Ok, I was probably over exaggerating (a little)

We need to take FIL away on hols. It needs to be sunny, short haul and somewhere very "Brits abroad" but not horrific as we have a 1 year old.

I thought costa brava might have nailed it but looking into it is that the nice costa? Do I need costa Blanca instead?

Calpe i we went there for a family wedding a couple of years ago having never been that part of Spain before . (and TBH I was a bit snooty about it beforehand actually). It was really nice.. we stayed in Ifach hotel . Easy bus ride from Alicante airport

Notinmybackyard · 13/01/2018 15:43

Malta is also a 3+ hours flight

extinctspecies · 13/01/2018 15:44

Ibiza.

WhyOhWine · 13/01/2018 15:44

We have been to Javea which is same coast as Benidorm. It had nice beach and quite a lot of life about it without being OTT. We drove past Benidorm and could not believe how built up it was. You could do a day trip from javea if you wanted. There is another resort between the 2 (between the two both in location and level of built up ness) but can’t remember what it is called.

Alcudia in Mallorca could work.

WhyOhWine · 13/01/2018 15:45

Calpe, that’s it.

LIZS · 13/01/2018 15:48

Majorca, there are several coastal resorts less than half an hour from Palma airport

Bluelady · 13/01/2018 15:49

Malta is approx 2hrs, 50 mins.

Zolabudder · 13/01/2018 15:50

Costa De Sol (Fuengirola/Benalmadena) etc is very Brits abroad

katycb · 13/01/2018 15:56

My in laws have an apartment in nerja which is the nice bit of the Costa del sol. Really nice and child friendly but lots of English stuff too. Loads of promanades with nice toddler friendly play parks etc and fairly cheap. We have been there every year since the kids were babies and love it and we are generally pretty adventurous travellers with high standards!

katycb · 13/01/2018 15:56

Also not far from malaga airport so journey easy with littleies

WhereYouLeftIt · 13/01/2018 15:59

What about Gibraltar? That's about as 'Brits abroad' as you can get - they even use £ as currency!

dramallamakarma · 13/01/2018 16:02

Another vote for salou, the transfer isn't far either if you fly into reus.

DonutChamp · 13/01/2018 16:03

All inclusive holiday to Spain

Branleuse · 13/01/2018 16:05

Malta has lots of old people in the winter, but that never bothers me. Its a year round place. Its a very easy holiday as everyone speaks english, but i wouldnt call it a shit holiday :(

pisacake · 13/01/2018 16:06

benidorm is horrible, I wouldn't go there.

calpe is better but it's not brits abroad at all, it's full of germans.

you really do need to go to tenerife, costa adeje, flight ain't that bad.

otherwise gibraltar possibly tho, or erm malta

Sleepyblueocean · 13/01/2018 16:09

Nerja

Tweety2067 · 13/01/2018 16:24

Go to Benidorm - it's great. Plus a short flight time.

Branleuse · 13/01/2018 16:26

ive had some lovely holidays in some of these places, especially if you go off the beaten track, have felt very lucky and would go back. Not everyone can afford exotic locations, and calling them shit holidays is very snobby

Annabelle4 · 13/01/2018 16:28

I've heard great things about Nerja and Malta Confused

MsHarry · 13/01/2018 16:32

Why does it need to be very Brits abroad?

MsHarry · 13/01/2018 16:33

Nerja is not tacky btw.

Bowerbird5 · 13/01/2018 16:35

It depends when it is for but if summertime the Channel Islands or Isles of Scilly.

We had a shit holiday in Tenerife so if you want a shit holiday go there. We would never go back. The weather was good the apartment was lovely and clean, we enjoyed the excursion to the centre and Mt. Teide but that was all. First and last time we go on a package / time share holiday. It just wasn't for us and we were relieved that we wernt on the other site. Full of British and burgers and chips.
Each to there own lots of people wouldn't like our holidays.

OuchLegoHurts · 13/01/2018 16:36

Again, Nerja is tasteful and not 'Brits abroad' at all!

LeonoraFlorence · 13/01/2018 16:37

I don't understand this. We've bad some lovely holidays in some of the places listed, as well as lovely holidays in more 'exotic' locations. We've also had less lovely holidays in a variety of locations too. In the last couple of years Jamaica, Bahamas and Dubai holidays spring to mind as less enjoyable than a recent holiday in Menorca for example.

catgirl1976 · 13/01/2018 16:38

Malta is the place if you want somewhere shitty - although Valencia was lovely, the rest was grim
