Does anyone else comfort watch TV?

I was thinking about what a weirdo I am- because that's what weirdos do!- earlier, because of my all time favourite TV programme (something got me thinking about it).
Then I got to thinking, is comfort viewing a favourite programme a thing? A bit like comfort eating? AIBU to just want to slob out and rewatch A Place In Slovakia or A Place In Spain every now and again?!

Bake Off.

It gives me a warm happy glow.

LaLaLolly · 18/01/2018 20:46

Jeeves and Wooster
Agatha Christie Miss Marple
Gilmore Girls
Lucia and Mapp

When the world gets tricky, I like gentle programs (or audiobooks) where nothing much happens. It's reassuring.

Oh yes I definitely comfort watch old programmes. My go to favourites are;

The Darling Buds Of May
The House Of Eliott
To The Manor Born
dinner ladies
The Wind In The Willows (1980s stop motion animation version)

They all make the world a better place.

MissClareRemembers · 18/01/2018 20:48

Not Going Out
Homes under the Hammer

firawla · 18/01/2018 21:15

Yes!! Greys anatomy is my comfort watching show, because I’ve seen it so many times. I also like comfort watching movies that I’ve seen loads of times before, I think it’s because it doesn’t take any concentration

hellswelshy · 18/01/2018 21:17

Oh yes!! All. The. Time. My comfort tv choices are: Friends, Frasier, Everyone Loves Raymond, SATC, The Royal Family, Stella and The Good Life. All make me feel happy & fuzzy Grin

Strokethefurrywall · 18/01/2018 21:18

I comfort watch ALL the time!

Friends, Gavin & Stacy (especially the Christmas Special as I don't live in the UK), Greys Anatomy, Michael McIntyre's comedy roadshow.

DH's is Only Fools and Horses or Still Game.

Singlebutmarried · 18/01/2018 21:20

YES!!

But proper guilty pleasures (I blame my mum) re runs if heartbeat on yesterday channel.

Other than that:

Castle, suits, criminal minds, anything Marvel related, buffy, angel, firefly

maddiemookins16mum · 18/01/2018 21:28

I bingefest on the food network, a lot.
(also True Entertainment and watch back to back Waltons and LHOTP).

applecatchers36 · 18/01/2018 21:30

Yes some programmes are so comforting!!
Downton Abbey, Poldark, historical drama
Gardeners world, Monty Don and the beautiful gardens
David Attenborough documentaries, it's his soothing, soporific voice
I even enjoy Antiques Roadshow as a gentle Sunday night viewing Shock

HerBigChance · 18/01/2018 22:15

The Joan Hickson Miss Marple series
Old Poirot episodes
All Creatures Great and Small
Upstairs Downstairs (the 1970s one)
Jonathan Creek

NancyDonahue · 18/01/2018 22:18

Friends and The Middle. Also love old Neighbours!

Also love old game shows. Bullseye, Family Fortunes, Catchphrase etc - the older the better. They remind me of childhood, all sat around the TV shouting out the answers.

KimchiLaLa · 18/01/2018 22:31

I comfort watch the west wing. Obviously I've seen it 50 times but there's nothing like good Bartlett speech to make you feel all warm and fuzzy. I also comfort watch cooking shows (pioneer woman, nigella, Nigel slater)

SixSausages · 18/01/2018 22:31

Coffee me too, the channel that is More4 is my haven. Grin

peoplearepeople · 18/01/2018 22:38

Yes, I do this when I'm feeling anxious quite often. I'll watch

Original Prisoner Cell Block H. Yes, I actually have the whole series. Blush
Sunset Beach.
Game on.
Men behaving badly.
Absolutely Fabulous.
Red Dwarf
Columbo

I've noticed that I do mainly seem to revert to watching things I loved as a teen. Confused
I often wish I still watched Neighbours and Home & Away. I was glued to them when I was younger but haven't watched them for about 20 years now so probably wouldn't have a clue what was going on anymore.

peoplearepeople · 18/01/2018 22:39

Forgot to add Malcolm in the Middle. Smile

PrivateParkin · 18/01/2018 23:16

Yes, loads of these. Midsomer, Joan Hickson Miss Marple, New Tricks, Poirot, etc. Luckily I have a crap memory so I can never remember who the murderer is.

MadamMinacious · 18/01/2018 23:21

I comfort watch Star Trek (next gen), Buffy, Project Runway and Grey's Anatomy. I also find Doctors very soothing Grin
