AIBU to be fuming at this CF and my lack of rights?! (Parking thread)

OK so I come home from taking the kids to school and when I arrive home someone is parked in my space. Not just anyone but the little black car that had 3 students in it I had seen driving in on my way out. Now normally student park in our residents only visitors bay which is annoying enough but this time they have parked in my privately owned and numbered parking space. So I cannot use it!

The council won’t do anything the police won’t do anything and even the college won’t do anything!

I honestly can’t believe the lack of rights people have on their own properties! This car is going to be in my space for at least 6 hours!

Why can’t there be some new system where people can call and report vehicles to be towed from their property at a smallish fee and then the owners of said cars have to pay the remaining fee to retrieve their cars?

good for you op!!

Mummyoflittledragon · 10/01/2018 12:28

Ha ha ha. You’re teaching them a good lesson.

DavidBowiesNumber1 · 10/01/2018 12:28

swingofthings you have a very active imagination Grin

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/01/2018 12:28

swing have you thought of a career in screenwriting for the soaps? :o

My version if it was my DC would be firstly giving them a bollocking then telling them to buy some flowers and to go and apologise and ask if person could kindly move and then reading them the riot act about showing respect and fitting into society.

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/01/2018 12:29

in fact I might not even bother with the flowers as they wont have a clue whose space they've parked in so a heartfelt apology would be the way to go.

user1495451339 · 10/01/2018 12:30

Well done. This should stop any future parking in your close. There is no where else to park except by taking a neighbour's spot so you are right to do what you are doing.

Angrybird345 · 10/01/2018 12:30

Good for you! Leave a note saying that you are happy to rent out your space at £100 per day and failure to pay will result in civil action.

IShouldntPostBut · 10/01/2018 12:35

OP? The standoff continues?

swingofthings · 10/01/2018 12:38

I'm beginning to think Swing might be the owner of the car
Ha ha, yes, and parked there as I'm off for a 2 months holiday abroad and deliberately picked OP space to give some excitement to write about!

BitOutOfPractice · 10/01/2018 12:38

Op have you spoken to the neighbour who spoke to them. What did they say?

swingofthings · 10/01/2018 12:40

swing have you thought of a career in screenwriting for the soaps? grin
You've made my day! I thought I was rubbish at imagination. I would soooooo rather do that than do my boring job.

New resolution for 2018: Spend more time on AIBU for inspiration :)

All writing in good spirit, as said, life is too short, too many horrible things happening in life to waste energy on something so trivial in the scheme of things.

MrWriter · 10/01/2018 12:43

not placing marking, just abandoning my car in someone elses space.

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/01/2018 12:43

swing good on ya :)

You know I can see the angry Dad's face in my head so you may have some talent there...

Idontdowindows · 10/01/2018 12:45

Ha ha, yes, and parked there as I'm off for a 2 months holiday abroad and deliberately picked OP space to give some excitement to write about!

Haha, that would actually be hilarious Grin

TheLuminaries · 10/01/2018 12:46

swing I don't think someone parking in your space is trivial if it is happening to you. It is easy for you to dismiss it, because you aren't being massively inconvenienced. The OP is.

You have done nothing wrong, OP, they should have politely asked you to move your car and apologised for taking your space. They didn't. This is all on them.

StickThatInYourPipe · 10/01/2018 12:49

Place marking? Me? Never!

sunandmoonshine · 10/01/2018 12:49

I am kind of leaning towards @swingofthings point of view. This could escalate, and even get to the point of the OP's car being vandalised in retaliation. Maybe today, maybe tomorrow, maybe next week, as her car will be there from now on as she lives there. They may even get wind of which flat she is in.

Maybe an overactive imagination, maybe not, but things like this do escalate and turn nasty, especially if the bolshy, pissed-off middle aged father comes around later on. You just don't know who you're messing with.

@jessebuni has the right to be pissed off, and yes, it is an inconvenience for her, and I can understand her 'blocking them in,' but why she didn't go down to the car park when she saw them there is beyond me. She could still have got her point across, and they would probably have never parked there again.

She has taken it too far IMO. Hopefully there are no repercussions.

jessebuni · 10/01/2018 12:49

Ok everyone car owner returned with a different group of friends and got one of them to knock the door. I said I would come down to talk to them but the car owner needed to actually talk to me. Sure enough he apologised loads and I just politely pointed out the signs and the number on my space then moved out of his way. No shouting or swearing necessary. I said all he needed to do was knock the door and say sorry in the first place and I would’ve moved. Thread closed I guess. I feel good that they won’t be parking in my space again at least but no doubt they will still do it to someone else.

This is beginning to develop nicely...

Morphene · 10/01/2018 12:52

oh no! anti-climatic resolution x-post.

Good work though OP!

Shadow666 · 10/01/2018 12:53

Glad it was all resolved peacefully. Hopefully you can park in peace from now on.

Ginmummy1 · 10/01/2018 12:53

Well done OP!

Idontdowindows · 10/01/2018 12:54

They got the message and probably made themselves look like fools in front of their friends too, for being too scared to knock on your door to begin with Grin

PiffleandWiffle · 10/01/2018 12:55

Bet you're gutted swingofthings!

OP stuck to her guns, was in the right & everything was resolved amicably.

Students were mildly inconvenienced & had to put their Grown Up pants on for 5 minutes - and have hopefully learned a lesson.

Everyone's a winner & no Doom & Gloom in sight.....

maddnessintheroost · 10/01/2018 12:56

Good for you OP. You were not out of order and I would do that if they were adults. The only difference I imagine is that an adult would have approached your door - having read your note - and spoken with you. So it would have been resolved sooner. Better to deal with it at this stage as you have done where you are approached contritely, then to approach them in what they might see as a confrontational manner
