A nod to Banzai there for old timers like me.

Old thread here.

Question is, is it Mueller time yet? Anyone fancy placing a bet on when Trump will exit the POTUS role?

My bet: 20 March 2019.

The @NRA is having a pretty rough couple days:

  • 11 school shootings in 24 days
  • Reports of Russian money laundering
  • News breaking Mueller is investigating

Their response? Deafening silence. talkingpointsmemo.com/muckraker/nra-no-response-report-fbi-investigating-russian-banker-donation-trump

If they walk out on his speech tomorrow, the tweet storm afterwards is going to be incredible to behold (and utterly unhinged!).

#BREAKING: In June, Trump ordered special counsel Robert Mueller to be fired. He only backed down when the top White House lawyer threatened to quit.

To recap: Trump asked Comey for loyalty; asked him to drop the Flynn probe; fired Comey; pressured Sessions not to recuse; pressured Sessions to fire McCabe; pressured Coats, Rogers, Pompeo &multiple congressmen to say he wasn’t under FBI investigation; and tried to fire Mueller.

lionheart · 26/01/2018 06:11

McGahn is an oddity.

Remember the Sally Yates testimony?

At the first meeting McGahn understands the seriousness of the Flynn situation and at the second he wants her to clarify: “why does the DOJ care if one White House official lies to another?”

Some people like @maddow are going way overboard in calling McGhan a superhero. He did show backbone in defying POTUS, but he would’ve compounded his own legal exposure had he instead caved to POTUS after how he handled Comey and Flynn.

@maddow
ah! not calling him a hero — far from it — just noting that all of a sudden we are getting lots of well-sources stories conspicuously portraying him that way...

I'm probably not the first person to observe that the likely reason we're getting this leak now about Trump trying to fire Mueller in June is because Trump is thinking about it again and someone's trying to stop him.

Renato Mariotti
@renato_mariotti
1/ Today @nytimes reported that last June, a month after Comey was fired and Mueller was appointed Special Counsel, Trump ordered Mueller fired.
@renato_mariotti
2/ According to @nytimes, Trump argued Mueller had three conflicts of interest that disqualified him from overseeing the investigation:
3/ None of the three represent actual conflicts of interest for Mueller. First, Trump argued that Mueller had resigned from a Trump golf club years earlier due to a fees dispute. It’s hard to see that preventing Mueller from being fair.
4/ Second, Trump argued that Mueller had a conflict because he previously worked at the law firm that represented his son-in-law Jared Kushner. If anything, that would suggest that Mueller would be favorable to Trump.
5/ Trump also argued Mueller had a conflict because Trump interviewed him to be FBI Director shortly before his appointment. That’s an odd argument to make—Trump thought he was impartial enough to oversee the entire FBI, but not impartial enough to oversee this investigation?
6/ These appear to be thinly veiled excuses to fire Mueller, and they came after Trump already asked Comey to drop the Flynn investigation and fired Comey. Trump offered a false public explanation for the Comey firing as well.
7/ This new data point is really important, because Mueller has to prove that Trump was acting with “corrupt” intent. In other words, that his intent when he fired Comey was to impede the FBI investigation to help himself or his associates.
8/ Trump’s defense would likely be that he had a genuine belief that there was nothing to the Russia investigation and that it was a waste of time. He also could argue that he was ignorant of the gravity of his actions and thought firing Comey wouldn’t impede the investigation.
9/ Everything turns on intent because it is lawful for the President to fire the FBI Director for legitimate reasons. If Trump thought Comey did a bad job, he could fire Comey for that reason. This latest evidence helps Mueller undercut Trump’s likely defense.
10/ As a starting point, Trump’s desire to fire Mueller in June is another piece of evidence that suggests that he had an intense desire to end the Russia investigation. That’s an obvious point but it’s worth mentioning.
11/ More importantly, the fact that Trump came up with his own excuses to fire Mueller suggests that he knew that firing Mueller in order to end the Russia investigation was unlawful but he wanted to fire him anyway. That’s really powerful evidence for Mueller.
12/ Even more importantly, Trump tried to fire Mueller after he knew he was under investigation for obstructing justice and heard a lot of legal analysis and commentary discussing the potential illegality of his actions.
13/ That put him on notice that trying to undermine the investigation would be a crime. If I was prosecuting this case, I would present evidence that Trump read or viewed analysis discussing obstruction of justice to show that he knew obstructing the investigation was a crime.
14/ Mueller could also contrast how Trump fired Comey with how he tried to fire him. The fact that Trump came up with own excuses for firing Mueller but initially did not do so for firing Comey could be used to infer that he became more sophisticated about hiding his true intent.
15/ Altogether, this is strong evidence that greatly helps Mueller’s case against Trump. Some have speculated that McGahn leaked this story. If he did, why? Could he be trying to curry favor with Mueller? Presumably Mueller knows the facts underlying this story already.
16/ This story raises more questions than answers. But the bottom line is that it suggests that it is more likely that Mueller will ultimately conclude that Trump obstructed justice. /end

www.politico.com/amp/story/2018/01/25/trump-mueller-fired-order-report-370807?__twitter_impression=true

Lawyers involved with Mueller’s investigation viewed the report as a potentially ominous sign.

“It’s one more brick in the wall,” said a Washington lawyer representing another senior Trump aide in the Russia probe who added that the most interesting aspect of the Trump-Mueller story to him was that “people are leaking this shit.”

“That is a sign to me people perceive this ship has sprung a leak and it’s time to make themselves look good,” the attorney said. “To some extent I think the fact of the leaking is almost the most significant, that we’ve reached an inflection point where people at the center of things feel the need to redeem themselves at the expense of the president.”

Trump’s on with piers Morgan on gmb it anyone can bear to watch

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 26/01/2018 07:12

Because piers is the only Bly person on the world who could’ve accurately judged whether Britain first were white supremacists or not. That’s why it took trump so long to apologise (if you can call it that)

Piers Morgan

BREAKING NEWS:
President Trump has publicly apologised for retweeting far-right group Britain First.
Says he didn't know who they were. 'I don't want to be involved with these people. If you're telling me they're horrible racist people. I certainly apologise.'

I hope those representatives do walk out when Trumpy gives his Davos speech. I also hope that they get support from the "Normay" type countries as well.
But sadly I doubt any of the non "shithole" countries will have the balls to join them in their protest.

Remember how when special counsel Robert Mueller was appointed in May, Republicans had nothing but praise for him? And then about a month later, they suddenly did a 180?

That 180 coincided with Trump's attempt to fire Mueller. 👇
