Ok, I was probably over exaggerating (a little)

We need to take FIL away on hols. It needs to be sunny, short haul and somewhere very "Brits abroad" but not horrific as we have a 1 year old.

I thought costa brava might have nailed it but looking into it is that the nice costa? Do I need costa Blanca instead?

Malaga has a real mixture of Brits abroad and authentic Spanish stuff. Nice beaches too.

I second the Algarve - Albufeira, for one. About 2 streets away from the main square and the "All Day Engerlish Breakfasts" were beautiful cobblestone streets and an old lady all dressed in black sat on her front doorstep peeling potatoes.

saladdays66 · 13/01/2018 17:35

Don't go to the Costa Brava! It's lovely and Spanish! No fish and chip shops or pubs at all.

Go to Alicante. It's vile.

greendale17 · 13/01/2018 17:37

Lanzarote, Tenerife etc

BarbarianMum · 13/01/2018 17:40

Malta or Gibralta. Both like Swindon with better weather.

EdithViolet · 13/01/2018 17:40

Trump has the list of shit hole destinations if you need ideas.... laughing as I type.

It depends what you want to spend. You can find rich Brits abroad and poor ones.

Xmaspuddingdisaster · 13/01/2018 17:40

.

TellerTuesday4EVA · 13/01/2018 17:45

Definitely Salou or Benidorm. Everywhere you go on holiday has its fair share it'll pissheads but presumably with a 1 year old you won't be frequenting the pubs & clubs or staying out late enough for the party animals. The short flight time & beaches sell them both for me

BusyBeez99 · 13/01/2018 17:46

Salou fits this perfectly

Branleuse · 13/01/2018 17:46

We all know that when people say Brits abroad, they mean the working class @EdithViolet , they dont mean rich british people.

Brits are all over the damn world.

When ive read threads about peoples worst holidays. I often hear Tunisia mentioned

BarbaraofSevillle · 13/01/2018 17:49

What aspect of 'Brits Abroad' does he want? English breakfasts? English speaking waiters etc?

Nearly all the places suggested here have nice authentic sides as well as 'All Day English Breakfast with Real British Bacon And Sausages Not That Crappy Spanish Stuff for 5 Euro', even Tenerife, Lanzarote, Benidorm etc, so you'd still be at risk at ending up somewhere that was more tapas than Tetleys if you didn't choose carefully.

May09Bump · 13/01/2018 17:49

cala d'or one side horrid - all you can eat fish and chips etc, other nice -marina various beaches and nice day trips into the mountains or palma.

Xmaspuddingdisaster · 13/01/2018 17:50

I’m going to spend the night pouring over google maps and the First Choice website now...

TalkinPeace · 13/01/2018 17:52

Mallorca - we stayed on the East coast and it was lovely and mixed to make all types happy

I hated Malta because of the illegal slaughter of birds

LaughingLlama · 13/01/2018 17:54

Sunny Beach.

Aebj · 13/01/2018 17:56

Gibraltar is good

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 13/01/2018 17:56

Gibraltar! Nice mix of British and Spanish. Most people speak English and they use the Gibraltan pound (or Euro) as currency. You can get amazing tapas, sangria etc, they can have a great spoon.

Boysarebackintown · 13/01/2018 17:57

Mallorca or Menorca - short flight and family friendly. I recommend Porta Pollensa on Mallorca, reasonably good beaches, not over busy.

BestIsWest · 13/01/2018 17:57

My parents who are 80 liked Benalmadena a lot.
They also liked
Palma Nova, Puerto Pollensa and Alvor.

Flat seems to be a key requirement (though I don’t think Alvor is particularly flat).

BitchQueen90 · 13/01/2018 17:57

I'm going to Malta in the summer. Never been before. I was under the impression it was nice. Confused

Mountainpika · 13/01/2018 17:58

I know the ideal person to ask about places that fit the thread title. He can give you a very long list of them.

Donald Trump.

BestIsWest · 13/01/2018 17:59

What about a med cruise OP? This is my parents favourite thing these days. They like Tui for cruises.

Branleuse · 13/01/2018 18:02

@BitchQueen90 its one of my favourite places in the world, but people are divided on the issue. I hope you love it as much as I do.

shardav · 13/01/2018 18:04

BitchQueen90

Where in Malta are you going to?

I've been to Malta 17 times and have only ever had ONE bad holiday there.

Doobigetta · 13/01/2018 18:07

Why does it have to be somewhere shit? What wouldn't he like about your idea of a good holiday?

Frouby · 13/01/2018 18:07

We went to Benidorm about 8 years ago with FIL. we stayed just outside (short bus ride away) in a place called something like La Calla Finstrat. The place we stayed was ok. Little beach, few pubs and restaurants and shops. Fairly quiet too. Full of ex pats. Fil (and mil when she was alive) loved it.

Alcudia is also very brits abroad and only a couple of hours flight away but the transfer was a bit longer, about an hour I think.
