To tell you about my dirty lunch?

I have a day at home alone today. Upon mooching around in the fridge just now, I delightedly came upon a few left over roast potatoes from Sunday lunch. I've just popped them in the oven and am planning on crushing them, adding grated cheese and smothering them in mayo.

My defence for this dirty lunch is I'm full of cold and ravenous. I deserve it.

Anyone else having a dirty lunch? What's your excuse? Grin

Yeah the " dirty " and " cheeky " infront of things is worse then the thought of 2 day old potatoes smothered in cheese and mayo Hmm

I have recently rediscovered the joy that is bubble and squeak. Leftover roast potatoes and parsnips, left over sprouts, halved, all fried up with onion (in goose fat dripping, if you have it) until brown and piping hot, then served with a fried egg. Uses up a lot of calories on My Fitness Pal, but is worth every one!

Afreshcuppateaplease · 16/01/2018 11:43

Well i had a crumpet and now im very disapointed with my choice

Grumblepants · 16/01/2018 11:44

Also WFH today and been looking in the fridge. I was thinking cheese omelette with bacon and more cheese. Only problem DH is also WFH and I'd have to make it for him too but I want to be dirty in private! 😉

InappropriateUsername · 16/01/2018 11:44

I assumed you were going to say greasy kebab, not sure what you’re having is dirty enough. IMO dirty food has to be excessivly greasy or unnecessarily loaded with cheese, lots and lots of cheese. The dirtiest lunch I ever had was Poutine from a food fair van, it had bacon in it for extra measure and I can bring on heartburn just thinking about it. I feel sick now.

Dancetothebeat32 · 16/01/2018 11:45

I would have put the cheese on the roasties while still in oven so it melted and was more gooey THEN add another handful of cheese Grin homemade Shepard's pie in the oven for DPs dinner, he's been rained off work last 2 days and yesterday's trip to the chip cost 17 quid......just for him 🤨🤨🤨🤨

InappropriateUsername · 16/01/2018 11:49

Oh and dirty, cheeky is nothing...putting ‘Super’ in front of your sentence is a fooking abhorration

Eltonjohnssyrup · 16/01/2018 11:50

I just drank a cup of gravy with hot sauce. Now that is filthy.

Aeroflotgirl · 16/01/2018 11:52

I hate the term 'dirty' to refer to food, dirty fries, dirty burger etc. Makes it seem yuck. Its just food, that;s all. Enjoy your lunch, it looks lovely.

ShimmeringIce · 16/01/2018 11:55

HTF do you spend £17 in the chippie for one person?!?

I'm also ill and badly wanted something hot and delicious and no effort for lunch. In the absence of drive through vegetarian risotto fast food, I have bacon supernoodles 😳 They're ok. Maybe I should have melted some cheese on top....

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 16/01/2018 11:56

Fgs what does it matter if the OP calls it a dirty lunch. I get what she meant.

Some of you just can't help yourselves.

Ginandanything · 16/01/2018 11:56

Calling food 'dirty' implies an edginess that is SO not present.

Jamie Oliver may use the word but that simply reinforces my previous sentence.

helenoftroyville · 16/01/2018 12:00

Some posters are a little uptight, don't know what light hearted means Confused

Agree they need to unclench and perhaps have a dirty lunch once in a while

BarbaraofSevillle · 16/01/2018 12:01

£17 in just about any chip shop in Yorkshire would buy fish and chips 3 times in massive portions that would not fit on a dinner plate.

Or you could swap one of the portions of chips for peas, gravy and a couple of breadcakes and have enough food for 4-6 people.

Not a dirty lunch, that wil be soup, but last night I did the silly thing of shopping while hungry. I happened to be passing by the freezer section when the pangs took over my reasoning faculties. .........

I spotted fish fingers, which I don't think I have eaten for about 20years (posh artisan ones in fish restaurants don't count!). so two slices of bread, Mayo. tomato ketchup, a sliced spring onion, a few leaves of spinach, a couple of sliced mini tomatoes and four of Captain Birdseyes finest. Fish finger sarnie, dirty food of the gods.

NancyDonahue · 16/01/2018 12:03

That was delicious. I finished off the Matchmakers as well. Now washing it all down with a big mug of tea and watching Wanted Down Under with the curtains shut. Feeling much better. My virus ridden body absolutely needed a feast Smile

Blimey some on here could do with chilling out a bit, ok so op called her lunch dirty well we will send her for a hanging shall we?

OP what you needed with that was more cheese, too much cheese and some crispy bacon or chopped up sausage.

etap · 16/01/2018 12:04

Nando's: Cheeky
Lunch: Dirty
Noodles: Super

Any others?

BiddyPop · 16/01/2018 12:04

I sometimes do roast potatoes with leftover cauliflower cheese (latter I freeze for when I am home alone!) as a dirty dinner to myself when DH is away.

I love th sound of Ouchbollox's lunch - I may have to swipe that idea to trial when DH is away....Wink

livefornaps · 16/01/2018 12:05

This gave me a good laugh.

BarbaraofSevillle · 16/01/2018 12:06

Viques I made fish tacos with fish fingers the other day. Mini wraps, two fish fingers in each, lettuce and chilli sauce. Didn't have any avocado or guacamole but they were amazing all the same.

purpleweasel · 16/01/2018 12:06

Always thought "dirty" meant the sort of food you had to wear a bib for. Does it just mean "with lots of melted cheese on" then?

user1495222250 · 16/01/2018 12:06

What's dirty about it?! Using up leftovers (especially the best food ever, roast potatoes) is great! I'm having a packet of crisps as I don't have the energy to warm anything up. Blush

Mischa123 · 16/01/2018 12:07

ffs, i have had fruit and yoghurt and some salt and vinegar rice cakes. I WANT ROAST POTATOES AND CHEESE. sod off with your delicious lunches
