AIBU to think this chancer (with a horrible makeup) is just an entitled, freeloading brat?

VLogger asking for a free hotel room and gets a beautiful reply from hotel owner.

And she (Elle) then vlogged about it

So what if she did? If you've got the hypocritical cafe owner threatening to expose you, something called bullshitcallerouters after you, and you want some support (she didn't really do anything wrong, even Twat Cafe Owner asked his followers for cash according to the previously posted link!) then you might post a video. Why should he profit by being a big bitch, publicly humiliating, link dropping his own blog in the process, and the vlogger is expected to suck it up and cry quietly as everyone bitched about her? You said yourself if you zoomed in on her name people could see it was her. Why should she just lay quietly about all the online abuse?
No,I don't think so.

Bazzle · 19/01/2018 00:14

Exposure is CF vlogger lifeblood.

To think this vlogger is a CF?
timeforachangeithink · 19/01/2018 00:14

She is a CF but the hotel owner is vile.

BulletFox · 19/01/2018 00:16

Poor likkle 22 year old with all these nasty 30 year olds wanting to spoil their inane self entitled ramblings fun

Estellanpip · 19/01/2018 00:19

'I had the purest intention, the PUREST intention' ya, a free holiday 😂
'Running a business' I call that trying your luck.
Also, why are these adult women infantilising themselves lately? 'A grown man....grown women in their 30s picking on a young girl' no, you're a woman. I heard a reality star shouting in the street the other day, 'I'm only a 26 year old girl!' What?!
Back to this vlogger: she described comments like 'pay your own way' as bullying abuse. Then condescended everyone by saying they don't understand how social media works.
Mind boggling.

DreamyMcDreamy · 19/01/2018 00:25

How is she not paying her own way though? She is. To say she isn't and publicly slate her does come across as unnecessary abuse.
If you've got a youtube channel, you presumably collect content, film, edit etc, provide a platform for companies. Then continuously promote your content and the brand. It won't just be simpering in your bedroom.
Will be bloody hard work I would have thought.
Maybe not 9 to 5 work but companies do pay for it.
He could have just said no instead of deciding to inflate his own ego and social media following.

Carouselfish · 19/01/2018 00:25

YANBU. When she gets over 30, she'll be so embarrassed by her younger self.
God, I dread my DD growing up.

BattleCuntGalactica · 19/01/2018 00:27

Why are people on this thread not getting that EXPOSURE DOES NOT PAY BILLS, no matter how much you think it does. Wake up.

Tisgrand · 19/01/2018 00:28

Dreamy - are you her?

SockUnicorn · 19/01/2018 00:31

i do think shes cheeky and you shouldnt ask for things for free. my DN is 22 (same age) and so I know first hand, theyre all self indulgent twats. That generation seem very entitled. HOWEVER I don't think the hotel owner needed to be so brutal. By all means send his email back to her but to post it seems just unnecessary. I have been catching up on his posts. He banned all vegans at one point. Now hes blanket banned ALL bloggers. He appears to be very savvy and realize his "gordon ramsay / simon cowell esque" nasty man image brings publicity and customers. One customers actually left a 1* review as the food and staff were nice when he wanted to be abused! Confused.

So while I do think the girl is a CF and I would be mortified if she were my child, I don't think she deserved what happened. But he did block her name out so she could have slinked away without this drama. She chose to do the video and identify herself. Also an issue, reading her email to him, she didnt say "reduced cost or complimentary" as she repeatedly says in her video. She asked for it free. And She also did not say she would review him honestly. She promised to "bring traffic to your hotel and recommend others to book up" in return for a free stay. So what if it was a shithole? Her integrity definitely isnt right.

However its crossed my mind that this girl may not be as stupid as she looks and may have read his previous Vegan arguments (splashed all over his facebook) and fancied some free publicity herself. Poking the bear = newspaper coverage and national support from other vloggers. The hotel owner himself has since declared (tongue in cheek) that bloggers "are a much more lucrative group of people to piss off than the vegans and the gluten intolerant combined." So clearly he knows there's no such thing as bad publicity.

Ofthread · 19/01/2018 00:34

I'm really worried about her eyes.

DreamyMcDreamy · 19/01/2018 00:34

Dreamy - are you her?

Grin No, really am not but could see that coming!

PriaMaicel · 19/01/2018 00:36

Can almost guarantee that this drama is contrived, both sides have form for attention seeking and publicity stunts.

DreamyMcDreamy · 19/01/2018 00:38

Why are people on this thread not getting that EXPOSURE DOES NOT PAY BILLS, no matter how much you think it does

It does when brands pay well for a blog or vlog post. Depending on your engagement/followers, you can earn several hundred pounds just for one post.
I think this Elle knows exactly what she's doing, why shouldn't she get in on it when Cafe Twat Owner is doing the exact same thing.

Ofthread · 19/01/2018 00:40

Oh, she just had eye surgery!

Bumblesnuff4Crimpysnitch · 19/01/2018 00:46

I haven't read all the responses here so not sure if I'm repeating other poster's comments. What got me initially was her comment As a 22 year old girl. I wish I had known being an adult at that age wasn't compulsory Grin

I honestly think that if my child spoke and behaved in this way I would feel ashamed that I'd done such a shite job bringing them up, and after the shame the embarrassment would eat me up.

If I received such a badly structured business letter I wouldn't waste my time responding. If her email is typical of her writing style why would any respectable business want their name associated with her social media ego trips?

Had a chuckle about her saying she has been exposed, not realising she exposed herself, but then saying she was SO embarrassed!

She said she was crying alone in her car; I'd probably not be far wrong to guess this is the car her parents have to sort out insurance, serving and MOTs for because she didn't realise that when you get to 18 years old you are an adult and should be able to do adult things.Confused

Bumblesnuff4Crimpysnitch · 19/01/2018 00:47

Oops, that message was way too long!

DreamyMcDreamy · 19/01/2018 00:49

Oh,WTF? Pure and utter speculation. What's that got to do with her post?
Could quite easily have bought it outright and paying for it herself for all you know!

asprinklingofsugar · 19/01/2018 00:54

She was also named in the comments on the facebook post, by another commenter. And the owner's replies to other commenters who calmly disagreed with him were negative, goady and quite nasty really I thought - I wasn't altogether comfortable with the tone I thought they were meant to be in. And I think another commenter mentioned that the owner had worked with other bloggers/vloggers in the past so he was clearly not opposed to them all together (even if he says he is now).

And in my opinion, regardless of how entitled or not she was, the reaction was way OTT. If he wanted to reply to her like that he could have done it over email, and that would have been the end of it. Instead he chose to broadcast it on a public forum, not necessarily knowing if she would see his reply to her or not, which is slightly unprofessional, and therefore seemingly doing it for his own pleasure/self-promo. Others of course saw it and jumped on the bandwagon, and I'm sure more than a few, sent insults etc to this girl. A group of people sending hateful messages targeted to one specific person is cyberbullying , and even though she may be a chancer, no one deserves to be bullied.

Agreed.

Estellanpip · 19/01/2018 01:05

Dreamy, in relation to the hotel stay. People told her to pay her own way rather than try to blag a freebie.
Just like she has costs for equipment and filming, the hotelier has to meet his costs, too: paying employees, utilities, running a real business.
She keeps saying how she works her arse off, grafting. She's not toiling down the mines!

DreamyMcDreamy · 19/01/2018 01:10

The hotel owner apparently tried to get his followers to pay his phone bill according to the link up thread and raised quite a bit.
He link plopped his own blog into his "witty and scathing" reply that he promptly sent viral, presumably for his own gain.
She won't have just got a freebie. It's a recognised, albeit more modern, way of advertising a company.
Yes she should have done her research more, but he is way out of order.
The way he's capitilizing on all this for his own gain shows he knows exactly what followers and engagements do so he's got a nerve pulling her up on it.

BattleCuntGalactica · 19/01/2018 01:13

@DreamyMcDreamy it pays HER BILLS. Her waffling on about a hotel on her vlog does not directly give that hotel money. He has staff to pay, he needs her to pay him in money for his time - not by some bullshit promise of exposure.

She is way out of order. Stop defending her.

DreamyMcDreamy · 19/01/2018 01:15

Just like she has costs for equipment and filming

Equipment and filming? I'll hazard a guess sometimes it's just you and your camera and tripod.
Costs for filming? No, half the time it'll just be you promoting your posts in order to get seen.

DreamyMcDreamy · 19/01/2018 01:22

He has staff to pay, he needs her to pay him in money for his time - not by some bullshit promise of exposure.

Some companies do approach vloggers/bloggers with proper money, though. They want the exposure and are willing to pay lots of money for one mention.
He didn't need it obviously, and instead decided to get a plug in for his own blog by publicly calling her out.
At the same time moaning at her for asking for promotion when he apparently called on his followers for cash too in the past.Bit hypocritical.
