I keep hearing people saying red sauce, it's only recently I've ever heard this....jad ketchup suddenly become a dirty word?!

@SimultaneousEquation

Oddly, I'm finding "Tommy K" quite cute.
I'll personally never say it, without swallowing and choking on my own tongue, but it's not making me want to rip my ears of either

Mushroom ketchup is more like Worcester sauce, it’s not really ketchup as we know it. I have a bottle in my fridge but I’m not really sure what to do with it, although I did try it in a Bloody Mary recently and it was delicious.

I’ve heard ‘red sauce’ in Scotland but as I generally think ketchup is fucking vile I don’t really care what people call it Grin

LapdanceShoeshine · 12/01/2018 22:08

@MrsOprah

how does one not finish their ketchup, before it gets so old it explodes? I recommend increasing your intake of said red condiment!

In my case it was down to the usual ketchup user (DS2) being absent for a period. Apparently it's a regular thing but most people don't find out until it happens to them Grin

dutysuite · 12/01/2018 22:09

Ketchup here

MrsOprah · 12/01/2018 22:09

I say red sauce as most of us do, In Ireland.

It was always red sauce as a child, though if in McDonald's I will say Ketchup.

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 12/01/2018 22:10

We say the dreaded red sauce, I'm in the north west. We say brown sauce too and it has to be HP or daddies. Mayo has become white dip because of dd2

LittleMe03 · 12/01/2018 22:10

For us it's

Ketchup
Mayo
Brown sauce
Salt and vinegar GrinGrin

MrsOprah · 12/01/2018 22:11

@frieda909

I'm not so keen I'm drinking straight out the bottle, or spooning it in by the mouthful....but it's pretty good stuff in small doses.

Mrsmadevans · 12/01/2018 22:12

we always call it tomato sauce am in SE Wales here, it must be a regional thing

MrsOprah · 12/01/2018 22:13

@frieda909
However, I will conceed when there's more ketchup than there is plate, and all other food looks like it's swimming in it, then we've entered vile territory

OP posts:
cricketqueen · 12/01/2018 22:14

I call it tomato sauce. My dd calls it shake shake cause you shake it to get it out haha.

MrsOprah · 12/01/2018 22:15

I'm being to think it's haphazard rather than regional, i cant see any patterns amongst the madness

Love a bit of red sauce! (Midlands!)
One thing I do notice it on is on holiday when you ask a waiter for red sauce they look at you like you're mad and bring over some chilli sauce or something. Eventually clocked on to say "ketchup" they all laugh and say "ahh English!"
(Ps this is only for my omelette at breakfast I'm not a red sauce all day!)

frieda909 · 12/01/2018 22:16

I have no idea what happened in my childhood to make me hate it so much! I am otherwise probably the world’s least fussy eater and I would eat pretty much anything as a child, but for some reason I’ve always absolutely hated ketchup. Weird, isn’t it?

In my work canteen they have these massive vats of ketchup for people to spoon onto their chips and it almost makes me gag every time I look at them Sad

ferretygubbins · 12/01/2018 22:17

In our house it's known as 'Blob'

I'm Irish and it has always been ketchup in my area.

In Scottish takeaways the always ask if you want red sauce. Then they say "ya sattann ann?" Which means "eat in or take away?".

MrsOprah · 12/01/2018 22:19

@frieda909
Yanbu a vat of it would make it queasy too. Bottled only surely! Please!

RightOnTheEdge · 12/01/2018 22:20

My dc keep calling it ketchup sauce. It drives me mad!

It's ketchup or tomato sauce one or the other but not ketchup sauce!

PurpleDaisies · 12/01/2018 22:20

Urgh, that’s worse that “dip dip” (which is saying something!).

MrSlant · 12/01/2018 22:20

JustAnother was coming on to say Sȏs Coch!

That's red sauce/ketchup in Welsh everyone else btw. Never said red sauce until I lived in a Welsh speaking area of Wales.

alphajuliet123 · 12/01/2018 22:21

But Tommy K???????? Please desist for all of our sakes.

You think that's bad, I have a friend who calls it Tommy C. He is unable to explain what the C stands for.
