AIBU the elephant pile in the room

Recently our family has grown from 4 to 5. DD was a surprise, we also have DS1 and DS2 plus I have a male DP so the washing And ironing pile resembles an elephant it's soooo big. It doesn't matter what I do it never goes away it's always just there.
In my mother's house growing up she ironed everything, bedsheets even (seriously!), so I have always felt I should do the same, but I am not as organised as she is. So I guess my question is AIBU to just declare unless absolutely necessary, ironing just isn't happening any more?

My mum irons everything. I iron nothing. I even threw away my ironing board. Go for it!

Not U at all. I've got 5dc & a dh, everything gets folded as soon as it comes off the line or out the tumble. It's very rare I need to iron. I probably only NEED to iron 1 or 2 items a month if that. It saves so much time.

What's "ironing"?

Don't do it unless you have to. Hang things up after washing, straighten while damp. Most fabrics won't be too creased. Forget about sheets, honey!!

I don’t iron anything except a once every few months run over my work dresses (should be non iron but aren’t quite) and DH irons his shirt before weddings and funerals...!

My mum irons everything, I only iron clothing (not underwear), lots of my friends iron nothing or nothing but shirts/blouses. Really you are free to pick and choose.

if dp need ironed clothe he can do it himself.
I don't know where my iron is. I hang up clothes as smooth as possible and buy fabrics that don't crease easily (jersey type tops for example)

I was really impressed a while ago when my 4yo commented on a toy ironing board when we were at someone's house. He knew what it was called & what one did with it - no idea where he learnt that from!

I iron absolutely nothing, unless it's for a formal event. Most stuff gets folded out of the dryer, anything more prone to creasing gets dried hanging on a hanger. Dp will iron a shirt if he needs one (very rare) but other than that our iron gets terribly bored I suspect.

I used to iron everything (as my mum does) down to and including tea towels. When DH moved in about 13 years ago I complained about the added ironing and he asked me why I was ironing. I said "clothes look and feel better when ironed" and he asked me how I knew if I never wore them un-ironed. I tried not ironing. Careful use of the tumble drier, airer and radiators means my clothes are rarely creased and I now only iron the very occasional special occasion item. I actually don't remember getting the iron out last.

Stop ironing, lose the guilt and enjoy 4 hours of your life back!

I iron nothing unless absolutely completely necessary. DH irons his shirts for work alright but thats mainly all that ever gets ironed. Life is too short

I don't iron anything at all. If I had to I would have a go at my shirts but otherwise no. No ironing here. We haven't been thrown out of any culture venue etc. for looking slovenly so I guess we look alright.

Oh thank god it's not just me. That's it! I declare this place a non ironing zone (baring school uniforms possibly). Now to just deal with my mother who will notice instantly and will ask why her DG look like 'Oliver Twist' 😂

I think some clothes need ironing. Dh and DC's school shirts for example and a few other bits.

Just iron the necessary stuff and fold and put away everything else.

I always manage to burn clothes when I iron anyway so best I don't bother. (probably because i bought tge cheapest iron available because I knew it would rarely get used).

Only school uniforms and any special event clothes see an iron in this house. The rest get folded if they are not retrieved direct from the clothes horse first.

I don't even do the school uniforms, they always come out pretty good from the dryer

To be fair DP was a soldier so he's well versed in the iron and when not working he will set to work on the Elephant, but before we met he never ironed anything but his uniform and now he doesn't wear one so I don't think the removal of the ironing will bother him at all, he just did it because I wanted it doing. The rod I made for myself all these years!

The only things I iron are DD's Hama bead creations! If it weren't for them could get rid of the iron completely.

I rarely iron.
Give things a snap-shake when they come out of washing machine and half the creases are gone.
I know it's a waste of energy but I tumble dry a lot and none of it needs to be ironed. I just take it out ASAP and either hang or fold it.

Iron used for weddings and funerals here. And the DC sometimes iron their scout neckers (because somebody else told them to). Give up on the crazy work for work’s sake and just spend a little time folding the laundry. And how lovely to have a surprise DD to compliment the DSs

Hurrah, screw the ironing!

We have 3 kids it's really not worth wasting time on. Especially when they get to the point where they are taking more responsibility and putting their own clothes away, laundry in the basket etc... They do it terribly. It's depressing if you have spent a lot of time on laundry!
