Apparently.

But, I must say, their language isn't very inclusive, is it now?

Hmm

How can they win? They observed and made adaptions based on them.

Women aren't forced to buy the new version.

AngelsSins · 05/02/2018 16:29

The regular crisps have been known to frighten women with their loud crunching

Eugh, patronising, generalising crap.

TenancyTroublesAgain · 05/02/2018 16:31

I may be wrong but this seems fucking stupid?

Do they really think it's only men who eat their crisps? Fucking hell, talk about delusional.

BulletFox · 05/02/2018 16:35

They'd hate me, I'd get stuck into spaghetti with happy abandon on a first date, am oblivious to crunching, like a bit of finger licking and wouldn't feel embarassed about getting sauce stuck on my cheek.

I was mildly embarassed about getting honey on my coat yesterday however so do have standards.

minionsrule · 05/02/2018 16:35

Well that is as patronising as hell Angry

LemonShark · 05/02/2018 16:36

I listened to a freakonomics podcast the other day actually with the CEO of Pepsi, and she talked at length about all the market research they do and how they discovered that men and women eat crisps very differently. She said that they found men don't mind the crunch being loud, they are happy to eat on the move walking along the street, and they usually tip the packet into their mouth when it's almost empty for the last few bits. Apparently women prefer a more quiet sounding crisp, and like smaller packets to fit in their bags to take somewhere instead of grabbing from a shop and eating instantly. So they were researching into a new line that was more in line with the characteristics women preferred seeing as the majority of their customer base for their regular crisps seemed to be men.

It's an interesting topic. They wouldn't have gone to the expense of making a new line if they didn't have reason to believe they were filling a gap in the market and that it'd sell.

WonderLime · 05/02/2018 16:37

I would be very surprised if this is ng a publicity stunt to get people talking about Doritos.

I’m just waiting for the #IEatMineLikeMen or some other bullshit hashtag which will start trending in response.

Dorito’s will increase revenue and brand imagine by being openly sexist. Best thing is to not buy into anything around it at all and treat it as a non-product.

LemonShark · 05/02/2018 16:37

Omg haha I should have read the entire link before posting, looks like that article is literally based on the podcast I listened to, every last bit. Same CEO etc. It's not really offering anything other than a transcript of the podcast!

WonderLime · 05/02/2018 16:38

Brand image*

Bluelonerose · 05/02/2018 16:38

So smaller bags for us ladies. Bet they'll be same price as regular bag Hmm

jaseyraex · 05/02/2018 16:40

Missing the point completely but I could murder a bag of Doritos. Nice, loud, crunchy, bright orange ones Grin

Anyway, surely no one will actually buy into this ridiculous patronising rubbish?

Oysterbabe · 05/02/2018 16:45

My DH certainly eats crisps at 5000 decibels.

LaurieMarlow · 05/02/2018 16:48

Do they really think it's only men who eat their crisps? Fucking hell, talk about delusional.

They will have tonnes and tonnes of data on this issue. They'll have researched this to buggery before investing in a new line. The evidence clearly suggests they have a market for this product.

That's not a guarantee of success, by any means, but they're not just taking a stab in the dark, that would be ridiculous.

Rebeccaslicker · 05/02/2018 16:52

How long have/did Yorkie advertise/d their chocolate bars on the basis of "not for girls", complete with graphic of a lady with a strikethrough?! I always found that rather odd.

(Someone should have told DF that it actually meant "not for small children of either sex", as you've never seen a mess like the one my (blissfully happy) 2 year old nephew made when DF gave him a yorkie chunk...!)

mirime · 05/02/2018 16:55

Meh. I like a good crunchy crisp. What's the point of them if they don't have a satisfying crunch? And I'll lick my fingers as well.

Doritos are horrible though - except for the hint of lime flavour and I suspect they add something addictive to them to make them so moreish.

MissionItsPossible · 05/02/2018 16:55

Who gets annoyed by the loud crunching of THEIR OWN CRISPS? It's other people crunching theirs loudly that's annoying. So that is pointless.

Is that a parody site? I sincerely doubt that anyone who doesn't have a phobia wasn't "frightened of crisps" Hmm

BertieBotts · 05/02/2018 16:56

Um, isn't this a parody site?

Dobby1sAFreeElf · 05/02/2018 16:57

What I take from that is clearly I am not a lady.

Rebeccaslicker · 05/02/2018 17:00

Don't think so, Bertie - plus it's in all the mainstream papers too!

LemonShark · 05/02/2018 17:00

Oh yeah that was another thing: most men lick the residue from their fingers and most women don't. So the new crisps will have less residue. Suits me as people licking their fingers while eating makes me gag.

SoupDragon · 05/02/2018 17:00

Bertie it’s in the Times too. www.thetimes.co.uk/article/doritos-to-bring-lady-friendly-crisps-to-uk-3x65r9qsw

Rebeccaslicker · 05/02/2018 17:01

Now if you like crunchy crisps, Doritos can sod off - these bad boys are where it's really at. 4 times thicker than other contenders and so tasty!
