We rushed out of the last thread without even a pocket handkerchief: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/a3124599-Trump-2018-Resistance-is-Never-Futile

So here's a new one, with its own

I am the very model of a Very Stable Genius.
I have a mighty button and no problems with my penius.
I have no time for television, golf or social media
Since my brain is way way better than the best encyclopedia.

I'm cutting tax, I'll build a wall, I'll take away their medicare
You can trust me 'cos I'm orange and I have the most amazing hair.
So with my total ignorance of matters heterogeneous
I am the very model of a Very Stable Genius!

Compared to other leaders, my behavior's quite unusual
My twisted tweets and pissed-on sheets have managed to amuse you all
I have to drink two-handed 'cause my fingers are the teeniest
I need a sippy-cup with the inscription "Stable Genius."

U.S. Warned Jared Kushner About Wendi Deng Murdoch

Officials said the businesswoman could be trying to further Beijing’s interests, people familiar with the matter say

www.wsj.com/amp/articles/u-s-warned-jared-kushner-about-wendi-deng-murdoch-1516052072?__twitter_impression=true

WASHINGTON—U.S. counterintelligence officials in early 2017 warned Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser, that Wendi Deng Murdoch, a prominent Chinese-American businesswoman, could be using her close friendship with Mr. Kushner and his wife, Ivanka Trump, to further the interests of the Chinese government, according to people familiar with the matter.

U.S. officials have also had concerns about a counterintelligence assessment that Ms. Murdoch was lobbying for a high-profile construction project funded by the Chinese government in Washington, D.C., one of these people said.

The project, a planned $100 million Chinese garden at the National Arboretum, was deemed a national-security risk because it included a 70-foot-tall white tower that could potentially be used for surveillance, according to people familiar with the intelligence community’s deliberations over the garden. The garden was planned on one of the higher patches of land near downtown Washington, less than 5 miles from both the Capitol and the White House.

Ms. Murdoch in 1999 married Rupert Murdoch, who is the executive chairman of News Corp, which publishes The Wall Street Journal. Mr. Murdoch filed for divorce in 2013. Ms. Murdoch still uses her married name.

The counterintelligence officials didn’t provide Mr. Kushner with details about their assessment of Ms. Murdoch, the people familiar with the interaction said. The warning was part of an effort by national-security officials to highlight to Mr. Kushner, who was new to government, the need to be careful in his dealings with people whose interests may not align with those of the U.S., the people added. Ms. Trump, who in late March announced she would take a formal White House role, wasn’t present for the counterintelligence warning. Neither Ms. Murdoch, Mr. Kushner nor Ms. Trump has been accused of any wrongdoing.

It is common for counterintelligence officials to warn senior members of a new administration about interactions with people with foreign connections, and such briefings sometimes refer to specific people, according to people familiar with the protocols.

A spokesman for Ms. Murdoch said she “has no knowledge of any FBI concerns or other intelligence agency concerns relating to her or her associations.” He added that she “has absolutely no knowledge of any garden projects funded by the Chinese government.”

A representative for Mr. Kushner and Ms. Trump described Mr. Kushner’s interaction with officials warning him about Ms. Murdoch as a “routine senior staff security briefing.” He added that Mr. Kushner “has complied with all ethics and disclosure recommendations and has played a helpful role in strengthening the U.S.-China relationship so as to help bring about a better resolution to the many issues the countries have.”

Twitter thread from Tea Pain - I don't know what his background is other than he tweets a lot and also has a book out, but he seems to understand law...

  1. QUICK THREAD on Mueller Probe
Tea Pain suspects we won't see further indictments until Mueller locks down an interview date with Trump or Trump says "No interview."

  2. Flynn's plea deal has yielded bushels of juicy fruit and allowed Mueller to go directly after Trump without spendin' another round of indictments tippin' his hand.

  3. If Trump agrees to an interview, Mueller might drop a couple of sweet plea deals from mid-sized fish right before hand to crank up the pressure on Trump, but Tea suspects Mueller will not play any card he doesn't have to till he has Trump in the hot seat.

  4. Tea believes if Mueller drops indictments before he has a firm interview date, Trump'll bolt like a yearlin' colt.

  5. If Trump says "No Interview!", expect Mueller to let go with a massive bombin' run, then subpoena Trump to appear before his Grand Jury.

  6. Mueller is a shrewd interrogator. A good interrogator exploits the weaknesses of his opponents. Trump's biggest weaknesses is his pride and his arrogance.

  7. Mueller's played so few of his cards, Trump may arrogantly believe Mueller's got nothin' on him and run his mouth more recklessly.

  8. In closin', don't interpret this period of calm as weakness on Mueller's part. It means just the opposite. Mueller has a chance to roll the President months quicker than anyone expected. Hold fast. Good things are comin' soon!

I hope all the good things people say about Mueller turn out to be right.

The difference between those headlines is stark. Shock

This juxtaposition is excellent though.

www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2017/10/the-first-white-president-ta-nehisi-coates/537909/

Halfway through it says...
'The fact of a black president seemed to insult Donald Trump personally. He has made the negation of Barack Obama’s legacy the foundation of his own.'

Basically... Trump would never have happened without Obama.

I love ta nehisi Coates. I was so sad when Cornell west wrote a disparaging article about him (in the sodding guardian, of all places) and the backlash Coates received led him to leaving twitter.

Will Russia Investigators Crack Steve Bannon ‘Like an Egg’?

www.thedailybeast.com/will-russia-investigators-crack-steve-bannon-like-an-egg/

[...] The Daily Beast broke the news last week that he finally had to lawyer up.

That attorney, William Burck, also represents White House Counsel Don McGahn and erstwhile White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus. Burck also represented Reza Zarrab, a Turkish gold trader who pleaded guilty to charges related to his alleged effort to help Iranians launder billions of dollars worth of gas as part of a scheme to dodge U.S. sanctions. There is speculation that Zarrab also helped Special Counsel Robert Mueller build a case against retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn.

The House Intel Committee still hasn't released the transcript of Glenn Simpson's November interview, despite calls to do so from @RepAdamSchiff & Fusion GPS. No signs that Nunes, who's called for more transparency from Fusion, plans to make it public.

amp.businessinsider.com/house-democrats-fusion-gps-want-nunes-to-release-interview-transcript-2018-1?__twitter_impression=true

Note: Unlike Feinstein, Schiff does not have the unilateral authority to release interview transcripts under committee and House rules. Dems would need Republicans’ consent to make the transcripts public.
Another note: There are signs the House interview covered things that the Senate didn’t, such as Deutsche Bank. Simpson said in his op-ed that he encouraged lawmakers to look into Trump’s ties to DB. It didn’t come up in the Senate interview, so by process of elimination...

Hope Hicks expected to talk to Hill committee

edition.cnn.com/2018/01/15/politics/hope-hicks-congress-testify/index.html

Communications Director Hope Hicks is expected to meet with the House Intelligence Committee as soon as this week, making her one of President Donald Trump's closest confidantes to be privately interviewed in the panel's Russia investigation, multiple sources with knowledge of the matter told CNN.

Hicks, a trusted Trump aide for years, was one of then-candidate Trump's first hires as he put together an improbable run for the White House. During the campaign, she was often by Trump's side and attended nearly every rally, while she was in frequent communication with other senior officials as they plotted their tactics to win the White House.

The House panel plans to interview her about any knowledge she has of contacts that occurred between other Trump associates and Russians. And she is bound to be questioned about other controversies as well, namely the White House's involvement in crafting a misleading response last summer once a June 2016 meeting between Russians and Donald Trump Jr. was revealed in the press.

The meeting is expected to occur as soon as Friday, the sources said.

Denmark will increase defense spending to counter Russia: PM

mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/idUSKBN1F42LT?__twitter_impression=true

(Reuters) - The Danish government expects to win backing for a substantial increase in defense spending next month, to counter Russia's intensified military activity in eastern and northern Europe, the NATO-member's prime minister said Monday.

Denmark last week deployed 200 troops to a UK-led NATO mission in Estonia aimed at deterring Russia from attacking the Baltic NATO members.
