Hubby and I have a few hours free in london tomorrow - we are over from Northern Ireland and have a few hours to kill!

we'll be in SE6 but have a rail pass and can travel!

I'd go to Spitalfields and have a mooch in the shops and a cocktail

... I'm going to Belfast soon. Any tips ?

I would try a restaurant that is owned by a relative of a friend but never tried!!

National Gallery or National Portrait Gallery, both Trafalgar Square.

I'd find a good local foodie pub on Tripadvisor.

I would go to an art gallery. I can't go as I have dcs who'd be bored.

... or St Pauls, then wobbly bridge, Tate Modern, walk along South Bank

There's a guard change tomorrow at 11am. Plenty of walking tours available if you Google and fancy a bit of info.

I like to visit small quirky museums... The old operating theatre at London Bridge is good. Or just have a wonder along the Southbank over Tower Bridge and into St Katherines docks.

If you want something not far from SE6, try the Horniman Museum in Forest Hill. Not well-known but wonderfully quirky!

@NotAgainYoda Yay Belfast! 😍 For big 'experience' things, the Titanic museum really is pretty amazing, and The Ulster Museum up in Botanic is really good - plus loads of lovely spots for lunch there. If you have time and get good weather head to the North Coast and do Carrick-a-Rede / the Dark Hedges / Giant's Causeway / Bushmills Inn / Gortmore viewing point (my favourite place on earth).

Have a night out in the Cathedral Quarter - Duke of Yorks, The Spaniard, Muriel's, The Dirty Onion, The John Hewitt - all amazing. And if you're more central, pop in to The Crown Bar and Fibber McGee's - a bit more touristy but still lovely. All food in Belfast is amazing - try Deane's for something posh, Made in Belfast or Home for mid-price but delicious and pretty much every café you see will do a great fry (I love Bob & Bert's up in Stranmillis). You could do a Belfast food tour, they're meant to be great. St George's Market is a good morning activity.

Apparently the black cab tours are great - I've not done one myself but I hear they're really interesting and give a good fairly unbiased history of the Troubles if you're into that sort of thing.

Another good option for your location would be Greenwich - there's the Observatory, the Maritime Museum, various shops and markets at weekends (I haven't been in the week) and you can also get boats from there to Tower Hill and Westminster, though that might be pushing it with just a couple of hours.

Start at the globe theatre/Tate and then walk along the southbank, just lot to see and take in. A really enjoyable few hours...

My favourite place in London is the V & A Museum. Just the empty building would entice me to visit, it's such a beautiful building let alone everything in it. Might be a trek from SE6 though for 2 hours sadly.

Teahouse theatre is nice for lunch. Tate modern otherwise. I would avoid going too far. It can take ages.

@lauryloo With just a few hours I would walk from the London Eye down the South Bank to Tower Bridge. You'll see tons of great landmarks and it's a beautiful walk with lots of nice places to stop for a drink / shops / galleries etc. Personally I'd end up at Borough Market and try all the cheese, then get a coffee in Monmouth or nip into the Swan bar at the Globe for a (n overpriced) pint.
