My dear other half offered me some toast, or which I took one bite and refused to eat..... He had used margarine not butter.

He said I am a stuck up bitch. in a light hearted jokey manner

So would you decline toast made with Marg? Envy

If it isn't illegal @gillybeanz it blooming well should be!

hannahintheworks · 19/01/2018 23:04

Please help, I’m panicking now! We use a lurpac-esque spreadable butter from Lidl - is this Marge?!?!? ARE WE ALL GOING TO DIE?!? Please someone tell me this isn’t Marge!!!!

hannahintheworks · 19/01/2018 23:05

I thought Marge was the baking stuff... I thought we were safe!

TrinitySquirrel · 19/01/2018 23:05

The Norpak from Aldi is butter mixed with oil so maybe the Lidl one is the same.

peterpansbrother · 19/01/2018 23:07

Marge should be banned from all supermarkets ha ha. Only real butter on toast for me. Wouldn't say you were stuck up, I'd say honest

KurriKurri · 19/01/2018 23:08

Flora buttery would be Ok for me, or any kind of sunflower/olive oil spread.
But I don't especially like toast with nothing but grease on it, and if I have jam or marmite or marmalade etc. I don't use grease - why would you ?
So I'd have rejected the toast on the grounds of being greasy stuff with nothing tasty on it. Grin

gillybeanz · 19/01/2018 23:09

It is illegal and hasn't been on sale in the UK for a while now.
I'm sure I'm not making it up.
The spreads we have today aren't marg, including Flora from what I heard.

Will try and find some info, coz otherwise I'll think I'm imagining news stories. Grin

Weezol · 19/01/2018 23:09

MyRelationship same here re:Stork. Until about 15 years ago I was too skint to have butter, but now I will go without other things rather than return to the Dark Place (same about Yorkshire Tea).

ButchyRestingFace · 19/01/2018 23:13

I was raised on margarine (in the fridge, no less).

Butter never darkened our door.

I have carried on the marge tradition throughout my adult life.

Reading this thread feels like I’ve entered the twilight zone. 😥

petbear · 19/01/2018 23:15

Vomington vom. No fecking way would I eat shitty MARGE.

I would sooner have the toast dry.

Dagnabit · 19/01/2018 23:25

So hating marge is a thing? Who knew....?

Giggorata · 19/01/2018 23:27

Marge is total poo. The worst so called food ever.

ethelfleda · 19/01/2018 23:28

YANBU!! Marg is the devil's spread! Vile stuff. Only real butter will do.

DextroDependant · 19/01/2018 23:29

I feel vindicated in my toast refusal!

Whilst we are on the subject of food, the first time he cooked me asparagus he chipped the heads off and just cooked the stalks... He's a lost cause isn't he.

maddiemookins16mum · 19/01/2018 23:33

All margarine is the devil's own bile. It should be outlawed.
(My lovely DMIL buys Stork fgs, Stork. I haven't used Stork since Leslie Crowther did the adverts.
Disclaimer: she uses it for baking.

DorisDangleberry · 19/01/2018 23:33

Margarine is made from old car tyres boiled up in a big vat somewhere just outside Great Yarmouth. It is the product of Satan himself

InsomniacAnonymous · 19/01/2018 23:33

I don't understand how people can be so vehement over such trivia. I like butter on jacket potatoes, though usually eat them without, but on toast I'm happy with Flora Light. There's no need to get so furious.

expatinscotland · 19/01/2018 23:38

I'm lactose intolerant to it's Flora vegan spread all the way. With marmite.

DorisDangleberry · 19/01/2018 23:39

There's no need to get so furious.

Yes there is. If you tolerate marg, your children will be next

2018SoFarSoGreat · 19/01/2018 23:40

oh dear god people. Now I need go BACK to my MSG (Marg Survivor Group) sessions. Thanks. Just thanks.

Got to agree with TQ1. This calls for a big loud LTB

now I want toast. So sick of you lot!

DextroDependant · 19/01/2018 23:42

Doris I sang that Grin

Expat it often crosses my mind what I would miss more if I were Lactose intolerant, butter or cheese. If all I could have was flora I might give up bread altogether.

OP posts:
Weezol · 19/01/2018 23:42

Doris That made me do a snorty laugh.

JackmanAdmirer · 19/01/2018 23:44

Sorry if this is wrong but - isn't butter really unhealthy?

I use flora light.

DorisDangleberry · 19/01/2018 23:51

JackmanAdmirer

isn't butter really unhealthy?

Not as unhealthy as something made from boiled up car tyres. In a factory in Great Yarmouth.

Tors33 · 19/01/2018 23:51

What's the difference 😒
