DH just asked if i ironed 0-3 babygrows. Then looked really shocked when i said no. He said his mum would!!!
I keep reminding him he didn't marry his mum....especially when hes ill (thats a different story!!) AIBU to be flabbergasted by the question in the first place.....then the response just topped it off.
Does anyone actually iron babygrows??? Is it just me??

I iron pretty much everything that can be ironed.
All DCs clothes (from newborn sized vests and babygros to now 18 month DS and 8 year old DD)
Bedsheets
Curtains
Tea towels

I used to iron OHs boxers but gave up on that one a while ago.

Sheets feel and look so much nicer on the bed when they’ve been ironed. Clothes look nicer. Baby looks less dishevelled.

My mum is the same and I’m sure that’s where I get it from. OH Mum used to get the iron out once a year befor the family holiday so the rest of her family didn’t judge the unironed clothes. Apparently that was also the only time OH got new clothes.

DuckAndPancakes · 10/02/2018 19:26

When I was pregnant with DD I washed and ironed everything in anticipation.
Then once a week or so I’d get all of her little clothes out and hold them against my bump and then fold them up neatly again.

NovemberWitch · 10/02/2018 19:28

I have no problem with you choosing to do that, but would you be critical and judge of someone who didn’t, if the clothes were clean and in reasonable condition?

swampytiggaa · 10/02/2018 19:37

I iron nothing. We do not look dishevelled.

Karigan1 · 10/02/2018 19:42

😂😂😂😂😂 i’d Have literally died laughing if my partner asked me that.

goose1964 · 10/02/2018 20:17

The my MiL irons everything, I think it's because she was ironing things before non-iron items were a thing and she never adapted

AmberTopaz · 10/02/2018 20:19

I don’t iron anything. DH’s work shirts get taken to the local ironing service and nothing else gets ironed. My MIL is a bit shocked by this. Ah well.

Allthewaves · 10/02/2018 20:50

Isn't the joy of small baby clothes is that you don't have to iron them but indo tumble everything

riceuten · 10/02/2018 21:02

Shirts and trousers, blouses form 90% of ironing.

Sheets, underwear, towels, blankets - no.

TT10677 · 10/02/2018 21:03

Hell no! Life's too short for ironing. Grin The only time anything gets ironed is when I'm off to a wedding or interview!

Charlie354 · 10/02/2018 21:45

Sounds like that was prompted by his mum to score points!!

GinIsIn · 10/02/2018 21:54

DS is 1. He has survived an entire year without wearing anything that’s been ironed Grin

I don’t iron anything. DH irons his own shirts, and I hang my Work dresses to dry on the hanger then hang them in the bathroom when I shower before wearing.

mumindoghouse · 11/02/2018 09:50

Isn’t your response “would she dear? How old fashioned “

Fluffyears · 11/02/2018 11:01

I never iron if I can avoid it. I have a lovely top that looks awful unless ironed....I never wear it. I iron if necessary only so haven’t ironed in months..my mother tits about it and says things like people must look at dp and think ‘can his wife not iron?’Confused most of my clothe don’t need ironed. My gran used to iron pants ‘what if you fall over with a skirt on and people see your creased pants?’ Confused is that really what folk notice, they’d have to be awfully close to see that!

Skittlesandbeer · 11/02/2018 11:07

Nothing made predominantly of elastic should be ironed!

Tell him that anyone who does iron them is so rich and anti-planet that they can afford to chuck them in a couple of months.

Your method allows the clothes to be used until outgrown, then passed on to at least two other babies.

Stick that in his pipe.

dotdotdotmustdash · 11/02/2018 11:10

My Grandad had one leg and had to wear a tight, stretchy cover over his stump, just below his knee.

Yes, my Granny ironed them.

NotAnotherEmma · 11/02/2018 11:11

Show me a person who irons babygrows and I'll show you a person who needs to get a life. 🤣

PaintingOwls · 11/02/2018 11:13

Tell him to carry on the family tradition himself then Hmm

shakingmyhead1 · 11/02/2018 11:43

i had to call my mum and ask where i kept my iron ( my mum and step dad helped us move into this house....... 2 years prior )

@kaytee87
That's a great idea! I never iron my clothes, but I may start straightening the very wrinkly bits after I've finished doing my hair!

Wintertime4 · 11/02/2018 15:45

My mum used to iron her husbands pants...

Hairgician · 11/02/2018 15:55

I iron as and when. I don't stockpile iron when washing is done. No point. Going into a cupboard anyway.

Luxanna · 11/02/2018 17:30

I had an iron, used it melt glue to aid flooring removal. That ruined it. That was 12 months ago. This thread has only just reminded me that it never got replaced. I have a love hate relationship with ironing, love smooth neatly folded, hate actually doing it, the cord catching on the cloth pisses me off an inordinate amount.

Op, make a cuppa, hand him the iron, sit down and say "off you go then".
See if he's keen on ironing like mummy when he's got to wield the damn thing.
