Just that really.

FFS. If it's so damn easy for everyone to stop smoking without nicotine replacement, there wouldn't be NHS clinics trying to help people...mainly because hardly any of us would still be smoking.

The smug little "I went Allan Carr/cold turkey" remarks are seriously irritating. So what if you did? OP has asked about vaping, so if you have nothing to say about that, move along Hmm

TabbyMack · 29/01/2018 19:50

I like smoking, Reddington. You don't think for me....or anyone else.

mrspitt · 29/01/2018 20:02

Yes!!!
My DP was a smoker for 40 years, not heavy 10-15 a day. Decided to buy a vape for his birthday last year and apart from a few cigarettes in the first week or two he has stopped smoking.
Honestly never thought he would, he always said he could never stop/give up and although it's not entirely stopping in a sense he's managed it. He now even comments about how much smoke smells, makes me laugh! But yes of course you can.
Just do it 😉

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 29/01/2018 20:05

I loved smoking was kind of reluctant to give up but I knew it was expensive and killing me. I stopped 4 months ago on the 25th. I have used various vapes from the supermarket ones to the big fancied ones and prefer something in between the pen ones and the large stronger ones.

I set myself a date a few weeks in the future I had a weekend away coming up and decided to get through that and quit on the Monday. Haven’t looked back and am so chuffed I did it. There was a few pangs over the festive period but got through it.

DumbleDee · 29/01/2018 20:11

I did but mine was 30 to 40 a day. Not had a cigarette for 5 years

DumbleDee · 29/01/2018 20:12

I recommend VIP

NoqontroI · 29/01/2018 20:22

Lol Reddington, I've read the Alan Carr or whatever his name is too. Even stopped for a bit. 9 months actually. But the truth is, I do actually like smoking. So, speak for yourself. Not for me or anyone else. Very dull of you.

ILoveToLaugh · 29/01/2018 20:32

OP, yes you can! I did it and have never looked back. I don't miss it at all and wish I'd done it earlier. For me the key was finding a really good vape shop who can help you through the mind boggling choices between the different equipment and liquids. Good luck!

ILoveToLaugh · 29/01/2018 20:40

Oh and three years fag free! Also, I've just looked up the nhs cost calculator and the brand I smoked would now cost me £77 per week Shock. I spend a tenner on three bottles of vape liquid which will last a week/ten days.

Sharper91 · 29/01/2018 20:43

I like a cig or 5 too. Vaping is all a bit new for me.

fairylightsdown · 29/01/2018 22:22

Perfect timing for this thread :) I'm planning on going to a vape shop this weekend. My breathing is pretty bad and I only smoke 10 a day :(

Guardsman18 · 30/01/2018 08:58

Are you not getting on with vaping Sharper?

@fairylights - maybe we could have a support thread?!

BulletFox · 30/01/2018 09:00

Guards have you bought a vape yet?

DotCottonDotCom · 30/01/2018 09:06

Personally I think you can do it 100% but there is ways of giving up totally.

I do think the long way of doing it is investing in a big vape tank and weaning off it but most of the people I’ve seen doing that have never kicked the “habit” and have got stuck on the tank now. If that’s the only option then it’s better than cigs of course!

I do find if vaping if going to be used as a bridge to absolutely nothing, then a small inexpensive vape pen is the way to go.

I just find the more people invest in vaping the longer they do it for.

HungerOfThePine · 30/01/2018 09:32

Go to a non chain vape shop op, they are happy to let you try different tester vapes and they use hyenic tips so you srent sharing mouth pieces. Also let you try different flavours of vape and will guide you for what strengths you might need.

It definitely can be done I never used to smoke for yrs then in a bout of stress I turned to smoking.
It depressed me and was so expensive.
I would like to quit vapes too but not for any particular reason.
If I smoke a cigarette now it's not pleasant and can only manage a few puffs before stubbing it out.

Guardsman18 · 30/01/2018 10:33

@BulletFox - I have a vype pen which is charging as I type. I also have a VIP electronic cig but need a new charger for it

For all those buying the little bottles of liquid, can I also recommend mixing your own?

It's very straightforward, much cheaper and means you can be even more sure exactly what's in your vape Smile

NoqontroI · 30/01/2018 13:27

How do you mix your own? I did look in to it once but it all seemed really complicated. Although I'm sure it isn't really. What do you need? And what do you do?

AHungryMum · 30/01/2018 13:37

No, you are not being unreasonable. Yes, you can do it.
Yes you SHOULD do it for your long term health, financial benefits and loads of other reasons.

Good luck to you and when you've given up smoking be sure to treat yourself once in a while with the money you are saving! Smile

Korez · 30/01/2018 13:47

I gave up smoking and am very happy with a £20 Blue set (from Sainsbury's) and menthol liquid... a new top bit required every few months but otherwise very cheap to run and discreet...

my OH has a massive choo-choo train vape... and it's horrid... bellows out clouds of sweet fruity smells... I detest it... but prefer that than the smoke...

Vaping can cause cancer too. But it’s your call.

NotACleverName · 30/01/2018 13:55

No it sodding doesn't, Rose. Jesus Christ, read the thread. It may raise the cancer and heart disease risk, but it's still safer than smoking.

Anatidae · 30/01/2018 13:58

Actual Scientist here...

Safety wise:

Is vaping safe? Probably not.
Is it much less harmful than smoking? Yes, absolutely.

So while I would never encourage someone who didn’t smoke to take up vaping, I’d encourage any and all smokers to switch to vaping as a means of harm reduction if they fee they can’t quit. Obviously quitting totally is the best thing. But vaping is a harm reduction measure.

There’s recent research out that shows that even one fag a day is almost as bad as 10-20 for cardiac/stroke risks. Smoking is the single worst thing you can do to yourself health wise - half of all smokers die of it directly, and a big chunk of the rest are killed or harmed by causes related to/exacerbated by it. But you know that.

Definitely switch to vaping if you’re not minded to quit totally. Good luck

SleepIsForTheWeek · 30/01/2018 14:01

I've just got an Aspire Start Kit from Vape Hut and I'm amazed! I still have the occasional cig but am down from 20 a day to about 3. For some reason the first of the day has to be a cig and not a vape. Good luck OP Grin
