Everything else is down except the white fairy lights in the kitchen, round the French doors to the garden. Thinking of leaving g them up permanently as they are so pretty, Aibu?

Got some over our living room chimney breast and they are great Smile

Do it!

TossDaily · 05/01/2018 17:58

I left mine up on the mantelpiece last year. They're still there.

mirime · 05/01/2018 17:58

We've had some up round the French doors for years, and are leaving some star shaped lights up this year as part of negotiations with DS to reduce the upset about the tree coming down.

SouthWestmom · 05/01/2018 18:02

I leave a decoration up each year as a superstition - to make sure next year comes with us all here. Wish I'd left fairy lights and not a tiny train!

vapourtrail · 05/01/2018 18:05

What is this? Two pages in and everyone agreeing that YANBU? I think that deserves some kind of Mumsnet Reassuringly Reasonable Award Glitterball (this was all I could find)

Velvetbee · 05/01/2018 18:06

We have them round our kitchen window all year it's very cheery.

CandyCaneBeanieBoo · 05/01/2018 18:07

I'm leaving 2 sets up and DDS also have there's up all year round. I love them.

incorruptibledream · 05/01/2018 18:07

Mine have been up since 2012. No intention of ever taking them down.

TheExecutionersBong · 05/01/2018 18:07

Everyone gets a Star for agreeing nicely

Lana1234 · 05/01/2018 18:08

Left a set up around a big mirror in the living room. Also leaving out the fibre optic twig things (don't know what they are called but they are pretty Grin) it really brightens the place up!

StealthNinjaMum · 05/01/2018 18:11

Could I be cheeky and ask for some photos?

MsHomeSlice · 05/01/2018 18:12

I am always buying fairylights! I love them!

DD has a wicker star set round her bed head, I have some fake mini lightbulb ones on the bed posts and I shall be repurposing the ones from the Adventcrown to go round the dining room mirror....they are on a timer too, so they just switch themselves on and off until the batteries run out!

megletthesecond · 05/01/2018 18:13

Yanbu.

I have some solar fairy lights I keep in the garden. Been meaning to get some for the house for ages.

LyannaStarktheWolfMaid · 05/01/2018 18:14

DNU. I have two sets up in my house (one in the office, one inside a lantern in the front room). Thinking of adding some in DDs room also. Tiny twinkly lights, what’s not to like?!

Frouby · 05/01/2018 18:14

I am also keeping my eye out for a white set for around the bookcase. Yanbu.

TheOtherGirl · 05/01/2018 18:15

I love them and always have some up in the kitchen.

This year I've got some tiny white lights on 'invisible' wire that are soooo delicate and pretty and today I've strung them along our mantle piece, along with candles and eucalyptus stems. They look fantastic Smile

peachgreen · 05/01/2018 18:15

Ugh, year-round fairy lights are SO tacky...

... KIDDING, I just couldn't believe we had a unanimous AIBU thread! Wink I have a copper wire set round my big hall mirror, entwined through a lovely bamboo tree in the conservatory, a floral set round my bedroom mirror and four sets of Cable and Cotton lights in my fireplace, over the headboard, around the nursery window and in the conservatory. Brightens the place up no end!

Mrscog · 05/01/2018 18:16

Yeah definitely - I’m keeping my door wreath up too because it still looks glorious and it adds ‘winter charm’

WoodenRainbow · 05/01/2018 18:18

Here too! I have 8 sets up around the house permanently. I love twinkly lights. Really nice throughout the winter to keep the dark at bay.

Fairy lights are not just for Christmas!!

RaeCJ82 · 05/01/2018 18:19

YANBU, I have lights up round both fireplaces all year round. They look pretty and cheer me up.

Whitecovers · 05/01/2018 18:20

I have some dangling from my hallway ceiling, and some little copper wire ones round a cactus.

SueSueDonahue · 05/01/2018 18:20

It's still christmastide until
candlemass on the 2nd February!

Go for it.

RaeCJ82 · 05/01/2018 18:21

Ooh and a set of really pretty butterfly lights in my bedroom. I forgot about them. I also have some wicker heart ones for DD's room, but haven't got round to putting them up yet.

Coloursthatweremyjoy · 05/01/2018 18:22

I have fairy lights in my conservatory, they were never Christmas ones though I just like them. We also have a string of solar ones in there that are getting nowhere near enough light and flash on and off in the evening randomly...this is freaking DS out as he has just watched Stranger Things.

DS is keeping some Christmas fairy lights in his bedroom window because he liked them so much. (Thankfully not flashing Grin )

EatsFartsAndLeaves · 05/01/2018 18:25

One light in the middle of the ceiling is silly especially in a kitchen where you spend a lot of time working at a counter top facing a wall with the central light on your back.

LED fairy lights use very little energy, they look twinkly round the edge of the ceiling, you can bunch them up in areas you need more light, they go under the high kitchen cupboards to light the work surfaces properly, and if you leave them up all year it saves loads of time decorating for xmas every December.

I've had 500 warm white with a white cable in a big loop right round my kitchen for years. They are "outdoor" ones so can be cleaned, and they have 8 settings including a strobe effect that my 2 year old finds very funny.

OP YABU, you need a lot more fairy lights than that! Grin
