From SE6, with two hours to kill Green?

Stickaforkinimdone · 23/01/2018 22:58

It's going to pour down all day tomorrow in London
SE6 you've got good links to London bridge and charing cross but I'd stay local personally and go to the Hornimann Museum

Stickaforkinimdone · 23/01/2018 22:59

Yeh don't go all the way into town just for a plate of overpriced mushrooms 🙄 seriously wasting your time

If you're in SE6 and actually have 'a few' hours I'd get on a train from Catford Bridge to London Bridge, lunch at Borough Market and then walk up the river from there, if it's nice weather. It's a nice walk, you see lots from the riverside and end up at the London Eye/County Hall, have a look at the Houses of Parliament then get the train back to Catford Bridge from Waterloo East.

SOUTHBANK SOUTHBANK SOUTHBANK

I've worked in London for 20 years and I still take my family there regularly.

20 min train from Catford to Blackfriars - wander the Southbank- bars, restaurants, Tate Modern or just walk east or west - the best views in London

Have fun

If I ever have a few hours to kill in London I always go to the National Gallery to visit my favourite paintings. V&A would be second choice, they have a Winnie the Pooh exhibition on atm Smile

MexicanBob · 23/01/2018 23:51

Spend it in the Harp pub by the National Portrait Gallery.

Grew up near Catford. Am assuming you are using public transport. There are two train stations next to each other. From Catford Bridge catch a train to London Bridge. There you can walk in 5 minutes to Borough Market and snack/restaurant/mooch around, go up to the cocktail bar in the Shard, walk in 5 minutes to the river and see Tower Bridge and HMS Belfast and all that. Plenty of trains back. Or stay on one more stop to Waterloo East and walk towards the South Bank, though it can be a bit functional during weekday daytime. Stay on one more stop - and this is still only a 20 minute journey - to Charing Cross, where you are a few minutes from the National Gallery and National Portrait Gallery.

The other station, adjacent, is just called Catford. Trains can take you to Blackfriars, which is about 10 mins from Tate Modern.

Greenwich is lovely but not so easy by public transport - south east London roads aren't pretty and it's two buses. There's no train, so it's 185 or 75 bus to Lewisham station then the DLR to Cutty Sark (not Greenwich, which is actually a bit out of the centre of Greenwich).

All this assumes Catford town centre...

It depends on what you mean by a few hours and at what time?Where are you going out from London?

NotAgainYoda · 24/01/2018 06:24

Only

2 hours

SE6

jay55 · 24/01/2018 07:24

Where do you need to be at the end of the two hours?

lauryloo · 24/01/2018 09:34

Thanks all

Miserable here so not sure what the plan is.

Picking up a new car and dealer wants us to hang around for a few hours until the finance is paid out. So no real set time. Once all sorted heading to cairnryan for the boat :)
