I keep hearing people saying red sauce, it's only recently I've ever heard this....jad ketchup suddenly become a dirty word?!

MrsOprah · 12/01/2018 21:51

.....because I happily say 'brown sauce'.

That's the only thing its known as, if some tells me brown sauce is code for something else, my brain may very well fall through my ears

Im sorry it's either Tommy K or tomato sauce-a* (saucer)
Dd was adamant it was saucer and not sauce when she was 2 so it stuck, u hsve even asked for saucer when we have been out ffs. 🤣🤣🤣

MrsOprah · 12/01/2018 21:53

I agree purple daisies, but other poster said tomato sauce is interchangeable with puree. It's not lol

MrsOprah Some people refer to brown sauce by its most well-known brand, HP (even if it's a different brand). Daddies is much tastier in my opinion!

PurpleDaisies · 12/01/2018 21:54

Ah, sorry-missed that!

Eminybob · 12/01/2018 21:54

If I were making bacon sandwiches I may ask “brown or red?” for sauce preference.

But I think if I’m taking about it generally it’s tomato sauce. I don’t think I ever say ketchup.

Sparklingbrook · 12/01/2018 21:55

If I sent any of our family out for tomato sauce they would return with a big bottle of Heinz. Nothing else.

Mushroom ketchup sounds revolting.

GreggsSausageRolls · 12/01/2018 21:55

DS has called mayonnaise 'white sauce' since he was about 2.5, new now 7....

It's stuck now, we have white, red, brown or Bbq sauce in this house now!

Eminybob · 12/01/2018 21:55

Ps for a bacon sandwich the correct answer is only ever “brown”

gillybeanz · 12/01/2018 21:55

It's tomato sauce for us, unless it says Ketchup on the label but I call a spade a spade and I like the word Ketchup.

steff13 · 12/01/2018 21:56

Here red sauce is marinara sauce. As opposed to Alfredo (white) sauce.

gillybeanz · 12/01/2018 21:56

Eminy

There are no words to describe the ridiculousness of your comment Grin

Eminybob · 12/01/2018 21:57

Sparkling you are correct, the only tomato sauce is Heinz and the only brown sauce is HP

MrsOprah · 12/01/2018 21:58

Lols i wont fight over correct sauce for a bacon butty.

I will fight to the deatch to see this mysterious mushroom ketchup on a tesco shelf, now I know, I can't unknow it!

As for ketchup.....we ALL know that goes in the fridge. C'mon guys

Red sauce is a Welsh thing? (Only person I ever heard it from was Welsh anyway)

LapdanceShoeshine · 12/01/2018 22:00

As for ketchup.....we ALL know that goes in the fridge. C'mon guys

Mine goes in the fridge now - since I had a bottle explode in the cupboard Shock

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 12/01/2018 22:01

Never thought about it before but we say red sauce and brown sauce.

Daddy's sauce is a euphemism.

SimultaneousEquation · 12/01/2018 22:01

Okay, I was all for peace love and acceptance when it came to people mocking “red sauce”. I didn’t mind, and was zen with the interchangeability of ketchup, tomato ketchup, tomato sauce and red sauce.

But Tommy K???????? Shock Please desist for all of our sakes.

HipNewName · 12/01/2018 22:01

My DH is from N. Ireland and says "red sauce."

I'm American and say "ketchup."

For 20 years, I thought it was a British thing to say red sauce! I learned something new today!

MrsOprah · 12/01/2018 22:01

So....now we've established and accepted my the rules. Thank guys....my work here is done Grin

OP posts:
slippermaiden · 12/01/2018 22:03

It's tomato sauce?!

StripySocksAndDocs · 12/01/2018 22:03

Don't think it's just a Welsh thing.

I've live in numerous places and heard different names for it. Struggling to recall where i heard each name though!! Think red sauce may have been Midlands too.

Tommy k was London. Can't recall hearing it from locals from anywhere else.

MrsOprah · 12/01/2018 22:03

@LapdanceShoeshine

Grin how does one not finish their ketchup, before it gets so old it explodes? I recommend increasing your intake of said red condiment!

Wowza! Lmao!

Daddies tomato ketchup was my all time favourite. I miss it!!

I can't deny I like the cheap stuff. It's tangier: higher vinegar content!!
