We rushed out of the last thread without even a pocket handkerchief: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/a3124599-Trump-2018-Resistance-is-Never-Futile

So here's a new one, with its own

I am the very model of a Very Stable Genius.
I have a mighty button and no problems with my penius.
I have no time for television, golf or social media
Since my brain is way way better than the best encyclopedia.

I'm cutting tax, I'll build a wall, I'll take away their medicare
You can trust me 'cos I'm orange and I have the most amazing hair.
So with my total ignorance of matters heterogeneous
I am the very model of a Very Stable Genius!

Compared to other leaders, my behavior's quite unusual
My twisted tweets and pissed-on sheets have managed to amuse you all
I have to drink two-handed 'cause my fingers are the teeniest
I need a sippy-cup with the inscription "Stable Genius."

They can't find a way though.........

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 15/01/2018 16:53

If you mean the “evil genius”, no they let not going ahead with it but th y haven’t shown much concern for life after trump and this is quite a desperate measure for future proofing against democratic power.

If you didn’t mean that, then ignore me Grin

GingerIvy · 15/01/2018 17:07

I am waiting... they're not taking the Russian hacking thing seriously at present, but I'm expecting them to suddenly "take it seriously" and try to push through laws that delay the midterms for another year or two "until they can get a handle on this Russian hacking the vote" issue. They'll use it to their advantage, then say "oh no, it seems it wasn't an issue" once they've completed their tactical manipulating.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 15/01/2018 17:19

Don’t get me wrong, there are far more signs of them being confident they don’t need to try and be popular (see: standing by trump, all policy decisions, blatant corruption etc) but they haven’t really done much that indicates they are anticipating a reversal in fortune and that’s why this seemed noteworthy.

Given that even if trump is found to have colluded by mueller, the aftermath probably wouldn’t include gorsuch being taken off the Supreme Court (although who can say for sure), I think they’d be more likely to heavily suppress votes/gerrymander than do something so constitutionally Unheard of such as delaying elections (though again, I don’t think there’s a precedent for that though I might be wrong). I know trump and co don’t care for precedents or what’s acceptable but it seems too far a bridge to cross for me.

GingerIvy · 15/01/2018 17:24

Frustratingly, a lot of things they have done are too far a bridge to cross... and yet, they have... mainly because of GOP support.

Today was the third straight day of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday weekend that President Trump spent golfing at one of his Trump brand golf courses

but they haven’t really done much that indicates they are anticipating a reversal in fortune

Apart from all the Republicans suddenly retiring. I don't think all of them are of one mind on this. I think some see the writing on the wall and are jumping ship, some think they can do some dodgy deals and work it all out, a reasonable proportion I suspect are simply in full on denial about the severity of the situation.

"one day there will be a Donald Trump Day."

Maybe... as in a Guy Fawkes day?
People celebrate his impeachment and burn his effigy.

There's an old quote.

"I am in blood stepped in so far, that should I wade no more, returning were as tedious as go o'er."

Not sure if this has been noted here, but it's really bad.

www.npr.org/2018/01/14/577639518/house-gop-to-debate-bringing-earmarks-back

Basically I think it's a big part of the GOP/Scrotus 'end game' of setting things up for themselves and their fat-cat friends to gobble at the public trough once they're out of power. It would also cut small, female, and minority business owners out of publicly funded projects thereby denying them the chance to grow their businesses. Another way to keep white rich men people in power.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 15/01/2018 19:23

In for a Pency, in for a pound. Yes, there isn’t a hive mind and I’m sure the ones that are covering the hardest are the ones that will be the ones to eventually go down with the ship because where else is there for them to go apart from to mueller with hopes of a plea deal

It’s the others who have been complicit so far but haven’t risked everything that can still bail out and possibly abort this mission. Whether they get to that point before nuclear war/there’s nothing to save is another matter I suppose.

I probably shouldn’t but I find it heartening that for all of Lindsey Graham’s recent brown nosing, he’s standing by his account of what he heard re shithole/shithouse, albeit obliquely. I know it doesn’t translate into finding a backbone and impeaching trump/not shutting down mueller but the eternal Pollyanna in me can’t help but hope.

cozietoesie · 15/01/2018 19:39

I saw that argument, Across. I don't 'think' they have time.

(I'm hoping anyway.)

Buzzfeed usually do good stuff on the Russia related deaths. Worth keeping and eye out to see if they pick this one up.
