Smoking weed is......

LockJawTrouble · 29/12/2017 22:17

Just trying to make sense of things. Is it me or smoking weed is not normal? I am fed up of this excuse to the point, where I think I need some reconfirmation , to make sure I am not the only one thinking that.

One of the reasons for ending my marriage. It ended up being the first thing he did in the morning and then periodically through the day. He was edgy when out and always wanted to leave early on days out so he could smoke. He had no motivation and was very boring to be around. Our family life suffered because I just ended up doing stuff on my own with the kids, which ended up being much more enjoyable than spending time with him. His work suffered because he was so unmotivated. I would never be with somebody who smokes weed again.

RebeccaWrongDaily · 29/12/2017 23:17

not really bothered one way or the other. I have friends who smoke regularly (and are definitely middle class, middle aged, professionals)
my best friend smokes daily. I find it pretty dull tbh, but very occasionally get stoned and enjoy the sensation. meh.

Just left a party, the blokes went out for a smoke - a GP, a lecturer, a teacher, an engineer, a journo and some computer guys x 2 (don't really know what they do but it's to do with computers) it's very common in my circles.
I couldn't live with a stoner, and would LTB if my DH smoked often.

AcrossthePond55 · 29/12/2017 23:20

...legal where I live and regulated similarly to alcohol.

I don't have a problem with weed nor with alcohol in moderation. But I wouldn't live with either an alcoholic or a weed addict.

FithColumnist · 29/12/2017 23:27

I don't do it myself - it makes me rather ill. DH used to, but had to go cold turkey in order to qualify for his therapy course, and tbh he says he feels better off it. A few people in my circle of friends do it, age ranging from 40 to 50-odd, but only "recreationally".

Ethically speaking, I'm all for people putting whatever they want in their bodies but I find the production and supply side of weed consumption particularly dubious.

LockJawTrouble · 29/12/2017 23:29

I am a glad majority of people agree with me. I am living with an addict who has got major psychological problem. Rather than trying to work towards solving it, he comes up with batshit logic of " being true to himself".

When I was younger everyone (including me) seemed to smoke weed...it wasn't very strong back in the day so was a bit like having a couple of gins. Now I'm old it's not the norm and if I smoked the stronger stuff that's around I'd be hospitalised....or at least comatose Grin My adult kids occasionally indulge apparently

The worst thing about weed now is the smell - horrible all pervading sticks to the air lingering yuk

WorraLiberty · 29/12/2017 23:31

Do the majority agree with you that it's not normal?

I thought it was a pretty even split?

Either way, all that matters here is what you think OP.

CanIBuffalo · 29/12/2017 23:33

In my family, smoking it would be like playing Russian Roulette, sadly.

DenPerry · 29/12/2017 23:33

Normal and should be fully legalised. Far better than cigarettes or alcohol.

LockJawTrouble · 29/12/2017 23:34

Worralloberty.... I am not saying about accepting weed I take as being normal or not. Most posters agreed that they would live with an addict or user

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/12/2017 23:34

It's not the substance, it's the behaviour.

Gambling, dieting, religion, almost anything can cause massive issues with no 'substance'. It's the addiction, how it affects relationships, how it affects behaviour. I'm no fan of marijuana but plenty of people smoke it in moderation with very few ill effects.

He clearly has an issue and so do you with his behaviour. What do you want to do about it?

LockJawTrouble · 29/12/2017 23:34

Wouldn't *

All the people who we know smoked it at college, university and travelling. Stopped when they entered the real world of jobs and dc. Even the prolific ones.
By 30 years old latest diet and health had took precedence for most.
Teenagers around here smoke it plenty thinking they are discoverers of something wild and exciting- circle of life.

RestingGrinchFace · 29/12/2017 23:35

For stupid and/or boring people. I tried it once, it was a complete waste of time. Four hours of my life I will never get back. Only a complete moron would regularly break the law (not to mention spend all that money) for weed.

EverAfterly · 29/12/2017 23:36

I smoked weed in my teens and 20s. Haven’t touched it in 15 years or so because it started to interfere with my life - low mood, depression, paranoia and lack of motivation.

Honestly? It’s legal status doesn’t bother me. I view it like alcohol. A couple of glasses/joints on a Friday night is one thing. Dependency or of it starts to negatively affect the life of the user or their family? Stop it. No difference.

If it’s a problem for your life, it’s a problem. No matter what anyone else thinks.

crazycatgal · 29/12/2017 23:37

A waste of money. One of my old house mates who we lived with (not through choice) used to smoke it in the house and one time we caught her going out and driving after smoking a load in her room. Utter twat.

BalthazarImpresario · 29/12/2017 23:38

Not as worrying as alcohol which if introduced today would fall into the category of a class A drug due to it's ease of absolving, cost and addictiveness/impact on the body/mental health etc.

BalthazarImpresario · 29/12/2017 23:38

Availability not absolving

WorraLiberty · 29/12/2017 23:39

The police aren't bothered about weed smokers around here as long as they're not bothering anyone else.

They confiscate it and don't even bother with a caution. It's not worth the paperwork when they're so overstretched.

Besides, many of them will probably smoke a joint or two when they're off duty. I can think of at least 3 who do.

19lottie82 · 29/12/2017 23:39

For stupid and/or boring people

Wow? But a bit of a snap judgement, no?

I don’t smoke it myself but I know plenty of people who certainly aren’t stupid or boring!
Including one of my best friends who is one of the most interesting people I know, plays in a jazz band and has a PHD in a chemical physics!

The Beatles smoked shit loads of it..... were they stupid and boring? Or were the considered to be one of the musical greats of their generation?

foodfrax · 29/12/2017 23:40

... something people with half a brain cell do.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 29/12/2017 23:41

It’s a recreational drug . I can’t see it as being more harmful than alcohol personally

WorraLiberty · 29/12/2017 23:42

lottie, Grinch seems to be a bit errr....shall we say 'dramatic' in her posting style, so I wouldn't get too riled up about it.

She came out with a classic yesterday and it's bugging me that I can't remember what it was. The thread's no longer there either Grin

foodfrax · 29/12/2017 23:44

But I honestly don’t know anyone who smokes it (unless they do it secretly), to be honest I can only think of one person who even smokes cigarettes.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 29/12/2017 23:44

Personally - something I've used in minute amounts between 15-25. We used to have a little smoke after a night out. Using it as the main substance seems really weird to me always has.

Agree with lots of posters that it's a bit tragic over 30 - like wearing tie tue and traveller beads.

Professionally - a safeguarding issue not unlike alcohol.

But he's being true to himself......dude.
