To ask how long you’ve known your longest/oldest friend?

I’m away with friends who we go away with every Christmas and summer, and they’re friends I’ve had since I was literally a baby. We’ve never thought twice about it but it turns out all our DPs/DHs/DWs think it’s impressive/bizarre!

So I’m now just curious - how long have you known your longest running friend?

Oldest and best friend is from birth so 46 years. Our parents lived next door to each other; we then went to the same schools. Never lost touch and I couldn't ask for a better friend.

youvegottobekidding · 25/12/2017 19:28

Since we were at primary school, in reception so from about 4 i think, so 40 years, nearly 41! I've moved around the country a bit but we've managed to stay in touch. We're in different 'life stages' her daughter is all grown up ( in mid twenties) where my children are still under 13. I suppose we're a bit like chalk and cheese, but by god she's absolutely my best friend and i have had the most funniest and fondest of times with her and i don't get to see her nearly as half as much as i would like to as we live quite far away from each other.

UsernameInvalid66 · 25/12/2017 19:31

40 years (since the first day of secondary school) but with a 15ish year gap between leaving school and catching up again on Friends Reunited. We now see each other a couple of times a year as she lives a very long way away - about as far as you can get in England - but she usually comes on holiday to my region and also comes here for work occasionally and I have stayed with her too. We weren't particularly close friends back in our school days but she's the one who has lasted.

bringbacksideburns · 25/12/2017 19:35

Nearly 40 years here too. Since we were 11 and she moved on to our street and we were both in the same class.

She's more than just a best friend, she's like a sister.

I'm very lucky. She's lovely and always has been.

Gwynfluff · 25/12/2017 19:35

Also 41+ years from mums being neighbours. Quite different, but look alike and mistaken for sisters and similar values.

We have 3 kids each with 2 girls same age and 2 boys same age and have mixed all their lives and they’ve been in same classes and school together and they are friendly but no way the close friends we are!

BestIsWest · 25/12/2017 19:38

My closest friend, since we were 13 and we’re 54 now. I have others that I keep in touch with occasionally that I’ve known for longer but we’re not close.

OccasionalNachos · 25/12/2017 19:41

Since we were babies - our mothers were friends.

AfunaMbatata · 25/12/2017 19:43

About 2 months 😂

bluebump · 25/12/2017 19:53

My oldest friend and me were due to be born on the same day, our parents had been friends for years before that. I was a few days early, she was a few days late but we've been great friends for 39 years now!

juneybean · 25/12/2017 19:55

The one who I'm still in contact with I've known since we were 7 and we are now 32.

LockedOutOfMN · 25/12/2017 19:58

Met aged 6, best friends from 9/10. Now I'm 37 and she's 36.

TidyDancer · 25/12/2017 20:13

Closest friend since we were 7. Oldest friend since we were 3. Love them both a lot.

TidyDancer · 25/12/2017 20:13

Oh, I'm 34 btw, so quite a long time now!

Sevendown · 25/12/2017 22:02

The longest I see albeit only 3 times a year is since we were 5/start primary school.

On fb I have a friend since we were a few months old but haven’t seen each other face to face for 15 years.

One friend from high school left (I didn’t have a good time there) I see once or twice a year.

Unusually most of the friends I see most but still no more than 3/4 times a year were New friends I made in my 30s.

My work colleagues are probably my closest friends now as I see them every day.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 25/12/2017 22:05

I've known my oldest friend since the day she was born. She lives 60 miles from.me now but she is with me today, as is her dad.

My next oldest friend and I met in infant school when we were 4. We haven't lived in the same town since we were 18 but still meet up a couple of times each year.

ProzacAndWinePlease · 25/12/2017 22:08

I have a friend who was born very near the same time as I was. Our parents were friends and lived next door to each other at the time. So I've known her as long as I've been alive. We live far apart now and don't actually meet very often, but call each other now and again and send old fashioned cards and letters (she doesn't do social media), and it's always as if we've never been apart. Love her.

Squaffle · 25/12/2017 22:14

Since birth! Or technically before birth I guess... our Mums met in antenatal class and we’re still friends to this day!

SammySays · 25/12/2017 22:16

Closest as well as oldest friend since we were 3. We went to nursery together, primary school etc.

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 25/12/2017 22:17

Since we were 4 years old. Been best friends all that time. We are so opposite but get on like a house on fire, she's the best friend I could ask for. I've had lots of other very good friends but none I've stayed close to for long.

peachgreen · 25/12/2017 22:53

My cousin is my best friend, so from birth. But other than her, I met one at 16 and one at 18.

Welshwabbit · 25/12/2017 22:57

Since we were 2 at playgroup.

BillywigSting · 25/12/2017 22:59

Since we were 3, so 24 years.

I was around for her brother and sister being born, and she says she counts me as a sister. I say she's my sister I never had (only child so don't actually know what sibling love feels like but I would imagine it's something similar to how I feel towards her)

Maelstrop · 25/12/2017 23:03

Since we were 11. That’s almost 40 years. We don’t see each other often, but when we do, it’s like we’ve never been apart.

GinAndSonic · 25/12/2017 23:05

Our mums met when they were at the weighing clinic, so 30 years.

LordSugarWillSeeYouNow · 25/12/2017 23:06

We met at nursery when we were 2.
Went right through school together though we went to separate secondary schools.

She is very precise that there are 3 weeks and 1 day between us! She is 40 on Wednesday and I'm next month.

We've been through a hell of a lot in 38 years of friendship, I trust her implicitly.
