To ask how long you’ve known your longest/oldest friend?

TabbyTigger · 25/12/2017 12:23

I’m away with friends who we go away with every Christmas and summer, and they’re friends I’ve had since I was literally a baby. We’ve never thought twice about it but it turns out all our DPs/DHs/DWs think it’s impressive/bizarre!

So I’m now just curious - how long have you known your longest running friend?

Since we were 4. She is the most wonderful person.

RavingRoo · 25/12/2017 12:26

Known her since primary school but friends since 5 or 6 years ago

lunatune · 25/12/2017 12:28

I've known mine since high school so 23 years, she's the only one that I've known that long though all my other friends are through work/school etc

lunatune · 25/12/2017 12:29

My children's school.

AnnieOH1 · 25/12/2017 12:30

Closest friend since we were 16, oldest friend since we were 4/5. :)

ColdTeddy · 25/12/2017 12:31

I've known her for over 20 years but she's only been my closest friend for the past 16 years.

Calic0 · 25/12/2017 12:31

My oldest friend and I have known each other since Reception class at primary school. We used to make up dance routines to Madonna’s The Immaculate Collection! GrinBlush

harrietm87 · 25/12/2017 12:31

Still in touch with lots of school friends (like 15 but v close to 5) from when I was 13, so 17 years!

Fadingmemory · 25/12/2017 12:32

Almost 55 years!

LidlAngel · 25/12/2017 12:34

Ive known mine for 40 years. She was the 'new girl' in my infants school class and was put with me to look after her, we've been best friends since which if you met us separately you'd never put us together. I'm loud, opinionated and Mrs Have To Be In Charge. She is the polar opposite but it's always worked!! I'm not religious but I believe she was sent to me as my best friend when I was very little died from leukaemia and without her I didn't have a bestest buddy (I formed very strong attachments to people even when I was little).

Gemini69 · 25/12/2017 12:36

Primary school.. we're all late 40's now Xmas Grin

TabbyTigger · 25/12/2017 12:37

Hahaha love that Calic0. Our core little group has always been 4 boys and 2 girls (siblings used to still sometimes do tag along) so we used to play crazy running around/fighting games with very few rules. Lots of bust lips and broken bones Grin I do remember dancing madly to “Eye of the Tiger” in our living room when we were about 6-8 though.

And there are some great photos of our “band”, which was when we were aged 2-4 and just banged spoons against turned up pots and pans on my friends’ grandma’s kitchen floor.

DPs mostly concurred with a lot of your answers - one has had a friend since primary school (some age 4/5) and the others mostly said high school.

since 1961, so 56 years. We moved into the house next door. Our mothers still live next door to one another.

BlondeB83 · 25/12/2017 12:38

4/5 years old. Now mid-30s.

TabbyTigger · 25/12/2017 12:39

LidlAngel what a lovely story. There are only 5 of us now as our 6th friend sadly passed away when we were aged 8-10 (she was 9 and in my classes and always my “pair” as we were the only two girls so it was a difficult adjustment) so I always think we were lucky to have each other through that.

Since 2nd year at school, so...28 years-ish. Bloody hell, that’s a long time! Love her though, she’s always there even though she lives a couple hundred miles away!

wewentoutonsunday · 25/12/2017 12:40

Since we were 7. We are now 40, so 33 years. We have lived in the same village and in the other side of the world and it has always been the same.

It was really brought home to how lucky I am when I moved to a new town, was ill and, looking around, realised that not a single person knew me at all.

TabbyTigger · 25/12/2017 12:40

GinUser that’s amazing! Totally reminds me of DD12 and her best friend who’s our next door neighbour. I so hope they stay friends.

ghostyslovesheets · 25/12/2017 12:40

since we were 15 so 32 years!

Mulberry72 · 25/12/2017 12:42

45 years, our Mums were best friends before we were born and we are too.

We even share the same 1st name.

Mountainpika · 25/12/2017 12:43

We don't see each other much as we live in different parts of the country but we keep in touch. We've known each other since we were about 6 - 64 years.

Graphista · 25/12/2017 12:43

Oldest 34 years, close friends 31, little gang of us have always stayed in touch and supported each other even though we don't all live nearby now.

TabbyTigger · 25/12/2017 12:45

Mulberry that’s exactly our story - three of our parents met at primary school and then met the other three at high school and stayed friends, and then across lived the same theee roads and all had children at relatively similar times so we were all basically brought up together. No duplicate names but at least one first/middle name of most of our children are after each other.

Oldest friend - met her when we were about 3/4. So coming on 35 years now!!! Have had periods we aren't in regular contact but it's been a pretty consistent relationship. We always go to birthdays and family events.

My other 2 dear friends will be 22 years this year (met at sixth form) and have been close ever since. No lapses in contact, no fading in and out.... They are my most secure relationship Grin

Also very close to someone I met as a young teenager. Didn't see her much for a decade (late teens to late 20's) but we've been in daily contact and see each other weekly for past decade... and we're both now nearing 40. We have kids a few weeks apart almost 3yo but had reaffirmed our closeness long before. Having kiddies so close was a nice bonus.

amusedbush · 25/12/2017 12:57

I moved schools when I was 9 and she was my 'buddy' on the first day. We're 27 now.
