DH just asked if i ironed 0-3 babygrows. Then looked really shocked when i said no. He said his mum would!!!
I keep reminding him he didn't marry his mum....especially when hes ill (thats a different story!!) AIBU to be flabbergasted by the question in the first place.....then the response just topped it off.
Does anyone actually iron babygrows??? Is it just me??

I'm due next week, after drying the baby stuff it did very briefly cross my mind if I should iron anything, but I folded them and they are fine. Life is too short!

upsideup · 09/02/2018 19:28

I've never ironed babygrows by I am shocked that people don't iron their sheets or pillow cases! It makes so much difference.

TurquoiseTranquility · 09/02/2018 19:29

The reason our mums and grans ironed baby stuff is because they didn't own washing machines. They hand-washed in tepid water, so ironing (or boiling) was a way of disinfecting poopy pants Grin
over time, this became a habit. My mum's house is a tip but she'll sit in the middle of all the mess and happily iron her knickers. Oh yes.

beckieperk · 09/02/2018 19:37

Lol NoProcedureFollowed
Sounds about right. Grin

When I was 36 weeks pregnant and just finished up work I washed and ironed all of ds newborn clothes. He's 18mo now and I haven't ironed anything of his since, if he has something with a collar I do it with my straighteners Blush

chocolateworshipper · 09/02/2018 19:39

MIL used to iron baby socks Hmm

My answer would have been "No, but you carry on love"

TurquoiseTranquility · 09/02/2018 19:42

(off on a tangent) BIL once ironed the creases out of my crinkle cotton floor-length skirt Shock so it lost shape and I'd need stilts to avoid treading on the hem. I spent months pressing the creases back in Confused Trust an IL with chores! Grin

LolitaLempicka · 09/02/2018 19:42

I once borrowed an iron from my neighbour, then (rudely) forgot all about it. They finally needed it and asked for it back 2 years later.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 09/02/2018 19:43

I take in ironing for some extra cash and people do still want everything ironed. I suppose it's because someone else is doing it Grin
I regularly get paid to iron
Bed sheets,
Tea towels,
Boxer shorts,
and yes all sorts of baby gros, even bibs and muslin squares!

I must admit, I rarely iron anything for my own family.

fireflame · 09/02/2018 19:53

You should have told him
The only thing I want to iron at the moment is the wrinkles in your face 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

luckylavender · 09/02/2018 19:59

I ironed them too. Doesn't seem at all weird.

purplepug · 09/02/2018 19:59

My ironing board was last out 5 years ago to iron a dress. That dress is still in the washing basket, never to be worn again. I do not iron anything. Ever.

MsHarry · 09/02/2018 20:17

Hand him the iron!

crackerjacket · 09/02/2018 20:22

MIL used to iron baby socks

^

Now that's life before the internet

Bluntness100 · 09/02/2018 20:23

Ah, he thinks you should be like his mum. That's not creepy at all.😱

I love Mumsnet... on one thread there are people who have the most insane household habits and on another... almost unanimous 'what the hell is an iron'.

800msprint · 09/02/2018 20:25

Ba ha ha ha

beluga425 · 09/02/2018 20:27

Does he iron 0-3 baby grows?

Orangecake123 · 09/02/2018 20:33

I can't actually remember the last time I used my iron...

Crushedgrapesworkforme · 09/02/2018 20:37

Hope he's learnt his lesson.... half the things people iron don't need if they hang it correctly when drying.. and ironing baby grow would make it hard and crisp on organic cotton.. or elasticated kit...

Ironing is a poor use of time .... I know some people iron sheets and socks, tea towels ??? .. but who really notices except the person who's laboured over it to iron it???

WaxOnFeckOff · 09/02/2018 20:40

I like the feel of ironed clothes and sheets though so why would I stop DH doing it? :o

Topseyt · 09/02/2018 20:47

I am happily taking after my own Mum. She is in her eighties now and never ironed anything. Neither do I.

I don't even remember where my iron is. The ironing board is folded up and gathering dust in a corner of the utility room, but I can't remember the last time it was graced by the iron.

NotAChristmasCakePop · 09/02/2018 21:07

My own mum would have done things like that. I hardly ever iron!

MissJaySays · 09/02/2018 21:11

'No, do you?'

Lemonnaise · 09/02/2018 21:17

I never ironed babygros. I don't iron duvets, towels or underwear either.
