A nod to Banzai there for old timers like me.

Old thread here.

Question is, is it Mueller time yet? Anyone fancy placing a bet on when Trump will exit the POTUS role?

My bet: 20 March 2019.

For any of our American friends:

Indivisible Guide
‏*@IndivisibleTeam*
Good morning Indivisibles: The most important thing you can do is call your Senator’s office before NOON today. Dems need reassurance that you want them to keep standing with Dreamers. We’re hearing privately that some are getting shaky. 1/
The Senate votes today at noon on a 3 week CR that DOESN’T include Dream. It comes with a “commitment” from McConnell to vote on Dream in February. Not good enough. 2/
Why is it not good enough? It does nothing to protect Dreamers. And it’s nothing but a pinky swear from Mitch McConnell, who just in the last month broke “commitments” to members of his OWN party. 3/
Offices may have a skeletal staff because of the #TrumpShutdown. That’s ok. Call anyway. Phones ringing off the hook = reminder you’re behind them. Call, leave a voicemail, and then send an email through your Senator’s website. We need a FLOOD of calls/emails. Let’s do this. 4/4

A Beast piece.

Team Trump bypassed DHS analysts to produce report

Who gets blamed for the shutdown? Here's what the polls say

Is K.T. McFarland Headed for Singapore? Or Mueller’s Clutches?

Thanks, both. Interesting.

The last part of the debate starts with a joke.

It's 2020 and Joe Biden has won the presidential election. (this next part will be in 2021, in fact). A man goes to the WH entrance and asks to speak to President Trump. The door person reminds him that Trump is no longer President and it's now President Biden. The next day the same happens, then a third day. Finally, the door person asks the man why he keeps going every day. Doesn't he know the President has changed? He says he knows, but wants to have the pleasure of being reminded every day that Trump is no longer President.

Coons, who voted against the last effort to keep government open, signals he’s open to latest push after McConnell commitments. Lots of expectation now that this will get 60, reopening govt after positive comments from senators

Trump used accent to imitate India's prime minister: report

cozietoesie · 22/01/2018 17:08

Oh Dear. I guess he'll definitely give Davos a miss then?

I anticipate a vote to recommence government.

cozietoesie · 22/01/2018 17:10

Sorry.

Guess who is giving the keynote? Wink

Fekko · 22/01/2018 17:11

I’m hoping the other leaders will pee in his sleeping bag and hide his bug repellant (I’m not sure why but I imagine it like a big girl guide/scout camp for grownups).

BREAKING: Senate Democrats cave, provide votes based on McConnell’s empty promise

Lweji · 22/01/2018 17:25

Davos is in Switzerland. The only insects he may need repellent for will be bed bugs, I expect. I hear there's an epidemic.

He won't like it. It will be cold.

Fekko · 22/01/2018 17:26

I will supply the bugs...

Lweji · 22/01/2018 17:26

So, they had a bipartisan proposal, but will support extreme wing GOP's for the sake of government. Hmm

Lweji · 22/01/2018 17:28

I will supply the bugs...

That's the spirit. I expect there will be a few several Portuguese immigrants working there, but, alas, I know of nobody, personally.

Lweji · 22/01/2018 17:33

Interesting vote in the conference room:

Who thinks Trump won the elections? - 0
Who thinks Hillary lost the elections - most of the rest.

BiglyBadgers · 22/01/2018 17:43

I'm still not clear...if the Dems let this budget through are they just putting the shutdown back for another month or is this longer term?

ginandtonicformeplease · 22/01/2018 17:48

Lweji, it just so happens that I’m off to Switzerland for work in a couple of days....to thank you all for keeping this going and keeping me informed I could take a detour via Davos.....

BiglyBadgers · 22/01/2018 17:54

Oh, I think I see now. This is just for 3 weeks...

TheNorthWestPawsage · 22/01/2018 18:11

All is not lost.

Was fairly predictable that Dems would get rolled. They didn’t have a much of a bargaining position.
BUT…. This does actually set them up a bit better for February
twitter.com/samstein/status/955487721186910208

Responses to Sam Stein's tweet
Strategically, IF they do this, and Senate passes DACA legislation only to have it tabled in the House by Ryan, then, CLEARLY, the country will see that GOP stands in the way of helping the Dreamers...

This is actually the best possible outcome right now. Gets CHIP off the table. Forces McConnell to move on DACA by Feb 8. Puts the onus 100% on McConnell if he fails, meaning a shutdown on Feb 8 is entirely his fault. Forces Ryan to think twice about Goodlatte monstrosity.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 22/01/2018 18:25

Fairly good explanation of what has to be sorted out by Feb 8th and what the options are.

The immigration negotiations Congress just gave itself three weeks to do, explained
