Smoking weed is......

LockJawTrouble · 29/12/2017 22:17

Just trying to make sense of things. Is it me or smoking weed is not normal? I am fed up of this excuse to the point, where I think I need some reconfirmation , to make sure I am not the only one thinking that.

I resent being called a sheep because I don't want to break the law.

I agree with challenging and questioning laws, but just sticking two fingers up to it is not my style.

peppapigwouldmakelovelyrashers · 05/01/2018 17:12

So you will follow any law, just because it is the law?

LoniceraJaponica · 05/01/2018 17:43

I won't deliberstely break any laws. I have broken the law in the past - and been caught.

peppapigwouldmakelovelyrashers · 05/01/2018 18:06

Even if the law was unfair or harmful to you?

Ta1kinPeace · 05/01/2018 18:09

I systematically and openly broke the law at work.
And encouraged others to do so.
We proved that the law in question was wrong and it was changed to match the reality that we had proven.
Thousands of others benefited from my action.

Should I have accepted the bad law and allowed others to continue having to do so ?

peppapigwouldmakelovelyrashers · 05/01/2018 18:11

I aid and abet others to break a bad law and fundraise to help them do it.

DeleteOrDecay · 05/01/2018 18:17

I think following a law just because it's the law is a bit sheepish.

It goes without saying that laws regarding peadophilia, rape, murder etc serve a purpose and help build a better society.

Laws prohibiting me from smoking a spliff in my own back garden where I'm hurting no one? Not so much.

In fact I'd argue that such a law causes more harm than good as it encourages a black market for the stuff.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 05/01/2018 18:27

I said that I wouldn’t drink if it were made illegal. If coffee were made illegal I wouldn’t drink that either despite the fact it’s the liquid I consume most of. There’s not much else I actually do. Work, parent, odd trip to the theatre? Illegality would stop me doing them. I’m not prepared to risk a crimial record for something that’s not actually really important, and like it or not drugs aren’t physically important at all for the majority of people who use them, they’re just a lifestyle choice in the way drinking coffee is for me.

That might be hard for you to understand, but as it stands that’s my viewpoint. Others may not do the same. That’s their prerogative. I won’t say my viewpoint is the best, or the most sensible. I can’t even say whether it would be in line with common thought. It’s just my opinion and it’s as valid as any other.

Trying to tie somebody in ‘what if’ knots to suit your agenda is childish though, I will say that.

heateallthebuns · 05/01/2018 18:32

I don't like it, don't like smoking either. Why would anyone do something so harmful to their health? Although, I understand using it for medicinal purposes, but would still think people would be better off ingesting not smoking. It just seems smoking in any form is really really bad for you and may be a cause of many (most?) cancers, cpd, heart disease etc.

I know not exercising, sugary food and alcohol affect health as well. But they seem to be ok in moderation. You have to eat and drink so an occasional unhealthy choice is not so bad. Your body is better suited to cope with swallowing bad foods into your stomach, stomach acid, kidneys, vomiting etc have all evolved to cope with that. You don't have to voluntarily inhale anything but air into your lungs.

I guess I am viewing smoking as someone with many family members who have had cancer and died, and this has been the Ines who smoked. Non smokers in my family have been ok so far.

LoniceraJaponica · 05/01/2018 18:33

I haven't come across a law thst I feel is unfair or harmful to me, so I can't answer thst question. If, for example, FGM was the law, then yes I would break it.

heateallthebuns · 05/01/2018 18:34

I also wonder if increasing infertility rates are due to mutations in the eggs of foetuses of unborn girls when their mothers smoked in pregnancy.

defineme · 05/01/2018 18:46

I dabbled in most things as a teenager and then gave up as soon as I got my professional job and hasn't even crossed my mind since I had kids. For me losing my job and embarrassing my kids isn't worth it at all...being high was pretty nice, but so are cocktails and I don't drink enough to get hangovers...
I know a couple of joints a night us no big deal and possibly better for you than a gallon of wine, but is it not a little tawdry to have your house smell of an illegal drugs when you are middle aged. My teenagers would be mortified and my mum lives with me too.
When I was a teen I never thought about the exploitation inherent in the supply of illegal drugs, but it certainly would bother me now.. Obviously I would buy it off the man at my local but somewhere down the line some poor fuckwit is risking jail time (and they probably have kids too) or even their life.
Wouldn't it be better to campaign for a change in the law whilst having a delicious cocktail?

peppapigwouldmakelovelyrashers · 05/01/2018 18:47

nothing childish and no agenda. It was a simple question, to find out more. If you object to being asked then why post at all?

Who smokes anything indoors these days? No-one I know.

Lucky you do not live in the USA where women's legal rights are being undermined left right and centre

or in fact in much of the world where that is the case.

I broke the law because it was the law was decades out of date.
Should I have just left it ?
Really ?
If everybody took that view, you would not have the right to a bank account Hmm

defineme · 05/01/2018 19:00

Ops husband smokes indoors.

Ta1kinPeace · 05/01/2018 19:08

Ops husband smokes indoors.
See I hate that now ! When DCs friends were smoking in the shower during a party I turned it on Grin
Smoke scented houses and cars are worth less

Heateallthebuns stick to the day job.... I assume it's not science related!

Snapnchat · 05/01/2018 22:22

Apologies for not having RTFT..

Nothing to do with legalities here but, I’ve lived with someone who ‘skinned up’ every morning before work, smoked at lunch, and then in the evening, EVERY day.

It is a ‘mistress’. Enticed him away from the ‘normality’ of family life (it wasn’t allowed indoors). Aside from the psychosis and paranoia/mood swings. So no, it ISN’T normal, and anyone whose SO/friend/family member has the odd social joint thinks it’s normal is deluded.

Weed etc messes with the mind. My broken family is testament to this..I defy anyone who hasn’t lived with a chronic ‘smoker’ to argue this fact.

heateallthebuns · 05/01/2018 22:42

Bauble. Nope it's not. Don't think I need a science degree to know smoking anything is bad for you. I didn't think I had to be writing a peer reviewed paper on Mumsnet to express an opinion.

I did it as a student/20-something. Not really interested now, but if a joint was going round I can’t say I wouldn’t have a quick toke. Last time was about 6 yrs ago but only a quick puff!
I know teens who are stoned every weekend, and I don’t like it as it’s not good for the developing brain, can causeMH issues, etc. and it turns you into a bit of a waster (dh was a big spliffhead in th day, before I knew him, and he could’ve done a lot better if he’d not been such a head). But on the other hand if you’re an adult and having the occasional spliff at a party, it’s not going to kill you!
So for me - occasional use at student age - ok. Excessive use at any age - not ok and can be detrimental to health and lifestyle.

pollythedolly · 07/01/2018 01:22

Yes yes the odd toke, isn't it great. Currently dealing with a long term toker, you know mood swings, paranoia, nastiness, denial and he gave this shit up years ago when we met. Permanent psychological fucking damage. So you all semi tokers get high tonight and tell me how good my fucking life is.

mommytoboo86 · 07/01/2018 01:55

I have no problem with it... it is normal round my area... hubby used to smoke it everyday never a problem (he also held down a full time job sometimes doing 12 hr days) he isn't the lazy gamer who don't want to do anything but then he has adhd so it helped him (I actually almost divorced him wen I had to live with him "straight" too hyper, could never sit for more than 5 mins, moaning he's bored and wants to go out and do something amoung other things)...it's not for me personally as I dont like how it makes me feel but I did partaken in a 1 skin every now and then when my pain had put me to the floor until my gp found the right cocktail of pain meds to keep me on my feet... but I do love the smell of it and have been known to have a sniff of my neighbour 🙈
However, it's not normal for u and u r not ok with it so I guess it depends on how much u love it partner... I wouldn't ever tolerate it being smoked in the house though the kids will be getting high!
