AIBU to believe raping 100 women is worth more than nine years in jail?

And they wonder why people take the law into their own hands

Ereshkigal · 05/01/2018 01:27

the fact is that he raped one woman and is alleged to have raped or sexually assaulted 100 or so other women,

The fact is that he was convicted of drugging 12 women, five of whom he sexually assaulted, one he attempted to assault, and one he raped. That's six completed sexual assaults, not one. Plus drugging 12.

LakieLady · 05/01/2018 07:24

Is this actually a matter for the Justice minister? Stuff to do with "offender management" is the responsibility of the Home Secretary.

I'm going to email Amber Rudd as well as the Justice Minister. She's a woman after all, and may be a little more aware of how big an issue this is for women.

I'd like to know what level of public protection measures will be in place. There are some offenders that are practically watched 24/7, which I think is ludicrous. If they're that risky, they should be locked up imo!

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 05/01/2018 07:32

Keir Starmer apparently doesn't comment on things that happened whist he was DPP.

How convenient.

prh47bridge · 05/01/2018 07:37

The fact is that he was convicted of drugging 12 women...

I know. I have listed his exact convictions a couple of times on this thread. The point I was making is that stating he raped 100 women as fact when he has not been convicted of that may be viewed as prejudicing any chance of a fair trial.

LakieLady · 05/01/2018 07:38

Looks like Keir Starmer's not the only Labour politician to have had a hand in this ...

Does anyone know how many women were on the parole board?

AethelflaedsWhiteGoose · 05/01/2018 07:41

Signed petition.

Agerbilatemycardigan · 05/01/2018 07:54

When will this ever fucking end?!!

I feel as if I've let my daughters down. All these years of telling them that they're equal to men and that things are better now than they were when I was younger just seems like fucking so much bullshit.

How can I even look them in the eye when every time we seem to be making progress in one way, society finds another way to keep us back or to denigrate us?

"Sorry girls, no matter how good you are or how hard you work, you'll always be worth less than even the lowest, weakest, most useless males"

Fekko · 05/01/2018 07:59

It sounds as if he hasn't really 'paid his dues' as it were - the punishment here is pretty low (even for the 'lower' figure of attacks actually convicted) but for the police to say that the think he committed 100 attacked them how can the board think he is no longer a threat?

I'm assuming he hasn't confessed to the crimes that the police say they think he has carried out? So he isn't rehabilitated then - he is a liar but the police can't prove it?

Agerbilatemycardigan · 05/01/2018 08:01

.....have also signed the petition and will be getting as many people as I can involved.

Fekko · 05/01/2018 08:04

And it's bloody miracle he didn't kill one of those women (booze and drugs ffs). If he wasn't caught the odds are that he would have continues and killed as a result.

BBC article - Yvette Cooper, the shadow home secretary, is pushing for a review in parliament and for the details of the parole board decision to be made public.

WitchesHatRim · 05/01/2018 08:18

Yvette Cooper, the shadow home secretary, is pushing for a review in parliament and for the details of the parole board decision to be made public.

Is she also going to ask Starmer for his reasons as to why the alleged other crimes weren't prosecuted too?

Bindibot · 05/01/2018 08:22

Anyone watching BBC 1 at the minute...........

A soundbite about John Warboys and then an interview with a man who was falsely accused/imprisoned.

From the way they're describing it it was a false claim on the basis of messages indicating that they were in a relationship..........

And that she had messaged him after the rape.

Where as the reason from what I can see the reason it was overturned was because of police blunders, but it's being totally misrepresented as being an innocent man.

Nicely balanced there BBC HmmHmm

Why don't you e-mail her and ask, Witches if you're that interested?

The failure to prosecute for the other rapes could prove useful now. There's nothing, as far as I know, to stop him being arrested for those and tried again.

WitchesHatRim · 05/01/2018 08:37

If I'm that interested.

Everyone should be that interested!

This isn't just at the door of the parole board. There are issues with many aspects of this case.

People don't get to wriggle out of stuff because they are no longer in that role. That goes for anyone.

PricklyBall · 05/01/2018 08:44

Let's list all the mistakes, shall we?

The original police investigation cocked up multiple times. here

Starmer cocked up by not pushing enough prosecutions - that was a Labour government.

Then there'sthis : "The Metropolitan police are taking two rape survivors to the supreme court, with the backing of Theresa May, after the women won a human rights case over serious failures in the way police investigated a serial rapist." - this is being done by a Conservative government.

So basically what we can say is the whole establishment is shitting all over women from a great height - it's not a party-political issue, it's an all round failure. What's pissing me off about your posts, Witch, is your blatant attempt to turn this into a party-political issue.

WitchesHatRim · 05/01/2018 08:49

No I'm not. I have said every one should be held accountable.

I am also the survivour of a serious sexual assault of which some aspects of this case have bought flash backs.

So quite frankly leave me alone.

grins · 05/01/2018 08:55

I suspect the other alleged crimes weren't prosecuted due to lack of evidence. The problem from a prosecution perspective with the use of the drugs is that many of the victims may not even be certain they were raped. If you look at the drugs convictions he got, one presumes each one was accompanied my a sexual assault at a minimum, but there was not enough evidence to bring charges for all of them. It's a very nasty crime, precisely because of the way it was conducted and the fact the victims may not even know they are victims.

BitOutOfPractice · 05/01/2018 09:12

Apparently a fall in car sales is a more important story than the safety and wellbeing of 50% of the population, according to the BBC News website Hmm

I've messaged my useless Tory MP. He only speaks on defence issues. He's never even mentioned the name of his constituency in Parliament so I doubt he gives a shit about the concerns of half of his constituents who vote for him 5:1 against all the rest put together despite his appalling record

Goldenhandshake · 05/01/2018 09:14

Our justice system is a disgrace. Women and children do not matter, I read yesterday of a man who served only 14 fucking months for biting or using a ligature on a small child's genitals (injury so severe they are not sure which), mutilating the poor child.

How can this go on. :(

Arkangel · 05/01/2018 09:20

Not a shock.
My friends boyfriend used to rape and abuse her daily. He was caught in the act more than once, she reported it and charges were dropped over and over. He did a minimal term and then stalked her.
I'm pretty sure he does the same to his new girlfriend.

Women are worthless.

ohfortuna · 05/01/2018 09:34

He's going to be at high risk for some sort of vigilante attack isn't he?
