrity names are stupid!

I like Calypso- fell in love with the name when I watched The Chamomile Lawn. Coincidentally for the nice, safe namers on this the thread, the youngest child in the family in the story is a Sophie. Grin

There was a Russian man competing in the luge yesterday whose first name was Semen. I assume it’s a perfectly sensible name in Russia, but it doesn’t work so well in English. (He probably doesn’t care about that though).^
That's the Russian version of Simeon (or Simon, if you will Wink) and is pronounced sem-YON, the YO actually being a single short vowel (a monophthong) which is hard to render into English. It's Russian spelling is Семён but the "umlaut" over the letter ё is often dropped in writing, hence the lazy (but common) transliteration of Semen.

The Spanish Jesus is pronounced he-SOOS.

turquoise kind of like how in Germany being called Fanny is perfectly normal... Blush

gezzab33 · 15/02/2018 08:23

I once heard of a child in Glasgow being called Versace McLatchie. Might be an urban myth.

ralfeesmum · 15/02/2018 10:48

Didn't some film star/producer name one of his children "Satchel"?

Gawd!

MikeUniformMike · 15/02/2018 11:00

I'm surprised at the Cass spelling. Surely Kass would have been more in keeping.

dustarr73 · 15/02/2018 12:06

Woody Allen and Mia Farrow.I think she calls herself Dylan now.

HeartCurrent · 16/02/2018 10:54

Cass Mac Rooney
Or to my ears,
Cass macaroni.

CakeNinja · 16/02/2018 12:09

The one and only time I put ds into the gym Crèche. I noticed triplets had also been signed in, with names Red, Blue and Gray Shock
Individually you could get away with one at a push but naming 3 children colours?!
It’s probably quite unique, so apologies if you’re reading and it’s you, I was just slightly gobsmacked for a moment Grin
Romeo is pretty popular now I think, it wouldn’t be my choice but I don’t place it in the same ranks as some of these bonkers sleb offerings.

Trinity66 · 16/02/2018 12:11

of all the names you had to choose from Romeo isn't even that bad Grin

SteamyBeignets · 16/02/2018 12:13

I always wonder what will happen if you name your Child NULL. Some old computer software will not be able to process their data.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 16/02/2018 12:56

😂

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 16/02/2018 17:33

I forgot, my favourite ever DT birth announcement- a little girl called Brittany Agincourt Calais. Presumably hedging bets as to place of conception?

ForalltheSaints · 16/02/2018 18:50

Romeo? Now wasn't he one of So Solid Crew, most of whom other than Lisa Maffia had criminal convictions (real not musical)?

Turnocks34 · 16/02/2018 19:38

I once taught twins, a boy and a girl, Fifi Capulet and a Purple Montague. Their older sister had left the school by the time I started but she was called Sharlie Shakespeare.

TeaAddict235 · 16/02/2018 19:39

Oh come on, so it's okay to call children Grace, Hero and Faith as they conjure up images of thin wispy blonde girls, whereas it's not okay to be called precious, or Victory? Double sided prejudices really.

One of the cleverest Women that I have ever worked with was a nanoparticle specialist called Krystel. White and British, very nice and fun to be with. Her name did not hold her back, and I wish her all the best at success. One of the mind numbingly stupidest (?) Women I'd ever worked with had a typical 'naice' bland names. She was soooo daft that she didn't know that Excel could do sums.

Seriously anyone of those Romeos, Apples, Preciouses, neveahs, etc could be the one who solves calculations to get humans on to Mars, solves the food crises, helps to predict and avoid Tsunamis. This thread tells a lot!

...it could be true but more likely that the parents were just fooling about. I still call my now adult kids 'hilarious' made up names when we are in the supermarket. It's something we have done for years. 💁🏻 I'm hoping that there will be a thread about them one day.

Tapandgo · 16/02/2018 20:12

Tea addict , Yes ~ Tsunami wouldn’t be a good name choice 😂😂

TeaAddict235 · 16/02/2018 20:58

@Tapandgo Hehee. Why not, live and let live. My name is 'odd' by many standards and I always have to explain it. But I celebrate my cultural heritage. It's not odd, it's unique and fresh, and has been part of the making of me.

CakeNinja · 16/02/2018 21:45

Gert, those were definitely their names, they went to clubs with ds for a little while when they were old enough Grin

NewMinouMinou · 16/02/2018 22:14

Jihad means “righteous struggle” or sth similar, so it’s akin to the (admittedly unusual) British Puritan name Endeavour.

I’m also feeling the Tybalt love.

DS has a somewhat controversial name. It’s actually very old and quite conventional in Northern and Eastern Europe, but some people have really lost their minds over it.

LostMyBaubles · 16/02/2018 22:17

I knew someone called dudu

Which in our language means milk or boobs lol
And he spoke the same language

justbinthefeckinbyebyebox · 16/02/2018 22:28

Cass Mac
Or full name Castleford McDonalds ?????
Grin

Estellanpip · 17/02/2018 08:37

Someone said Cass Mac sounds like 'gas mask' to their ear, I kind of see what they mean!

MikeUniformMike · 17/02/2018 08:50

Maybe he was named after... you know like Brooklyn Beckham.
