DH just asked if i ironed 0-3 babygrows. Then looked really shocked when i said no. He said his mum would!!!
I keep reminding him he didn't marry his mum....especially when hes ill (thats a different story!!) AIBU to be flabbergasted by the question in the first place.....then the response just topped it off.
Does anyone actually iron babygrows??? Is it just me??

Lol 😆, answer him with 'no I don't want to, do you?'

TheVanguardSix · 09/02/2018 18:23

Your DH is ridiculous!
Obviously no, I don't iron anything unless I must.

OutyMcOutface · 09/02/2018 18:23

Your MIL really needs a hobby I think.

KNain · 09/02/2018 18:23

I do. And vests.

I also iron socks, pants, tea towels and dish clothes.

I think it softens them up after the wash. And it makes them easier to fold and they fit in a smaller space in the drawer when they're pressed flat.

I do love ironing though.

Pearlsaringer · 09/02/2018 18:24

Say this
"You don't iron stretchy things, the heat ruins the elastic. Didn't your mother know that?"
Now roll your eyes.
Now duck.

SilverySurfer · 09/02/2018 18:24

My DM used to iron knickers Shock I put the iron in a cupboard 15 years ago when I retired and it hasn't been taken out since. Total waste of time.

Pennywhistle · 09/02/2018 18:27

I ironed babygrows.

But that’s me, it doesn’t mean you should.

If your DH wants them ironed presumably he knows where the iron is.

If my DH even used the words “but my mum did” I think I’d threaten to iron him.

Happily the only thing my MIL
does better than me is gardening and we pay someone to do that! Grin

BackBoiler · 09/02/2018 18:29

I did have a thing about ironing the baby's clothes. The drawers were always immaculate and the little items made me ENJOY doing laundry.

Now the PJs get all scrunched up in the drawers I am less inclined to do so and I tend to get fleece pjs for the little ones. I do iron their jeans and school uniforms though.

MaryShelley1818 · 09/02/2018 18:30

I don't iron anything!

I have a 9wk old baby and can't imagine having time to iron anything!!

diddl · 09/02/2018 18:30

Can't see the problem with him asking-unless it was just to compare you unfavourably to his mum!

Nanny0gg · 09/02/2018 18:31

I tumbled them so they came out soft and fluffy and crease free. (and I iron lots)

daffodildelight · 09/02/2018 18:32

He obviously couldn't tell they hadn't been ironed so therefore ironing them would be pointless as they would look that same either way.

Snowysky20009 · 09/02/2018 18:34

I didn't but dp did- every single one and every other item of clothing in the clean washing basket!

BrightonBollock · 09/02/2018 18:35

My tumble drier 'irons'..my mum in law irons her bedsheets and knickersConfused

cjferg · 09/02/2018 18:36

What's an iron?

floriad · 09/02/2018 18:36

What a weird question.
He should to a bit more housework if he needs to ask something like this.

And especially for the remark about his mother doing it...

But button ups, pleated trousers do need to be ironed.

Blackteadrinker77 · 09/02/2018 18:37

Ah bless him.

Would he like to take them to his Mummy and bring them back done?

YearOfYouRemember · 09/02/2018 18:38

When I was pregnant and desperate to nest I ironed everything. Baby grows, muslins, vests. Only time they ever got ironed but it made me happy for a couple of hours.

Do people who say, "what's an iron?" think they are original and funny?

BertrandRussell · 09/02/2018 18:39

I recently went to help a friend after a hideous labour and birth. Asked what she wanted me to do and was handed a basket of babygros to iron. Her house was a tip, there was no food in, but ironing the babygros was her priority! Grin

NotReadyToMove · 09/02/2018 18:40

I’m afraid my answer would be that
1- if he didn’t know I wasn’t ironing said babygrow, the ironing can’t make such a huge difference
2- if he wants the babygrows the be ironed, he will have to do the ironing. Otherwise, it would be safer for him to keep quiet.

Someoneasdumbasthis · 09/02/2018 18:40

Does he think irons are operated by vagina??

This. Brilliant.

category12 · 09/02/2018 18:41

Hand him the iron.

SirGawain · 09/02/2018 18:42

My mother used to iron everything, but neither I or Lady Gawain would dream of ironing underwear, socks or most bedding.
