Just that really.

Guardsman - just one little bit of inspiration for you - my Dad, who is 90 and a lifelong smoker, switched to e-cigs (the 10 Motives ones, he can't cope with a proper vape) when he was in hospital for a couple of months last September/October - and he's not looked back :) if he can do it after the length of time he's been smoking (and he was on cigars!), then I'm sure you can - good luck!

grannycake · 29/01/2018 15:49

I'm ashamed to admit I smoked between 30 and 40 a day until 5 years ago. I still vape but much lower strength now. You can definitely do it - I smoked for 40 years and thought I would never be able to give up

FancyNewBeesly · 29/01/2018 15:53

Have you tried vaping before? It doesn't really feel like smoking. When I managed to quit, I had ordered a vape and decided to stop when I ran out of fags. I was seriously addicted but went cold turkey. I lasted about 36 hours, then my vape arrived and I started using it. At that point it was enough like smoking to satisfy me and I managed to stay completelycigarette free for a year, before a complete personal trauma sent me back to smoking (stupidest thing I've ever done).

Now vaping doesn't work for me as a smoking substitute because it feels nothing like smoking - I can't really explain it. I think I almost need that break between smoking and vaping to forget exactly what smoking is like!

I'd agree the Innokin itaste range and coolfire ranges are really good.

Guardsman18 · 29/01/2018 15:57

@FurryDog - inspiration indeed!

If you do start vaping can I beg you to please not vape in the street and expose passers by to your fumes? There are a number of vipers who hang out on our high street making it really unpleasant for those of us who don’t want to either smoke or vape.

I’m sure you won’t do this but the huge devices used by some produce a massive cloud of chemicals to be inhaled by everyone around including babies in prams.

Guardsman18 · 29/01/2018 16:00

Matilda, that did make me laugh. I don't smoke in the street so am hardly likely to vape!

Wouldn't I be a vaper not a viper?

The thing to remember with vaping is that it delivers nicotine very slowly compared to cigarettes so you might find you use it frequently.
I use a BLU which is only 13.99 from co OP
Good luck

MyMarmitePurrs · 29/01/2018 16:07

I used to smoke 20 a day - then 3 yrs ago realised I couldn't justify not being able to spend £50 on a pair of trainers for my daughter when some weeks I was spending that on fags ! I switched to an electronic cigarette and over halved my weekly outgoings on the habit - and haven't touch a "real" cigarette since - so yes it is possible - go for it - and they don't smell!! When I smell someone who's just had a cigarette I'm horrified to think that I used to smell like that !!!

MatildaTheCat · 29/01/2018 16:11

Haha, autocorrect classic. I’m the viper, you are the vaper Smile

reddington · 29/01/2018 17:05

But you’re not giving up anything, merely changing the way you get your fix. Yes, it’s probably better for you but you’re still an addict. I stopped smoking (20-40 B&H) over 10 years ago using the Alan Carr method. Was incredibly easy, once you understand why you smoke and why you started in the first place you’ll become a non-smoker pretty quickly. The physical addiction is easy to kick. Every single one of my friends used the same method and none have started again. Worth a £5 investment!

TabbyMack · 29/01/2018 17:12

100% yes, i just did & if I can, anyone can.

I was quite a heavy smoker for many years but have been having a few skint weeks so picked up an electronic cig that I bought (with good intentions) a few months ago.

I haven't had a real cigarette since. And I am certain I never will.

Do it.

TabbyMack · 29/01/2018 17:16

Reddington

Being addicted to nicotine is no more significant than being addicted to caffeine...and does as little harm as that does.

People smoke for the nicotine but die from the tar. That's why vaping is so much better.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/01/2018 17:18

Tell me I can do this

Of course you can Smile I smoked a lot and only got my vape because I was going to be in a venue for two weeks where smoking was barely allowed. The vape was only supposed to be for that period, but in fact I never smoked again

The main tip I'd offer, if you get one, is to use only that rather than swapping and changing between ciggies and vapes ... it will seem a little odd at first, but IME it really is the best way

SaucyJack · 29/01/2018 17:19

Yes, you can. I did, and do have many many many others.

I don't miss smoking at all. I love vaping so much I don't really feel like an ex-smoker.

Definitely invest in a decent vape from the off tho. I tried (and failed) to switch a few times using the crappy little pens.

Pinkbendyman · 29/01/2018 17:22

I switched from 20 a day to vaping over 14 months ago! I've saved SO much money too Grin

GrumpyOldMare · 29/01/2018 17:23

I was a 40-60 a day smoker 5 years ago. I now vape and don't smoke. If I can do it,anyone can.
Much nicer and I don't smell like an old ashtray,my health has improved too.

exaustedofevwrythingbutgoing · 29/01/2018 17:26

I did it but to be honest I gave up even the vape shortly after.... I am clean of smoking for about 3 years now. Best decision ever and no more stinky smell on my clothes and around my children :)

You can do it ! Try the vape !

andypandy55 · 29/01/2018 17:29

Yes you can. I tried several times to give up. I managed to in January 2010. Anyone who calls vaping smoking is ignorant because vapour isn't smoke - it's well vape Use a reputable dealer, I use TECC or Totally Wicked. (internet) Go for the strength of juice that satisfies you, it's all good fun. Gradually cut down on the nicotine strength in your juice. Yes, it upsets people but so do those who drive their kids to school in their 4 x4s and pollute the whole street! Your little vape stick won't do that!

ItWentInMyEye · 29/01/2018 17:53

You can! My DP stopped cigarettes a year ago thanks to vaping and is now using the 2mg liquid, he's weaned his way down to the lowest. Good luck SmileThanks

LeSquigh · 29/01/2018 18:06

Yes you can, I did. I went from 20 (strong) cigarettes a day to vaping and only had one gag in the time since I stopped smoking them when my battery run out. The smell and taste was enough to convince me I didn’t ever want to smoke again. I LOVED smoking. If I can do it, anyone can. I agree strongly with getting a decent set up though. Go to a proper vape shop and have a look. I’ve had a couple of different ones and the one I have now cost me about £60 total from Amazon.

LeSquigh · 29/01/2018 18:07

Fag not gag. Obviously Smile

reddington · 29/01/2018 18:16

Being addicted to nicotine is no more significant than being addicted to caffeine...and does as little harm as that does.

But why would you want to be addicted to anything if you didn’t need to be? There’s no benefit from the nicotine so what’s the point?

NoqontroI · 29/01/2018 18:29

Personal preference Reddington. Personally I like smoking and I like the hit of nicotine. So vaping is a better way of doing that. I don't plan to ever give up. Because I like it. I don't plan to give up coffee either.

Guardsman18 · 29/01/2018 18:31

Do I get any points for not drinking coffee?!!

Do you drink tea Gaurdsman?
