Does anyone else comfort watch TV?

I was thinking about what a weirdo I am- because that's what weirdos do!- earlier, because of my all time favourite TV programme (something got me thinking about it).
Then I got to thinking, is comfort viewing a favourite programme a thing? A bit like comfort eating? AIBU to just want to slob out and rewatch A Place In Slovakia or A Place In Spain every now and again?!

Just realised I made it sound like I have Midsomer on dvd. I don't! I meant other things like Sherlock, Jekyll & Hyde etc

toldmywrath · 18/01/2018 20:01

I'm watching The Duchess of Duke Street, I never saw it before but it's so inoffensive
I've got it on series link, it's being shown on Drama channel.

I'm also watching the ITV 3 run of Coronation Street first broadcast in 1987. Series link, too. I have not watched modern Corrie for years, too nasty.

It's definitely comfort TV!

AliasGrape · 18/01/2018 20:03

Friends for when I’m anxious and just need my brain to stop, Say Yes to the Dress also!

Parks and Recreation, Lewis, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Crazy Ex Girlfriend for more general comfort tv after a long day.

Soyalatteforme · 18/01/2018 20:04

Yes! Some programmes make me feel so....safe!

Call the Midwife
Poirot
Marple
Downtown Abbey

crackerjacket · 18/01/2018 20:05

I've watched 'A Walk in the Woods' film with Robert Redford and Nick Nolte about 8 times. Its so soothing.

Thesmallthings · 18/01/2018 20:05

Netflix... Emma... Sense and sensibility... Pride and prejudice.. The BBC series!... Not movies!...

Amazon... Anything superhero... At the moment The Flash!!

And... Mapp and Lucia! (BBC again!) absolutely perfect for background.. Calming and soothing! Definitely!!

Cookiefiend · 18/01/2018 20:08

When I am can't sleep because my mind won't stop I listen to friends and frasier with the screen off. I can picture what's happening in my head. I refer to it as comfort TV too. Was horrified to discover it's 25 years since friends started. I don't think it looks that dated. How time flies.

Also watch the west wing again and again.

whyismykid · 18/01/2018 20:10

I’m watching Grey’s Anatomy on Amazon prime (on season 4 of 13...) and it’s pure therapy!

JenniferYellowHat1980 · 18/01/2018 20:10

I don't comfort watch at all. I binge on Mumsnet. Love the CF threads.

AlwaysDancing1234 · 18/01/2018 20:10

25 years since friends?! Bloody hell I feel old now!
Off to steal remote from DH so I can watch Gavin and Stacey - tidy Grin

YouTheCat · 18/01/2018 20:12

We've just started watching Friends from the start. Also have nearly finished Star Trek: Next Gen.

MintCassis · 18/01/2018 20:18

I've lost count of the number of times I've watched Jonathan Creek! Even when I was 11 it was my escape/comfort programme. I've got Poirot on just now for the same reason. I've noticed I always want to watch them more in winter than summer for some reason Hmm

TheEagle · 18/01/2018 20:22

Ooh, yes to ST:TNG as comfort telly!

DeStijl · 18/01/2018 20:24

Charmed is my go to comfort show.
I've seen every episode many times but I just love it. I got into it after leaving hospital when I was very unwell with depression and if I'm ever low now its a real comfort.

TeaAddict235 · 18/01/2018 20:26

Teen Mom and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills

or
THe Hills if its on MTV (DS1 used to wake up at 5am, thank God that this would come on daily, DH thought I was a superhero taking the morning wake up calls!! heeheheh)

Whatwouldkeithrichardsdo · 18/01/2018 20:26

I was thinking about this the other day too.

I watch Ru Paul's Drag Race when I am in a low mood. I find it so comforting.

Estellanpip · 18/01/2018 20:26

Some of these are my go-to aswell, like Jonathan Creek and the period dramas.
Catherine Cookson tv films are perfect for Sunday afternoons, even though I've seen them all a zillion times. So soothing!

Anytime I want comfort, I turn to the above.

Currently watching Kiri and Next of Kin and will watch Brittania tonight.

mrsharrison · 18/01/2018 20:33

Yeah Duchess of Duke Street is my comfort view each day. I lie in bed and watch it. Bliss.

Fruitbat1980 · 18/01/2018 20:35

Only fools and horses (had the VHS’s at uni when I was too homesick to sleep they kept me comforted and are still my go to)
Numbers - was on throughout the night when DS was newborn. Brings back happy night feed memories of the two of us snuggled on sofa at 4am!
