AIBU Trollhunting is ruining AIBU

I understand troll hunting if the OP is giving dangerous advice. However, increasingly every single poster is being grilled by troll hunters about every aspect of their post. It makes a thread hard to follow and really boring to read.

I don't understand why the troll hunters do it, there is an easy to use report button. I have read several threads in the last week where the OP was subjected to constant snide comments about the veracity of their post. I think if these troll hunters persist then people won't want to post at all.

it was 'twit like cheerleaders' actually.

HTH.

Plumes · 27/01/2018 18:48

A twit is a foolish person who still has time to turn back before they reach the dead end that is Thick.

And if we're focusing on phrases used may I draw your attention to 'misogynistic twat'. Don't you see anything ironic about the use of the word twat in that context?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 27/01/2018 18:52

I think 'twits' is a very good description...

No my the same as thick because it doesn’t mean thick.

Coconutspongexo · 27/01/2018 19:21

No not* don’t know what happened there

CoteDAzur · 27/01/2018 23:23

Janey - Re " 'No, not MNHQ. It was titled Mumsnet Complaints Department'
Ah yes sorry. Yes that does make a massive difference Confused "

Bless. You really are confused rather often, aren't you? Never fear, your friend Cote is here to explain it all Smile

There is indeed a difference between calling the photo of a cockroach in a yellow tie sitting at a desk "MNHQ" (a group of actual people) or calling it "Mumsnet Complaints Department" (a place that doesn't exist) If it were titled "MNHQ" it could be offensive or even considered insulting. As it is now, it is very clearly a joke.

Stratters could have easily called that photo MNHQ. Calling it Mumsnet Complaints Department was intentional.

Don't be sad you didn't get it, though. It was probably a bit too subtle for many people. I don't think Justine got it, either.

I agree with Cote

The whole C&D thing was a poorly handled clusterfuck and the Milton saga was no better.

And the people treating nonsense made up threads as if their sides are splitting are bum clenchingly awful. I get the fun of being on an evolving thread which can sudddnly make you feel a camaraderie with your fellow posters but really, a bit of sense shouldn’t be too much to ask

ShastaTrinity · 28/01/2018 09:41

There's a current thread on the forum which perfectly illustrate the problem of troll hunting:
OP: I have this and that issue ( give you a clue, it's financial )
Posters: it's not true, because it's not possible.
Reply: of course it's possible so maybe it's true, maybe it's not but the very good advice who would apply to the OP and other posters is hidden among posts derailing the thread because some posters have decided that if it doesn't apply to them, it's not true.

"Cote. TLDR. Whatever."

That's OK, Janey Smile There will come a time when you can read longer paragraphs.

Until then, let me know if you want it explained once again, in shorter sentences and with a simpler vocabulary.

Caprinihahahaha · 28/01/2018 09:52

The thing for me is that MNerS fight amongst themselves about whether trolls or troll hunters are worse but actually trolls could be reduced if MN wanted to but it’s not a bad thing for them
Troll threads attract traffic. They get publicity in the tabloids. They promoted penis beaker and promote anything that is the equivalent of click bait.
So it’s part of the set up now.
Mn is now a site where people read and react to the nonsense equally but it’s part of the set up here.
Trolls are rife and enjoyed. Troll hunters are fighting what is a lost cause

Tru Capri.

Trueheart1 · 28/01/2018 11:05

There seem to be a lot of troll hunters on this thread, congratulating each other and ignoring people who say that they want them to stop.

OP posts:
Caprinihahahaha · 28/01/2018 11:18

If it’s any help I have ever troll hunted in my life. I have probably three or four times posted that I thought something was bullocks but I’ve never advance searched or posted that I think something is dodgy

I think it’s posdible to think that trolls rather than troll hunters are the bigger problem without actually being a troll hunter

I just get bored of scrolling through active convos going
Troll
Made up
Totally made up
Period troll
Made up scenario
Made up scenario with diagram
Troll
Begging troll

Interesting or funny non made up threads are the exception rather than the norm now which is s shame
The threads about normal stuff which became funny are hard to find as posters feel the need to ramp everything up to get attention

But times change so it is what it is

Abracadabraapileofbollocks · 28/01/2018 11:19

They wish to appear terribly clever.
They refuse to believe an OP because their world view is very narrow and sheltered.

Trueheart1 · 28/01/2018 11:23

There is currently a thread where someone said their friends bitched at them for not buying food from the kids menu for their child. Every other comment is trying to call her out as a troll and refusing to believe that her friends bitched at her. It is getting ridiculous.

OP posts:
Trueheart1 · 28/01/2018 11:24

Abra I think you are right.
