AIBU to rage at knicker gussets - or is it me? (lighthearted!)

First off, by knicker gussets I mean the double fabric bit that covers your under-carriage. And I've always presumed it has the cottony bit to be kind to your delicate areas and catch the odd drop of fanny juice that may leak out.

Well, my anatomy seems to be that anything liquid that you'd want to be caught in your knickers winds its way through all my labia, to exit at the front. This means it misses the gusset and hits the flimsy fabric - so it's visible. Is that just me it happens to? Am I an outlier, or have all knicker manufacturers got womens' anatomy wrong for all this time?

While this has never been a significant problem up to now, aside from careful positioning of sanitary towels during periods, it's now an issue thanks to peri-menopoause causing my fanny to get quite runny. I really don't want to have to wear panty liners every single day (hot and itchy), but I do because otherwise I'll be washing knickers AND trousers every day and I generally get a 2-3 days wear out of my trousers.

Anyone else? Blush

Diary Doll aren't the ones for' volume' (are those ones called Thinx or something) they are just for extra protection. They have no gusset to miss. Grin

Diary Doll, what a shit brandname!

I'm like you OP, and many others. Just thought i had a weird funnel fadge.

I made my own liners etc as i'm a whizz on the sewing machine and i had to do something about my mountainous fabric stash and they make a hell of a difference.

picklemepopcorn · 07/01/2018 18:38

I love fabric pads. You can get thin ones, they save all the chaffing, dampness etc. Great.

littlebrownbag · 07/01/2018 18:39

10 quid a pair at Boots!! I'm usually get a multi-pack for that from M&S!

they do my size, but I don't find that low style very comfortable around my lumpy hips, I usually wear a hi-leg style. Maybe Sloggi big pants are the way to go for me, embrace my inner Bridget Jones.

Ha. I just assumed it was sweat. Am relieved to hear I am as normal as the next Munsnetter.

blueshoes · 07/01/2018 18:40

This only happens to me a little but the gusset is by and large where it needs to be.

Is weight as much a factor as anatomy?

Sinistrophobia · 07/01/2018 18:42

And me Blush

paxillin · 07/01/2018 18:43

Find a brand and size that fits you (you probably have some knickers that work), buy only those. M&S cotton short style for me, 5 pack for £7. I have very few others.

RJnomore1 · 07/01/2018 18:44

Wow I have a retroverted uterus and I thought perhaps that was why I had to wear pads practically at my belly button!

daisychain01 · 07/01/2018 18:44

Star this has to be the over-sharing thread of the Year (OK only 6 days into 2018). Just wanted to give you your award early OP so you can bask in the glory Grin

My gussets are all shapes and sizes - I don't wear my best Elle Macphersons to go running, let's put it that way lol

Yes, and your M&S ones aren't doing their job. Grin I use the Diary Dolls for extra protection during my period and they have saved me a few times.

CeciliaBartolli · 07/01/2018 18:48

The gushing does stop.Eventuallly. But meantime you can wear two panty liners end to end... even when I had periods I used have frontal splurges. Also I carry spare knickers if needed.

AdoraBell · 07/01/2018 18:49

Me too. I reckon whoever designed women’s underwear didn’t know much about women’s anatomy.

Snowysky20009 · 07/01/2018 18:51

Me too with the positioning of a towel- thought I was odd!

ButtonLoon · 07/01/2018 18:52

Yes to the guessets being too far back! The only pair I have with the gusset in the "correct" place is a pair I made myself.

If you look at a pair of pants, they don't account for the bum size, the front and back are the same length. I suspect those whose gusset hits the right spot are more balanced, either a small bum or large tum!

IlPorcupinoNilSodomyEst · 07/01/2018 18:53

Pardon me OP but do you not stick a tissue up there the night before to cope with the morning after dribblingness? I've always done that with no problems.

Sorry for the graphic description!

Snowysky20009 · 07/01/2018 18:58

A tissue up there??? Wtf PP?????

pollythedolly · 07/01/2018 18:59

I don't have this problem. What's wrong with me?

Gusset does need to be far enough back too for skid marks. No? 🤔

Glitterspy · 07/01/2018 19:01

Those period pants are great. Why not just call them Period Pants tho that would have been more catchy

Xanadu46 · 07/01/2018 19:01

Yep, me too!

Glitterspy · 07/01/2018 19:03

Doesn't the tissue get soggy and stuck and go into bits? Confused

IlPorcupinoNilSodomyEst · 07/01/2018 19:06

No it soaks everything up then you dispose of it later/ next morning... may not suit everyone's foof I suppose but has suited mine for 30 years!

NotTheFordType · 07/01/2018 19:07

@IlPorcupinoNilSodomyEst

for the love of fuck, no! no no no, you are sending an open invitation to thrush, BV and god knows what else.

If you want to stop semen (or anything else) from leaking overnight then use something designed to do that - a tampon, knickers and a paid, a sponge, a mooncup. There's plenty of choice!
