Does mumsnet ever ban or sanction persistent troll hunters

Just that really
I have noticed on some threads even when HQ comes in and says they have checked out the person and they are not a troll posters on here still pile in with troll accusations.
The procedure is to report and then let HQ decide, I have been accused of being a troll a few times and it can really hurt so I dread to think how someone who has really got up the courage the post about things.
Why can’t people just report if they have suspicions and leave it to HQ rather then have a go at the Op who is more then likely genuine.

OP posts:

Grin I knew it, @SophieLMumsnet. Further sanctions have been contemplated.

LindySprint · 11/02/2018 16:25

How do people have such detailed views on mntrolls unless they keep going there? Confused

Coconutspongexo · 11/02/2018 17:00

Million dollar question that lindy

Battleax · 11/02/2018 17:13

Exactly Lindy. They must spend hours on there to be spotting all this microscopic detail. Talk about hunting down things to be offended about.

Why does MNTrolls have to be brought up here so often though? Why not leave them alone to do their thing? If they're reading this board and picking out troll threads here, what does it matter? Posters here are reporting anyway.

notmyredditusername365 · 11/02/2018 21:01

I have a look at that reddit group most days. Is there a reason why I shouldn't? Horses for courses and all that. For all the protests that people on here are sad to be so interested in reddit, you can say the exact same in reverse. Oh and yes of course I have nc just to say this before people waste time with the advanced search button.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 11/02/2018 21:10

Who's telling you that you shouldn't read or post there? Nobody cares really, do they? I used to read Digital Spy in the days of Big Brother, never posted there though.

DragonsDen · 11/02/2018 21:17

I don't understand the interest in that group to be honest. There was thread over there ages ago about someone on here who had left her husband. That poster had posted here for support and the thread on Reddit was terrible. I haven't looked since as it wasn't nice and they ripped that poster to shreds. All they'd done was post on MN for support yet their thread was posted over on Reddit.

Grown women who class themselves as Trollhunters is pathetic. They probably should get a life if that's all they have to do with their time.

notmyredditusername365 · 11/02/2018 21:29

That's exactly why I read it DragonsDen - its terrible but intriguing. There's probably a book in there somewhere, or at least a long newspaper article.

paxillin · 11/02/2018 21:43

Lots of MNetters have FB groups dedicated to tearing into others or MNetters from the same region or MNetters with the same issues... The only difference is the openness of the sub.

I am a MNetter and on the sub, I have nothing to hide. I am there and here for the fun. Like most people, I try not to be goady or insulting. It is not against the rules of either site, there is no exclusivity agreement for chatting on the internet.

No need to look for gangs, cliques, fanclubs. There is no "them" and "us". Every single one of those who talk about this is a current or recent MNetter as well as on the sub; at least as lurkers.

DragonsDen · 11/02/2018 21:43

I felt sorry for that poster. She'd posted a few threads on here looking for help/support and they were disgusting about her. That particular poster had been on here for years and was no troll yet they picked her life apart.

MincemeatTart · 11/02/2018 21:43

You are right DragonsDen. It’s a small group of nasty, bitter people.

paxillin · 11/02/2018 21:47

There have been upsetting threads on the sub, @DragonsDen. Same as on MN. They have not been unopposed, neither here nor there. The guidelines are stricter here, which means threads which upset people get deleted. With that deletion go the unpleasant posts, but also the supportive ones and all the "hang on, this is not great" ones. It is the internet here and there, so visible to the public.

paxillin · 11/02/2018 21:49

It’s a small group of nasty, bitter people. I am neither nasty nor bitter. I am generally very peaceful, strive to be diplomatic and understanding and of a fairly sunny disposition.

DragonsDen · 11/02/2018 21:55

Mincemeat I don't know who or what they are but what I read about a poster asking for support was disgusting. I never went back after that. That woman had written every emotion she felt on here and they thought it was acceptable to link her post then be nasty about her.

Paxillin it's up to individual posters what they choose to do, I don't find it funny when threads are started being horrible to others. If you do that's your choice.

Some people on that other site haven't left the playground judging from what I read a few months ago.

paxillin · 11/02/2018 21:59

Some people on that other site haven't left the playground judging from what I read a few months ago. But surely that's true for the whole internet, MN included?

Do you agree with every single last thread on MN? Even the pervs and trolls? Because you are acting as though every poster on the sub is responsible for every thread. By that logic, we are all responsible for and fully behind every horrible post on MN, including the recent spell of racists. I refute that.

You don't have to believe me, @JaneyEJones. You can of course AS me here and there, I'm sure you are aware I do not namechange.

Potsandpans1 · 11/02/2018 22:28

I do think reddit have been right about some of the trolls such as the poo troll. But I don't think they are all that genuine. Surely if they were they would just report and leave it as that. But they all chat on reddit say nasty things. And then go on the mn thread as a group. And cause massive derailing and pick the op to shreds. And hide behinde we are trying to help. No there not. If they were they would just report. Everyone knows trolls like air time. The so called troll hunters give them that.

So why not just report the thread/ troll and leave it at that.

Battleax · 11/02/2018 22:49

And then go on the mn thread as a group. And cause massive derailing and pick the op to shreds.

Do they really?

I wasn't aware of that aspect. Can you link to one? I'd like to see this.

LindyHopSkipRunner · 11/02/2018 23:33

And then go on the mn thread as a group. And cause massive derailing and pick the op to shreds

Never seen that.

TheClaws · 12/02/2018 02:45

I’d back Paxillin up here. Pax, I’ve read your posts both on MN and on MNtrolls. Pax is often a calm voice in a sea of argument.

I don't post often but found reading MN during my hyperemesis pregnancy to be very helpful.

I generally only reply when I think I can add something useful to the discussion.

I started a thread once and was accused of being a troll and 'goady'- that was never my intention but it has put me off asking for advice or starting a thread due to the small number of people who accuse you of lying or appear to deliberately twist the intention of the OP.

Yes I'm sure that trolls are an issue but surely a simple flag to MNHQ is sufficient.
