Pass these gifts on but don't trumpet them and hound us over them.

So... Always tricky situation with in laws.

Relatives abroad handed Mil some gifts for us. Lovely, I appreciate the thought. We were not with the them for Xmas.. So thanks.

But.. We have been, or dh called from relatives abroad... Go and get your gifts.. Text and email from dh parents... A few repetitions.. Mil handed them over.. Saying to five year old... Ohh you have lots of gifts from relatives...

Get home and both dd got a colouring pencil set and book. Prices tag on each 2.50 euro.

I got some biscuits and dh a nice shirt.

Confused we have some visitors with us who know nothing of the background and they even said... Oh!was that all they gave them!!

Maybe they knew that your in-laws would have to fit the gifts in their luggage and wanted to keep things minimal. I think it's nice of them to have been so thoughtful, TBH.

I can't say exactly but let's say always something quite special and thoughtful.
Put it this way I would never wrap up biscuits unless they were a very special make.
Mil trumpeting these small but sweet gifts from her family! As though it's incredibly special these people bothered with the the dc and laden them with the thoughtful gifts.

Why would anyone wrap up biscuits?

Report
Lotsofgiftsreally · 15/01/2018 21:41

I don't know but they do.
As it happened I really fancied some biscuits at that moment Grin it's the competition from Mil.. Look what my family have given you dc

Wow look at this, wondeful gifts. It's galling.. Rubbed in our. My faceGrin. And she has critised every single gift any of my family have got the dc! It's all a competition and yet...

Don't worry OP. There are loads of weird people and they reveal themselves as even weirder when it comes to gifts. You can never fathom it. There are people in our family who are totally inexplicable. Try not to wonder too much, it will do your head in.

What a dreadful lesson you have given your children. How about gratitude and appreciation instead of whinging.

But did your MIL even know what was in the parcels?

If they were wrapped up how would mil know what they were?
I think you just hate mil....

Oh no I was thankful I was literally fancying something sweet but I wouldn't personally call people, email, text over and over... We have gifts here come and get and go on about biscuits Grin
It's not the gift per se it's the way they were given and secondly.. If Mil wants to turn things into a competition...

Oh yes they can never have enough coloring things at young age.... Mine got three sets of coloring pens this year each.. Loads of coloring books.. With other gifts.

Again if I was giving a child that.. And I have I just wouldn't go on and on about it.. It's an standard bog standard gift.

Op, I get you. When something has been hyped up and turned into a big deal and then it’s not, it’s a bit of a disappointment. Of course you were thankful out loud, but in your head, I know why you were thinking what you were thinking. Although I’m guessing mil didn’t know what was in the packages, but I’m guessing it was pretty obvious what they were. Why have you left it till mid January thoughts collect them? Christmas was weeks ago.

I find it odd. We have friends and family on my side who just give. It may be a pack of sweets, or a beautiful necklace.. They just give. There is no hype.. No one saying... Oh wow.. Aunty's x bought you this wow....

I just give... I would cringe if someone was making me out to be a martyr because I bought dc in the family a gift!
Why the fan fare? Maybe other posters do feel special for buying gifts Grin I don't I just do it.

Tricky to get over there to get them.
