Smoking weed is......

LockJawTrouble · 29/12/2017 22:17

Just trying to make sense of things. Is it me or smoking weed is not normal? I am fed up of this excuse to the point, where I think I need some reconfirmation , to make sure I am not the only one thinking that.

OP posts:
C0untDucku1a · 29/12/2017 22:18

It isnt acceptable to you. Thats all you need to know.

Maelstrop · 29/12/2017 22:19

Don your tin hat, OP! There seems to be a lot of people on here who do it, agree with it etc. I don’t, although I accept the argument that drinking may produce worse behaviour and that’s perfectly legal.

dinosaursandtea · 29/12/2017 22:19

If you have a strong stance against it, that’s enough. I know a handful of people - myself included - who do it sporadically, but you get to decide what you want as normal in your life.

LockJawTrouble · 29/12/2017 22:20

If you are living with someone who smokes it?

OP posts:
welshgirlwannabe · 29/12/2017 22:20

Normal. To me, in my circle of middle aged mainly professional middle class parents.

If it's not normal for you that's fine, why is it a problem?

LyannaStarktheWolfMaid · 29/12/2017 22:21

Your choice.

Blackteadrinker77 · 29/12/2017 22:21

A precursor to stronger drugs
A way to increase your chances of mental health issues
A great pain killer that should be licensed for short term use after surgery's etc or long term for chronic

It's many things, and like any else has pros and cons

IncyWincyGrownUp · 29/12/2017 22:22

It’s a normal for me. It’s something that would be a dealbreaker for me too.

Everyone gets to draw their own line it seems, because the law is apparently a grey area rather than an actual law. Who knew?

IncyWincyGrownUp · 29/12/2017 22:22

Abnormal*

Insomnibrat · 29/12/2017 22:22

I don't smoke it but I do think its illegal status should be looked at.

busyboysmum · 29/12/2017 22:22

It's as normal as cigarettes and alcohol amongst one group of people I know.

I also know a lot of mums now and they wouldn't approve so I don't mention it. I don't personally smoke it now anyway but have done in the past.

JamdaniSari · 29/12/2017 22:23

Abnormal.

RideOn · 29/12/2017 22:24

Abnormal for me and my family/ abnormal for some of my friends but normal for a few

annandale · 29/12/2017 22:27

Terrifying. The more normalised it is, the more my boy is likely to try it, and there is at least some evidence of a link to triggering schizophrenia in those with a genetic susceptibility, which he has.

AuntLydia · 29/12/2017 22:27

It's not been normal for me since I was a footloose and fancy free 20 something. I was a heavy pot smoker and it sapped my energy and motivation. I found it addictive and spent too much money on it. Given the effect it had on me it would be totally irresponsible for me to take it up again as a mum with responsibilities. How does it effect your DH op?

Fishfingersandwichnocheese · 29/12/2017 22:29

For me it would depend on how much and how often.

But if you feel differently that’s also ok. It might help if you gave us some context as to why you’re asking ?

Wolfiefan · 29/12/2017 22:30

Illegal and a worrying habit (links to MH issues)

AnonEvent · 29/12/2017 22:32

I know loads of people who do (largely middle class, middle aged, professional types), I personally don’t.

I did in my youth (alongside with a veritable cacophony of club drugs), but sometime in my mid-20’s I realised how much more I got done with a clear head, and started to like to feel in control of myself and my faculties.

blackbunny · 29/12/2017 22:32

My twopennorth for what it's worth.

It's in danger of being "normalised" like alcohol and tobacco, which I believe is a slippery slope. It's illegal whatever your opinion, and if you pick and choose which law you'd like to uphold, that's also a slippery slope. Get the law changed by the usual ways if you feel strongly.
The pain relief argument-if the doctors thought it was that effective, wouldn't they be. campaigning to be allowed to prescribe it legally?

JezzaNotTrezza · 29/12/2017 22:34

Illegal and pongy, not a good look once you are in midlife with DCs Sad

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 29/12/2017 22:34

Many people I know have tried it at some point. I've seen it undo two people close to me though - it's not benign at all for some people.

I think that it exacerbates/causes MH issues in some people.

I wouldn't want anyone smoking weed anywhere near my children.

I strongly dislike the effect it can have on some people.

Normal. To me, in my circle of middle aged mainly professional middle class parents

Odd isn't it? I'd describe my circle as the same, but no-one does (now). It all petered out in our 20's/early 30's for most of us.

Something you do when you're young, a bit 'sad' if you're still at it past 25ish.

19lottie82 · 29/12/2017 22:36

I know lots of people smoke it ranging from a couple of times at a party, to every day.
I wouldn’t say it’s abnormal.

If you have an issue with someone smoking it, I wouldn’t say if it’s “normal” or not, is the issue, the issue is if it’s having a negative effect on their life which knocks on to your life?

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 29/12/2017 22:37

Not something I would do. I have tried it once (accidentally, thought it was just a tobacco rollie) and it made me really sick. Plus my skanky neighbours sit literally on my doorstep to smoke it and the stench permeates my house, so I loathe it.

It's up to individuals if they want to partake, but I would be disappointed in my DS if he took up the habit. DH was quite interested in the recent TV programme about it being effective as an analgesic for arthritis, but has never tried it and considers it to be wrong because it's illegal.
