To ask if you've had Pneumonia, how did you know it wasn't 'just a cough'

Had a cough since Tuesday, I've called in sick for the weekend. I'm not starting to feel any better.

I have a temp of 39.5 and my sputum is now brown, it's really hard to cough up anything but it's always there. Lots of vomiting caused by the coughing, I feel bloody awful.

Drs on Thursday said it was viral but I'm not so sure now, I feel like I have the flu, I also have a uti which I'm on antibiotics for but they won't treat a chest infection.

Is it time to go back to OOH tomorrow? Or tonight? I all of a sudden feel really unwell. I'll have to wake DH up to take me but I don't feel like this is just a cough any more

Oh how wonderful! I’m so pleased for you!

Hooray!

That's just wonderful news! Grin Only just found your thread an hour ago and I would have been so worried about you, had I not just read your update! wooo-hoooo!

Do take it easy! There is absolutely no rush to get back to life. I was in rather a similiar situation (incl ttc) and rushing back to everything (I wasn't a youngster like you!) made it much worse and impacted on my long term health. So learn from my foolish mistakes! Wink

Wishing you, you DH and your Dear Dog a restful, peaceful week. Flowers

Wow, well done you!

Crikey you've really gone through the mill Shock.

There's lots of things to get angry about here, disgusting HCA topmost and getting so ill in the first place as well (though only the universe to blame for that one I guess), but the thing that has made me most cross is the absolute fuckwits who pop up on threads like these saying 'if you were that ill you wouldn't be posting on mumsnet.' I wish mn would just delete any post that said that, it's so dangerous - if this thread shows anything it's that you can be literally at death's door and still able to post on mumsnet!!!

I wish you a speedy recovery and many boxed sets, cake and tea while you regain strength!

Christmastits · 20/02/2018 19:40

@frogsoup I'm hoping so much that Mumsnet don't email this thread round and it just gets 1 millions 'I had pneumonia and thought it was flu' Grin exactly like the sunburn thread that now just full of people saying go to A&E when he went on Sunday!

I'm feeling quite happy tonight :)

Hope you're doing well, OP!

CheshireChat · 23/07/2018 01:41

I really hope so as well as she was ill in February!

Was all ready to post basically the same thing as I said last time so at least I'm consistent.

Don't know if anything similar has been added earlier on but just wanted to say I very nearly died from pneumonia 15 years ago. I was completely healthy, I'd visited a new born in hospital the day before. I woke feeling groggy but did the school run. I came home and within an hour I felt incredibly poorly. I had a pain when I breathed and started vomiting. I'd never called a doctor out before but felt so ill I did later the same day, only to be told it was a stomach bug. I called them out again two days later to be told the same thing. The next day I called NHS direct and they said I'd had a diagnosis and wouldn't send anyone out. I collapsed unconscious a couple of hours later. I had no cough, cold or flu but would have died within hours if not rushed to hospital. Pneumonia can present in very different ways.

Thanks for bumping this thread, I remember it from awhile back. Amazing how many people were dismissed as flu when they had pneumonia!

Hope you're doing well, christmas Flowers
