Smoking weed is......

LockJawTrouble · 29/12/2017 22:17

Just trying to make sense of things. Is it me or smoking weed is not normal? I am fed up of this excuse to the point, where I think I need some reconfirmation , to make sure I am not the only one thinking that.

OP posts:
Booboo2018 · 03/01/2018 10:50

Purplerain101 I could not agree more!!! The posters on here are all hypocrites

Booboo2018 · 03/01/2018 10:52

For some silly reason it’s more socially acceptable to be fat than it is to smoke pot. The former does more harm

ohfortuna · 03/01/2018 10:52

I smoked myself into a stupor every night for about 10 years, every night I rolled up a big fat spliff ....pure skunk no tobacco
Then one day I just got bored of it, I stopped
I was worried about not being able to sleep .... I had one sleepless night and then slept normally
no other problems no craving no problems giving up at all I didn't find it addictive
No withdrawal symptoms I did have more vivid dreams for a while and I found them very interesting

ohfortuna · 03/01/2018 10:57

those who use cannabis particularly at a younger age, such as around the age of 15, have a higher than average risk of developing a psychotic illness, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder
It could also be that those with a propensity for psychosis are especially attracted to using cannabis
Causation or correlation?
And if causation then in which direction does the arrow of causation point?

AreYouHigh · 03/01/2018 11:00

presumably when you buy it you're having a bit of contact with some potentially dodgy people?

Ours comes from a friend, we go to their house to get it not dodgy at all. Not everyone gets it from a backstreet dealer, although I have done in the past and it's not fun, you just want to get it and go ASAP.

If it was legal there'd be no need for people to interact with dodgy dealers who may or may not try and sell you harder drugs.

My first reaction also is that it's something a bit immature and teenager-ish to do.

This is just snobbery.

There is now sufficient evidence to show that those who use cannabis particularly at a younger age, such as around the age of 15, have a higher than average risk of developing a psychotic illness, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder."

So legalise it, slap an age restriction on it (21 would work), actually make it harder for kids and teenagers to get a hold of it. Let's face it dealers don't care how old their customers are as long as they pay up. You'll never stop under age kids getting it completely (much the same with alcohol and under age drinking) but we make it too easy in this country.

I am fat and I smoke pot, where do I standGrin

Purplerain101 · 03/01/2018 11:02

I think it’s all about tolerance levels too. Someone might be able to eat loads of junk food and never gain weight or get high cholesterol, whereas someone else might have the odd cream cake and gain a pound in weight each time. Same goes for alcohol or weed. One glass of wine or one joint might make someone feel out of control and unwell, but the majority of others might be able to consume them fairly regularly and have no long term problems at all.
For those on here (myself included) who smoke weed and feel that it’s not affecting our lives or anyone else’s lives for the worse, we shouldn’t be judged or called things like ‘pathetic’, ‘immature’ or ‘stupid’ by people who no doubt do things in their lives that we might raise an eyebrow at too. I doubt you all live teetotal lives on a diet of vegetables

Booboo2018 · 03/01/2018 11:03

AreYouHigh I am a fat pot smoker too and I love it 😂

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 03/01/2018 11:38

The fact is your a snob and just conforming to societal norms

Booboo do you want to tell me why you've chosen to chuck that particular insult at me?

Just because I said my group of friends have moved on from that scene, you've decided that I'm all of the above?

Please justify your insult or withdraw it.

snash12 · 03/01/2018 11:44

My views are only from personal experience.

For my brother, who smoked it when he was mid-teens it made him paranoid, angry, violent and finally reclusive. He now doesn't smoke it and has no MH issues.

Me and my friends when we were late teens - used to share a little bit of hash at weekends and have such a laugh. Small amounts, with friends.

An ex of my sister - smoked/smokes skunk all day everyday and is anxious, depressed, angry, violent, argumentative and can't hold a job down, can't hold on to money, etc.

Me now, and my bf, occasional use - just to chill out and I view it similarly to alcohol. Moderation is key.

I do now 😁😄

hollowtree · 03/01/2018 11:57

I loved being a stoner. But I'm a mum now and haven't smoked for years!

I had a long wooden pipe (like Gandalf) and used to sit puffing on it and reading a book. It was magical. Best hangover cure in the World too

GnomeDePlume · 03/01/2018 12:52

I eat cake, drink wine but dont use weed.

The difference is that I am not breaking the law. That matters to me whether it is a 'good' law or not.

AreYouHigh · 03/01/2018 13:16

It was once illegal to be gay.
Abortions are illegal in Ireland.
Rape within marriage was legal until fairly recently.

Just because something is 'the law' doesn't make it automatically bad. Just because something is legal doesn't make it automatically good (legal highs, anyone?).

I think I can live with breaking the law in this instance. It's highly unlikely I will get caught anyway. Police don't usually bother with people quietly using weed on their own property.

CurryWorst · 03/01/2018 13:18

It was never illegal to be gay.

CurryWorst · 03/01/2018 13:20

There is now sufficient evidence to show that those who use cannabis particularly at a younger age, such as around the age of 15, have a higher than average risk of developing a psychotic illness, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder

Correlation is not causation. Nobody yet knows whether cannabis can cause or trigger a psychotic illness or other disorder, or whether people who are going to develop such disorders are also drawn to use cannabis, possibly as self medication.

Purplerain101 · 03/01/2018 13:25

@curryworst it was illegal to be gay!

AreYouHigh · 03/01/2018 13:26

Last year was the 50th anniversary since it stopped being illegal for two men to be in a relationship in England and Wales.

Ok so not quite the same thing since it was never illegal for two women to be in a relationship. Homosexuality was definitely criminalised though.

Anyway as you were...

CurryWorst · 03/01/2018 13:27

No it was not. It was illegal to commit certain acts, it was never illegal to BE gay.

Purplerain101 · 03/01/2018 13:28

Bit pedantic but ok then...

CurryWorst · 03/01/2018 13:31

Not at all pedantic. Only certain acts were covered by the law.

malificent7 · 03/01/2018 13:36

The thing is if you eat sugar it mostly affects just you. If you smoke weed others can passively smoke...not good.

Ive been fat and ive also had weed psycosis. I can categorically say that weed psychosis was far far worse!

malificent7 · 03/01/2018 13:37

And it is very simple to determine if weed cauaes mh problems. I smoke weed...im a paranoid mess. I refrain...im fine. Its not hard.

CurryWorst · 03/01/2018 13:38

Yeah, that isn't even slightly how science works, but thanks for your input Hmm

QuizzlyBear · 03/01/2018 13:41

Normal for me - other than pregnancies I've had one or two every evening for twenty years (after the kids are asleep!). I find it an effective way to relax in the evening and I've seen a close family member experience the hell that is alcoholism so I'm not a fan of regular drinking.

AreYouHigh · 03/01/2018 13:42

The thing is if you eat sugar it mostly affects just you. If you smoke weed others can passively smoke...not good.

It doesn't have to be smoked, it can be eaten, vaped etc.
