Does mumsnet ever ban or sanction persistent troll hunters

Just that really
I have noticed on some threads even when HQ comes in and says they have checked out the person and they are not a troll posters on here still pile in with troll accusations.
The procedure is to report and then let HQ decide, I have been accused of being a troll a few times and it can really hurt so I dread to think how someone who has really got up the courage the post about things.
Why can’t people just report if they have suspicions and leave it to HQ rather then have a go at the Op who is more then likely genuine.

OP posts:

Troll hunters are part of the problem. Some of the troll hunters have taken it a step further trying to find people in real life and their identities, once they have decided are trolls. The repercussions of that are not harmless either.

Have you got proof of this?

keralanau · 11/02/2018 00:34

really? Do tell shock

It's quite self explanatory really.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 11/02/2018 00:36

I know this happened, Witches, but I'm not going to post screencaps etc - it definitely happened about 2012 or 2013. At least one regular poster was banned.

Battleax · 11/02/2018 00:36

Oh so no specifics? Just rumour? Probably didn't happen. Rumour is like that.

keralanau · 11/02/2018 00:39

It was on Reddit the other night. That thread has been hidden but it can be found. Many other examples too, one where exit data on photos posted over here has been used to find the location of suspected fantasists. It's all over there still. Many examples. Search for the key words.

If I'm not allowed to say any of this then I'm fine for this to be deleted. In fact I'll report my own post.

Battleax · 11/02/2018 00:41

In fact you should probably ask for your post to be deleted kera, you don't want to alarm people with baseless innuendo.

Battleax · 11/02/2018 00:42

X post.

Oh so a fantasist being unmasked? Nobody to put at risk then?

keralanau · 11/02/2018 00:45

You sound so sure it's innuendo Battleax, why is that I wonder. I've just mentioned where to find examples. Most have heard of the Reddit group. I know I'm not allowed to post links there.

keralanau · 11/02/2018 00:46

So that sort of stalking behaviour is fine if it's unmasking someone you think is a fantasist? Hmm

paxillin · 11/02/2018 00:48

Outing someone is never ok. I can't recall anyone being outed on MN by a trollhunter.

Battleax · 11/02/2018 00:48

I'm trying to work out what you're alluding to. It's difficult when you're being so evasive.

Broadly speaking, fantasists can only be debunked, which doesn't put anyone at risk, does it?

Originally you said "trying to find people in real life and their identities" which is quite different and wouldn't apply to a fantasist.

But as I say, you're being so vague that it's hard to follow.

Battleax · 11/02/2018 00:51

If it's the Reddit I think you mean, I've read it occasionally and they are quite firm about their "no doxxing@ rule.

So maybe you mean a more obscure Reddit?

You could give us a clue. Unless you're just waffling, that is.

Dljlr · 11/02/2018 00:51

Troll hunters irritate me. People who post personal explicit revealing intimate information in response to someone obviously getting their hairy handed rocks off also irritate me. Sometimes wonder why I come here Grin

Battleax · 11/02/2018 00:53

I think irritation is habit forming TBH Smile

keralanau · 11/02/2018 00:57

Originally you said "trying to find people in real life and their identities" which is quite different and wouldn't apply to a fantasist.

Well that's the irony. They believe the poster to be a fantasist but have been using some of the information she's posted here to try to work out who she is in real life.

beluga425 · 11/02/2018 00:57

Bloody hell! those Reddit boards are not very nice!

keralanau · 11/02/2018 00:58

No doxxing is a concrete Reddit rule and applies to all the subs.

paxillin · 11/02/2018 00:58

The older I get the more I realise people are irritating in general, @Dljlr. Irritating company is sometimes preferable to no company though.

beluga425 · 11/02/2018 00:59

WTF is doxxing?

TheHungryDonkey · 11/02/2018 00:59

It’s not nice that people unwittingly post personal things about their children in response to a troll that is wanking over it. That’s not harmless.

Battleax · 11/02/2018 01:00

Well that's the irony. They believe the poster to be a fantasist but have been using some of the information she's posted here to try to work out who she is in real life.

But how would you know otherwise? Confused

Battleax · 11/02/2018 01:01

No doxxing is a concrete Reddit rule and applies to all the subs.

Well there you are then.

Cup it's outing people's RL identities.

So it can't have happened on Reddit because it's banned across Reddit.

keralanau · 11/02/2018 01:07

They wouldn't know otherwise. They found someone, but we don't know it was the poster in question. That thread was hidden last Sunday.

So it can't have happened on Reddit because it's banned across Reddit.
They can hardly ban people attempting it, only if it's reported or the fact that certain posters are being targetted or harassed, which is another Reddit rule.

keralanau · 11/02/2018 01:10

They don't know for certain some posters are fantasists and should stick to reporting the actually harmful trolls.

Battleax · 11/02/2018 01:11

Nope, you've lost me.

Fantasists can't be traced to their RL from their fantasies. It doesn't compute.
