Everything else is down except the white fairy lights in the kitchen, round the French doors to the garden. Thinking of leaving g them up permanently as they are so pretty, Aibu?

I have loads of different types of fairy lights. I go with battery operated ones. Use them instead of the main light in the evenings.

VanillaSugar · 05/01/2018 21:02

I left mine up in my kitchen during 2017 and it was a bit of a shit year. I've taken the lot down now and things have happened in the last 5 days to finally show my luck's changed. Could be coincidence. Could be not.

MaMisled · 05/01/2018 21:03

I left some up 3 years ago and they're still there.

MycatsaPirate · 05/01/2018 21:05

We have three sets up all year round because it's a fucking faff putting them up. Two sets in the conservatory and one in the living room. Mainly the ones in the conservatory go on in the summer, we also have the sun powered fairy lights in the garden so in the evenings it looks really pretty.

Crunchymum · 05/01/2018 21:09

We tend to end up with an extra set a year left up. Currently have some soft white ones round the top of the bed from last year and some multicoloured ones in a vase, as a night-light in oldest DC room from this year.

VileyRose · 05/01/2018 22:30

I've had some up for about 3 years.

BuzzKillington · 05/01/2018 22:32

Why not?

We have lights on bay trees either side of the front door and several box bushes down the rear garden all year long.

Schlimbesserung · 05/01/2018 22:35

I find fairy lights very calming and comforting. If my cats weren't so determined to exterminate them, I'd leave them up all year round. They are just lights, they have no magical powers for either good or bad.

IrkThePurist · 05/01/2018 22:37

Ours stay up all year round and are actually skulls Grin

peachgreen · 05/01/2018 23:27

I think the ones on metallic wire look less Christmassy - I get mine from Lights4Fun.

I've put mine round some twigs in a vase where the tree was, it felt so dark and gloomy I wanted to brighten it up again.
Why we call them fairy lights, lovely story:

SoleBizzz · 06/01/2018 00:05

YABU it is unxmassy.

Police have been called.

PinkFluffyBlanket · 06/01/2018 00:16

I have left mine on the banister on the stairs! They look so lovely im thinking of buying more for my bedroom.

Niskasrevenge · 06/01/2018 00:45

Thanks, PPs, I shall try Wilco’s and Lights4fun. And maybe some of the less Xmassy Argos ones. ;)

My house isn’t very cosy (hard surfaces and straight lines rather than hygge) so something to soften it would be great.

IShouldntPostBut · 06/01/2018 01:36

Ours are on a dimmer! There's nothing as lovely as these softly glowing lights on a dark evening. We use them as night lights as well, just a bit of soft light to show you the way...

ChishandFips33 · 06/01/2018 01:37

Fairy lights are forever, not just for Christmas ❤️

I have a few sets around the house

gluteustothemaximus · 06/01/2018 01:41

Fairy lights are lovely.

DD has them in her room, as her quiet calm light in the evening.

I’m going to have some in our room soon, as I have just bought a bargain in Tesco! No better time to buy fairy lights than just after Christmas 😉

tracymars · 06/01/2018 01:50

YANBU fairy lights as permanent decoration are very pretty. I have visited a few friends who have this and always think I need to sort some out myself as I love how they look. Around the french doors sounds like a perfect place for them. My mum has a small glitterball hanging in front of her french doors. When the light is on it it makes a pretty pattern on the wall. I think she originally did it for Christmas and then kept it up because she liked it.

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 06/01/2018 02:06

So pleased to see I'm not the only one! !! Thought I was being a bit unreasonable in keeping 3 sets up !!! Apparently notGrin

Glitterandunicorns · 06/01/2018 02:23

Fairy lights are for life, not just for Christmas!

BastardGoDarkly · 06/01/2018 02:46

executioner that room looks cosy AF :)

I've got hanging stars in my kitchen, we're moving this week, so i don't know if I'll get away with rehanging them in the new house Hmm

echt · 06/01/2018 04:16

I have them in the garden all year round, solar (Australia).

Soubriquet · 06/01/2018 07:11

We have a set wrapped round the stair banister...and there they will stay as a nightlight for my 4 year old to find her way to the toilet at night time. We have a downstairs bathroom.

Since we've done this, she's had a dry pull up for two weeks! Now thinking about going without the pull up Grin

Trumpton · 06/01/2018 07:32

The sun room always has the ceiling zigzagged with fairy lights not sure how long I will leave the bunting up.
The kitchen has the copper star cookie cutters ( Argos have them ) along the top of the Welsh dresser .
My bedroom has a small Victorian ( blocked off ) fireplace with red berry lights wound round logs .
Fairy lights are not just for Christmas !
