As above (at the risk of sounding tin foil hat) and if we're not, what the hell is going on in the world, what's causing it?

@EltonJohnSyrup
I did not hear that no, it is disappointing but not the least bit shocking, for a party which multiple members have been known to tweet anti-Semitic posts, without facing any serious reprimand. A stand-alone case would be bad enough, but compiled together the whole undertone of the Labour Party just reeks of anti-semitism. Their campaign slogan should have read “for the many- but not the jews”. I really think in a few hundred years, civilisations will be looking back wondering how on earth the world continued to be so anti-Semitic after the holocaust.

@makeourfortune I was thinking more of; the division of profits, the abolishment of unearned wages, & if you read his speeches you will certainly find similarities. Everything he did was under the guise of fighting the ‘oppressors’ (Jewish & British & French) its all about finding a big bad wolf to blame & fight when it comes to the far left isn’t it? So much so that 7% of the uk support ISIS and we know that the majority of that support isn’t coming from muslims but far left non-muslims. The Labour Party are far more manipulative and divisive than the conservatives.

Mogginthemog · 23/01/2018 00:32

I’m pushing 60 and there’s always been vile and worrying shit going on. My DM bought me the teddy bear I’d been admiring in the local toy shop because she was so sure we were all going to be engulfed by a mushroom cloud (Cuba Crisis) and she wanted me to die happy. DMs and DFs parents came to the uk from Lithuania to escape the pogroms.

During my lifetime there have been all manner of atrocities and nearly apocalypses, but here we are still. Now we have continual access to events as they unfold with the attendant horror and anxiety such knowledge brings.

Conspiracy theorywise i do strongly suspect Diana might have been bumped off but the majority seem pretty far fetched.

We have never been more worried about the NHS for a whole host of reasons. An ageing population, cuts to social care, cuts to staffing budgets, a huge rise in demands in many areas such as diabetes, alcohol related illness, obesity, issues with recruitment and retention for several reasons including a huge post-Brexit exodus of European staff and prospective applicants. Yep it’s very worrying but nothing to do with a new world order imo.

We are bloody lucky we can drink and wash using tap water without risking cholera, parasitic illnesses and other water borne nasties.

falmer, please do put your mind at rest: NLP is a load of hogwash, briefly fashionable amongst the gullible and light of brain and people who claim to be "life coaches" and that sort of thing.

Do have a look at the history of it - it was "invented" by a couple of oddball Californian cokehead computer geeks in the 1970s who were trying to sell it as a commercial product (one of whom, Richard Bandler, was a paranoiac nut, addicted to coke, who then shot and killed his girlfriend while high and then got off on a legal technicality). It has zero scientific credibility and basically is a bit of crackpot snake oil cod pseudo-psychology. Hope that reassures you!

Wayfarersonbaby · 23/01/2018 01:22

correction -- he "may have" shot and killed her - he was acquitted on an unusual form of defence/legal technicality that exists in the US Grin NLP have never been shown to have any credible scientific basis or genuine effect (and, if it did, why would the people who say they can do it mainly be found giving motivational seminars for trifling amounts of money...? Grin)

The desire to post lies at nearly 2 in the morning could be a sign of a troubled mind. ie: "ranting incoherently about chemtrails and Princess Di". Yet it was one question about Diana...21/01, 23.02 "what do people think about 9/11, Diana's death and similar theories?" That's not a rant. "Incoherent"..Posters answered my queries about chemtrails, so not incoherent. Middle of the night mh problem strawberries? Better get checked out.

falmer I’ve just left the Air Force, my DH left last year and is an airline pilot.
Trust me when I say, we aren’t brain washed and there’s nothing coming out of any planes to harm you.
What worries me most about this whole thread is your family friend in the Air Force who thinks he’s been brain washed and chemicals they use are affecting the population. He needs to get to his Doctor, and is he fit to serve? Genuine concern.

The Labour Party are far more manipulative and divisive than the conservatives

I think one of the foundations of any socialist philosophy is that we don't need a weird Big Bad Wolf - the few who enrich themselves at the expense of the many, and cause so much suffering doing it, are ourselves.

Self-centredness is part of the nature of existence. But we have prospered through working together. The wolf is in your mirror.

makeourfuture · 23/01/2018 06:02

Look, there is no moral failure in seeking security and comfort. We all want to be safe and warm and want safety and success for our loved ones.

This is our nature, there is no denying this. But we have to remember that, as we are all embedded in society, these very natural urges when taken to extremes, can hurt the system that allows for safety and happiness and security.

If any of us were dumped in the wild we would expire pretty quickly - we are a social species.

falang · 23/01/2018 06:09

No, we're not. And tap water in this country isn't risky.

specialsubject · 23/01/2018 09:56

Picked up on one of the latest topics here - that Iceland has had almost no babies born with down syndrome in the last few years. That is because the parents decided to abort.

Sorry, but that's choice for you. Not some evil Icelandic conspiracy, not even a matter of money, but of women ( and men) deciding that they don't want that life for themselves and their child. Not everyone will be as lucky as sally Phillips and her believer friends.

Snowdrop18 · 23/01/2018 11:01

OP I have a question

is it actually that you think anything is different - or you have realised that many things in life are worrying and you maybe didn't notice them before?

for me, I am a rational person but I'm having 2 problems at the moment

  1. the world is so full of crazy I'm struggling to see what is real and what isn't. Example - I cannot believe the level of corruption that is going on in my local council at the moment (!) so a bit of me is asking - do people do nothing because they don't know or they don't care? Has it always been this corrupt and we just didn't know because we couldn't do FoI requests etc?

  2. how is anyone supposed to understand things when so much of what does the rounds of the media is "satire" but could easily be what people actually think?

  3. is it easier to join the ranks of the conspiracy theorists because everything is bonkers so you might as well? And if I went to a meeting/talk held by the Fortean society, could I at least feel that for once no one will ask me stupid racial stereotype questions - an area where we've definitely gone backwards over the years - because they at least have something that resembles an open mind?

  4. does your brain fall out if your mind is too open?

I need a lie down.

ha! I am at a water safety conference today (lunch).
The additives are there to kill cryptosporidium, E. Coli & Listeria. If you want a well source to have the fun of catching those, then be my guest. Just don't share, please.
