DH just asked if i ironed 0-3 babygrows. Then looked really shocked when i said no. He said his mum would!!!
I keep reminding him he didn't marry his mum....especially when hes ill (thats a different story!!) AIBU to be flabbergasted by the question in the first place.....then the response just topped it off.
Does anyone actually iron babygrows??? Is it just me??

I iron 5 work shirts a week for DH. That’s it.
Never ironed baby grows. Did iron a few pretty cotton type dresses that dried crunched and creased but nope....your DH is BU.

Idratherhaveacupoftea · 09/02/2018 18:46

Oh dear, I iron.

RFM3 · 09/02/2018 18:46

I iron muslins purely because they look dreadful freshly washed so abit of straightening and they look half decent again albeit still needing the bin Grin

BertrandRussell · 09/02/2018 18:46

I had a flatmate who ironed bras.

It was in the 1970’s and my mum made me a silk shirt with loads of ruffles and frilly cuffs. She used to beg me to wear it so she could hand wash and iron it. I wonder what became of her?

MyKingdomForBrie · 09/02/2018 18:47

Would a condensing tumble be as good for making them crease free?? I haven’t got room for a vented one..

My mum irons bedsheets.. nearly as weird!

Annwithnoe · 09/02/2018 18:48

I practice my appalled-at-the-carbon-footprint face for these kind of conversations.
It starts out like this Shock and may end up like this Hmm if the offending iron-nazi hasn’t retreated hastily.
Having lived with law students in college, I can defend any position and claim the moral high ground swiftly and decisively with even the most slatternly habits Grin

AlpacaLypse · 09/02/2018 18:48

I occasionally ironed kid's stuff if it had been on the line to dry rather than the tumble drier and stuff wasn't 100% done. Just to force the last drops of moisture out of the seams, under the armpits etc. I reckoned it was more efficient and quicker for one or two school polo shirts than running the tumble. Although only if iron and board was already set up. Wasn't worth it if you had to hook the board out from the cupboard etc.

TheSassyAssassin · 09/02/2018 18:48

Only iron if something looks like it has been slept in for a week otherwise life is too short IMHO!

WaxOnFeckOff · 09/02/2018 18:51

My DH does all the ironing, he always ironed babygros and bibs and well, everything.

windchimesabotage · 09/02/2018 18:51

No I only iron things for special occasions. I have no idea why anyone bothers to iron young childrens clothes at all. They just destroy them in 5 mins!! I mean youd spend all day ironing if you ironed babygrows. You have to change them often enough with all the pooing and the sick up!! You can go thru ten a day. Your life would literally be changing the baby grows putting them in the washing machine and ironing the dry ones. Round and round forever. LIFE IS TOO SHORT FOR THAT.

Wintertime4 · 09/02/2018 18:52

YANBU - ask him to iron them.

I never iron any kids clothes unless it’s a special occasion.

Moonandstars84 · 09/02/2018 18:53

I did with number 1 and 2. By number 3 I have up ironing altogether.

dingdongdigeridoo · 09/02/2018 18:55

I-ron. What is this i-ron you speak of? Confused

I'm with you OP. I only iron stuff for special occasions, and even then I try to avoid it by using the tumble dryer. My DM spends 4-5 hours on a Sunday ironing hers, my DFs and DB (25!)s clothes, so I think I'm rebelling against that.

MissWilmottsGhost · 09/02/2018 18:55

I don't iron anything. Neither did my mum.

If DH wants anything ironed he knows to do it himself, even asking me to do it would be grounds for divorce, I can't imagine the response if he said "but my mum used to do it". Maybe I would twat him with the iron........no, that would require picking it up.

Ginnotginger · 09/02/2018 18:55

When DD was expecting she washed and ironed all the new baby clothes right down to the socks - both times. DGS2 is nearly 10 months old now and I don't she has touched the iron since.
Agree with pp if your DP wants ironed babygros he can bloody well iron them and I bet you have a few things of your own he can iron whilst he has the ironing board out Wink

Nquartz · 09/02/2018 18:57

I don't iron a thing! DH irons his work shirts, that's it in our house.

I know someone who irons everything, what a waste of time!

Maryann1975 · 09/02/2018 18:58

I think the fabric of the clothes I buy now is different to what it use to be. A lot of clothes now looks fine without being ironed whereas when I was a teenager everything did need ironing. I do have a dryer but don’t use it all the time, but a lot of stuff can get away without ironing now, maybe there’s more Lycra in clothes now I’m not sure what the difference is?

babybythesea · 09/02/2018 18:59

I never ironed them. Imagine how distressed you'd feel if it was one of those days when it was dirty before you'd even finished popping the buttons up the front.
But I am also one of the tribe who doesn't iron. My mum bought me an iron and an ironing board which stayed in the cupboard until she came to visit the next time. 4yo DD ran into the room as Mum was putting the ironing board up and said "Oh, Nana, are you going surfing?" My mother was horrified that she didn't even know what it was (but she does know what a surfboard is, which is far more important!).

Rihanna89 · 09/02/2018 19:02

Don't iron any baby clothes apart from a stupid shirt thing he wore to a wedding.

My MIL irons underwear and all sorts but think she's given up nagging me now, I'm too stubborn

jacobsgirl · 09/02/2018 19:02

Ironing is my least favourite chore by far I only do it if I need to

I'd be a bit flabbergasted too. If he wants it ironed he can do it lol

Appuskidu · 09/02/2018 19:04

Why did he think you should be ironing them and not him??

eggsandwich · 09/02/2018 19:06

Now I love ironing and yes I know I’m mental but I just love my steam generated iron but even I wouldn’t iron a babygro, maybe steam it, but never iron it. Grin

PoppyCherry · 09/02/2018 19:18

'No, of course not. Do you, dear?'

This.

Although it would backfire in our house as DH is the only person in our family who ever touches an iron...

tillytrotter1 · 09/02/2018 19:18

I iron sheets but I only have 100% cotton, can't bear anything else and they feel heavenly if they've been line dried then ironed, makes getting into bed a pleasure. My mother used to iron terry nappies, many moons ago.
When we were first married OH had a pair of wool mix trousers and from somewhere I recalled that wool should be ironed on the reverse so I ironed them inside out, lovely creases and all!

NoProcedureFollowed · 09/02/2018 19:18

BertrandRussell she had a son who married the op. Grin
