AIBU to think this chancer (with a horrible makeup) is just an entitled, freeloading brat?

VLogger asking for a free hotel room and gets a beautiful reply from hotel owner.

I hadn't heard of either of them before this thread. I won't be following either of them as I don't have the social media required and don't really understand vlogging anyway but I imagine they both have more followers after this so job done.

I do get bored of this sharing of private communication to illicit a mass internet response though - it's so transparent.
She asked, his response was no and yet there's all this bloody drama attached over a non event. The pair of them are as bad as each other

TenancyTroublesAgain · 19/01/2018 01:54

No idea who either of them are. First impression is that yeah, she comes across annoyingly and I suppose it is cheeky but there was no need them the hotel to be such a cunt about it. Say no and move on.

As has been said already, he did the same thing himself. So...

Also, just had a quick look at her YouTube. She recently had surgery on her eye, which is why it looks like that.

The criticisms on her appearance are uncalled for.

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 19/01/2018 02:18

She is an absolute cheeky twat she got what she derseved her mistake was emailing the fella who runs the hotel because he is well known for giving people an absolute roasting on social media lesson learnt for her me thinks.

Lemongincosy · 19/01/2018 02:26

CF / manipulative brat is what she is. Being 22 doesn’t come into it - you either have form for being a sneaky troublemaker or you don’t.

I watched the start of the video and I pity young girls who are so badly parented they are influenced by bloggers like this. What’s to aspire to?! Brains: no. Beauty: no. Professionalism / integrity: no.

I am SICK of people appearing online who are not happy until they’ve created a victim status for themselves. This blogger in particular seems like an absolute liability and i would not want her near my brand. Where does the entitlement come from?! I could maybe understand if she had actually achieved anything except from claiming victim status and going to primark and being proud of looking like a twit for all the world to see.

Had never heard of paul s before but just read his blog and loved it - particularly the very honest and interesting sections on his battle with alcoholism.

MidniteScribbler · 19/01/2018 02:44

She won't have just got a freebie. It'secognised, albeit more modern, way of advertising a company.

Let's face it, most of the big social media personalities have well over a million subscribers. One person I actually follow has 4.5 million. Another has 3.5 million followers. Those are just on youtube alone, not including their Instagram, facebook and twitter followers. They get offered a lot of freebies, they don't go and ask for them. This girl admitted that she wanted a weekend away with her boyfriend and expected a free weekend's stay for it, then to put up a video with just 86k subscribers. A lot of people, sure, but no where near the hemisphere of the truly top social media vloggers (the top one has nearly 60 million subscribers).

She's a very small fish, in a very big pond and not a lot of 'bang for their buck' with her demographic audience. A look at her videos shows around 20-30k views per video (the one I watch gets 2-3 million per video), so pretty small realistically in the vlogger world. The hotel/restaurant owner has more subscribers than she does, so there's no financial benefit to him in giving away a free weekend to a nobody. It's no different to me ringing up and asking for free stuff.

Womble75 · 19/01/2018 03:22

The hotel owner apparently tried to get his followers to pay his phone bill according to the link up thread and raised quite a bit.

Which was all donated to Crumlin Children's Hospital...
He also took all his staff to Disneyland as a Christmas present for all their hard work..

MadMags · 19/01/2018 07:38

He also took the piss out of homeless charities...

He also took the piss out of people with special needs...

Aeroflotgirl · 19/01/2018 08:33

How is she possibly giving exposure, considering her fan base are mostly teenagers who cannot afford hotels like his.

k2p2k2tog · 19/01/2018 08:36

I'm a freelance writer and people do this to me all the time. "Oh if you write this 1000 word piece for our website we'll put your name on it and it'll be fantastic exposure for you" or "we'll tweet about how amazing you are if you just give us a freebie" or "this is an excellent opportunity to build your portfolio".

Just no. If you want me to work for you, you're going to have to pay me.

Aeroflotgirl · 19/01/2018 09:07

Really now she has exposure for all the wrong reasons. I agree k2, you have to earn a living, to pay the bills and live, you can't live off promises.

k2p2k2tog · 19/01/2018 09:11

I think this whole fiasco proves a few points:

This "social media influencer" really didn't do her homework. Had she googled the hotel or looked through its social media she would have realised the reputation of the owner for being fierce. She's created a template email and whacked it out to 50 hotels in Dublin to see what sticks.

Of course brands work with bloggers/YouTubers to promote their brands but there has to be something in the relationship for both parties. What was the Dublin hotel getting from this? Her following is small. There are thousands like her. What is she offering that millions of others aren't? She's nothing special in terms of followers or niche. Brands are not daft though and will target the bloggers they think are most relevant.

The social media response by the hotel did its very best to anonymise the blogger concerned. They did not identify her. (or at least not delibetately, they took steps to conceal her identity). It was her minions and followers who did all of that all by themselve with their OTT responses.

Estellanpip · 19/01/2018 09:15

No, dreamy, it isn't. It doesn't work like that.
And yes it was a bit of a stretch to have said she has equipment and filming costs, that was my point. Her outgoings are very low compared to his.

Fruitboxjury · 19/01/2018 09:30

If your platform of engagement is social media you have to be as aware of its pitfalls as you are of its opportunities.

I think this social media “influencer” has just learnt that social media is bigger than she is, and its users are much more likely to influence her than she is influence its users.

People are starting to get really pissed off with the fact that there doesn’t seem to be a fair price for anything anymore. Either customers are expecting something for nothing (like this, or eg haggling for good and services, especially on selling sites... which most just go on and resell themselves) or companies are ripping off consumers with subscriptions, contracts, built in price increases or reducing product sizes etc etc.

I think there will be a backlash before long, in exactly this kind of way. This hotelier has done all other hotels a huge service by rejecting her requests, hopefully it’s this kind of example that makes freeloaders think before they ask, it’s just a shame for her that someone has to so publicly be the fall guy.

velourvoyageur · 19/01/2018 09:36

Neither come off well, to be honest.

I worked for a company representing brands who'd do similar collabs with bloggers (ok, not anywhere near the value of what she was asking, but same principle), and I don't think the proposal in itself is that bad. Cheeky, but not unprecedented, and easy just to ignore. We're constantly told that if you don't ask, you don't get, and to stick your neck out etc etc. His response was totally OTT and pretty nasty. V. unprofessional of him to post a private email - did he even reply to her personally, or was it just on social media? His ban on bloggers also makes him look ridiculous and a bit unhinged...how's he going to screen for that?

She's obviously got no perspective on this & is a bit dishonest to boot, saying she'd asked for 'a discount' in the video, when she used the phrase 'for free' in her email. She could have cut the vid down to a minute, just said that she's aware it was a cheeky request but that she was surprised at the way he handled it.
Just two idiots throwing their toys out of the pram for nothing.

goldengimbas · 19/01/2018 09:37

She is a spoilt brat. He didn't name and shame her and then the deluded cow went crying to her followers. You named and shamed yourself love.
My really fear for kids nowadays including my own with people like her as a role model. This stupid vlogging things needs to stop now
Also if it was not for us over 30 somethings she would not have social media.

StripySocksAndDocs · 19/01/2018 09:39

I can't stand him, the pasty faced doughnut. He's a horrible human being. She definitely chose the wrong nasty man to e-mail there.

I tried to watch her but my life she waffles. Fast forwarded to the end where she said something funny, but I've instantly forgotten. Just recall I sniggered slightly.

She's a fierce (sparkly faced) cheek certainly with a topping of misplace entitlement. A simple no would have done.

(Up to know I'd though CF was 'cunty fucker. Everyday is a school day.)

StripySocksAndDocs · 19/01/2018 09:42

Though I disagree exposure does help pay expenses. Sometimes it's called advertising. Admittedly needs to be off the right platform, (so not her) but still saying it doesn't is not true.

Babayaggatheboneylegged · 19/01/2018 09:55

Well, they've both garnered plenty of 'exposure' from this little spat, and I imagine neither of them will suffer as a result of it.

The cynic in me feels neither of them could have planned this better...

TheHungryDonkey · 19/01/2018 09:55

I think she's been a bit of a tit, but the comments on here about her appearance are nothing but online bullying.

From most of the comments I've read on here and online generally, people don't seem to understand that blogging or vlogging is a valid business option. The number of followers she has is not embarrassing for what she's doing.

Her biggest mistake was not researching the people she was contacting and not putting in a professional pitch. Firing off a few 'cheeky' emails is not a good idea. But though in some respects it's bitten her in the arse she was right. Her exposure has ultimately been good for him. I'd never heard of his hotel before this. And, it's probably been good for her.

I reckon the biggest problem with blogging is that people don't do it so much to create a well crafted blog for a niche market, they go into it for the free stuff. It's killing a very valid form of online media.

StripySocksAndDocs · 19/01/2018 10:04

Don't think I've come across a vlogger I haven't found mindnumbingly boring. Tempted to capitalise and underline that word too just to emphasis just how boring I find them.

raglansleeve · 19/01/2018 10:04

Dreamy, I'm ancient (probs s/be dead according to vloggers/bloggers.instagrmmers etc) but know how this stuff works, and also know that many bloggers/vloggers etc have been exposed for lying, do not acknowledge comped stuff and are mostly vacuous, inane wannabes who seem to have an undue influence over children and young people, giving them a really skewed idea of what life is like.

How many threads have we had on here from women whose son/daughter wants to start a vlog or Tube channel because of the stuff they've seen kids online get. There are many studies now taking place which show the detrimental affect this kind of crap is having on our young people.

What about the vlogger a couple of weeks ago who posted about a suicide on a vlog read by children.

These idiots are normalising entitled behaviour - why would we want our children to be influenced by these airheads. I haven't come across one of these chumps with anything to contribute to the total sum of the wellbeing of the world. It's all ME ME ME and how they can obtain more stuff.

DarthNigel · 19/01/2018 11:43

Poor girl. She seems to be 'super' offended by someone having the sheer audacity to say no to her.
Hang on to your (probably given to you
Free, designer) hat love....people say no to things you want or or things you might even consider to be your right to have or do, all the time in life....and sometimes it really is unfair and there is nothing you can do about it.

I still don't really know who watches this stuff...probably because I'm over 30...

Didntcomeheretofuckspiders · 19/01/2018 11:50

What is wrong with her eye though?!

DollyDayScream · 19/01/2018 11:50

This really is the most self indulgent shit. Who has time to watch this rubbish! How she makes a living off this is anyone's guess!

DarthNigel · 19/01/2018 11:52

I do understand vlogging despite my advanced age and I actually think fair play to those that earn a living by it. If enough people are vacuous enough to subscribe to it then why should they not make money?
Also I almost admire her cheeky fuckery in sending the emails asking for free stuff-again fine...
But to get so outraged when someone says no, as they've every right to, that you then drone on for 17 minutes about how mortally offended and devastated you are?
If you are a professional CF, then surely you chalk your failures up against your victories and move on?
