Does mumsnet ever ban or sanction persistent troll hunters

Just that really
I have noticed on some threads even when HQ comes in and says they have checked out the person and they are not a troll posters on here still pile in with troll accusations.
The procedure is to report and then let HQ decide, I have been accused of being a troll a few times and it can really hurt so I dread to think how someone who has really got up the courage the post about things.
Why can’t people just report if they have suspicions and leave it to HQ rather then have a go at the Op who is more then likely genuine.

Dippin before this is deleted, this may be a poster who hasn't posted on any of the other threads.
Why not let them discuss it before the caped crusading Reddit squad you/pax/ battle as etc etc etc pounce?
I'm sure cote will be here any minute if not banned..

I agree with this. They find certain threads or posters. Decide they are a troll. (Or maybe know they are not a troll but like to start a bun fight) they then go and call their gang over who the detail/rip shit out of the op. They hide behinde we are helping vulnerable posters. Well help by just reporting if you think it's a troll then leave it for mnhq to deal with. But they won't because they like derailing threads and causing bunfights. Mnhq don't seem to do anything about it.

Slight digression but doesn't reddit have an automatic algorithm set up to add downvotes automatically when someone gets upvoted? I've never paid much attention but I'm sure I've read else where on the site it was implemented to deter cliques and bots.

Potsandpans1 · 11/02/2018 10:47

Paxillin is one of the few decent Redditors, and popular enough to speak their mind against some of the less savoury goings on over there without being massively downvoted and having their posts hidden, as I’ve seen happen to others

😂 it was a discussion a few days ago how people purposely down vote people who are not liked. Or if they don't agree.

yes reddit does vote fuzzing. So the number isn’t the actual number of up or down votes

TheClaws · 11/02/2018 10:54

The Reddit group might have started with good intentions, but now it’s just poisonous. Full of flouncy back-stabbers who love ripping posters to shreds. Odd place (and a bit troll-ish too).

HoneyDragon · 11/02/2018 10:57

Can we not post silly little comments like this please about posters? That’s exactly what caused people to post on Mumsnet that I had been banned, much to both mine and MNHQs bewilderment.

@keralanau - I think you might have misunderstand me. I meant anyone who is hunting out the trolls on Reddit itself (meaning people who are trolling Reddit) gets down voted and shunned. They deny there are any - which is extremely unlikely.

BoreOfWhabylon · 11/02/2018 11:02

@keralanau

Spot on. Especially this bit

All the pervert trolls, some Mumsnet posters here are quite capable of spotting and reporting themselves, mntrolls are not doing Mumsnet a service (most of them hate the place so why would they) it’s just used as an excuse to bitch about whoever they please.

HoneyDragon · 11/02/2018 11:06

No, I’d rather people know you like to infer things about other posters.

HoneyDragon · 11/02/2018 11:06

And I asked nicely, I didn’t tell you off fwiw.

Perhaps not the best place for people paranoid about their posts being down voted.

The off shoot forum thing isn't new either. It'll die a death just like all the rest. People get bored or fall out in smaller groups and these places get abandoned.

There was a particularly gossip laden one that was an off shoot from channel 4/digital spy and a brilliant one spawned from something awful. I could see the point of the SA one given people paid a fair bit of cash out from multiple bannings.

EdmundCleverClogs · 11/02/2018 11:16

It's upsetting to see posters in distress being accused of being trolls when it's apparent that they aren't.

What about the trolls and goady fuckers who start threads or say upsetting and disgusting things to other posters? Sometimes you have to say when someone is just being a deliberate arsehole - it’s not always right to point out a troll/gf but doesn’t mean it’s never right to do so.

Oh this is ALL about the Reddit? 🙄

Possibly why I feel like I've been talking in a fucking vacuum. Carry on and enjoy folks 😊

I think I had a troll hunter on my post about being mistreated as a child. It took a lot of gall for me to post and it wasn't easy to read an accusation I might be trolling
MN seems quite bad for it, worse than other sites. Why can't women be a bit more supportive of each other?

Estellanpip · 11/02/2018 13:15

Trolls and troll hunters are damaging.
I post on here all the time and give advice where I feel I can.
The one time I posted where I was at my lowest about something serious, I was slapped down with 'get counselling.', 'don't talk about things like that'. My guess is that people have become so pissed off with trolls that they didn't actually believe what I was saying.
I also find all the 'daily fail' mentions annoying as they clog up threads.

SophieLMumsnet · 11/02/2018 13:48

Hello all,

These threads tend to get removed because they take a bit of a turn. We don't want to put a stop to the discussion, so can we ask that TGs are stuck to? It's fine to disagree with each other in a robust way, but we think this can be done with civility.

We know we sound like a broken record - but please do report suspected trolls to us - we just don't allow troll-hunting and that's unlikely to change any time soon. We know the trolls are tedious, too, and we take them very seriously, but we don't think that open troll-hunting on threads is the answer.

Feel free to drop us a line with any concerns - either by reporting or mailing in at: [email protected].

Thanks Flowers

Potsandpans1 · 11/02/2018 14:08

@SophieLMumsnet is anything going to be done about the troll hunters. Who do cause alot of upset to genuine posters.

paxillin · 11/02/2018 14:15

But troll hunting post are deleted and persistent offenders are suspended and banned. What else is there to do, tar and feather them?

paxillin · 11/02/2018 14:15

*posts

SophieLMumsnet · 11/02/2018 14:19

As pax says, Potsandpans1 - when troll-hunting posts are reported to us, we delete them. If the poster's a persistent offender, we will have a word and if they carry on breaking guidelines, we will suspend or ban.
