To ask for a double buggy?

My eldest will be 2years 5 months when i have my next baby family are telling me to make do with a buggy board although I think having a double buggy will make life so much easier for me to get out and about with 2 children. any advise for this? double buggy or buggy board?

Tough one.

If you have lots of spare cash, double buggy. However, it will only be really useful for six months or so, then she will want to be walking everywhere anyway, and you can buy the buggy board then.

If you are a bit hard up, buggy board straight away.

I used a sling for the baby and then DD was ready for a buggy board but DD1 was 2 and 9 months when DD2 was born.

double buggy, a lifesaver when you want to shop in peace, nothing worse than a tired 2 year old that wants to nap.

Look for one in the sales or local adverts (check supermarket for sale boards).

how much out and about will you actually be doing with your 2 kids? do you walk a lot now?
why not a sling for the first few months and then a buggy board?
I bought one for my 2 youngest and could't be without it as we walk their older sister to school and back each day.

But I can see if you don't walk a lot of places that it owuld be unnecessary ( who really wants to take 2 little kids out shopping...if you have it in the boot of the car I mean just fo rthat purpose?)

I bought a buggy board and my son spent the whole time just stepping off it while i was pushing the buggy. PLus i kept tripping over it as i was walking along.
So, no I would not reccommend a buggy board. I would reccommend the jane powertwin 3 wheeler double pushchair. I have got one and it is so light to push, and has a brake for when you are going downhill.

i got a double buggy for £5 from our local boot sale, ds1 is 3 but for that money it's worth it for the odd occasions i need them both in a pushchair

My DD was a snoozer - many happy afternoons spent wandering round Bluewater with DD in the front asleep and DS in the back! Alot depends on your life style. I was a walker, DH had the car most days so walking home from toddler group when DD was tired would have been hard work.

and practically speaking everyone has to shop hana!

well kbear, I avoid it at all costs with my 2 little ones, not fair on the 2 year old - I do my shopping on line and anything else I pick up locally to me on the highstreet.
Can see that it can't be avoided altogether of course, but I really do the minimal that I can with my 2.

I mean, I don't do any clothes shopping, or window shopping, or get things for mself when I have them

Thanks for your reply. I am having such a dilema on this. I will have just enough cash to get one although will be slightly pushing it. Also I do tend to get out for lots of walks, and with my baby due early november will need to be out straight after finishing xmas shopping. Also my eldest will not be starting pre-school until sept 2008 which means i will have 2 small children at home all day for nearly a year- would this sway you at all either way?

My DD was 3yr3mn when her DB arrived, and even though she more or less abandoned her pushchair at 18 months I found she regressed quite a bit and was jealous of him in the pram or pushchair - albeit a fab sister to him.

Luckily we had her stroller and a couple of times we took both, but obviously only possible when both me and DH were together.

Like you say if you take them out on your own you have no way of controlling them both together without having them in a double buggy.

But in order to get one that accomodates a newborn you are going to have to spend a bit more than if you were getting one for two older infants.

My SIL has 1 year and 11 months between her DD's and she has a one in front one behind contraption, but she say finds it heavy up curbs as the older child is in the front and also very long when negociating corners in shops.

There is another option, I have seen a sort of bike seat ride on that can be attached to a buggy, whould you older child find that more fun than a buggy board?? Also not standing so no complaints of hurting feet.

Was looking at the maclaren twin tecno it is reasonably light weight, will suit newborns and toddler and will fit through standard doors. This is also just in my budget for a double buggy any opinions on this?

I would advise get a double one with one at front and one at back cos sometimes you cant get them through doors and also the siblings sometimes like to bash each other

My dd1 was 2 years 5 months when dd2 was born, I was undecided whether or not to get a double buggy, I decided to wait until after the birth, in the end dd1 wanted to feel grown up and was happy to walk when we went out so I'm glad I didn't buy a double buggy.

I had this gap and moved DD1 out of the buggy while I was pregnant. We walked quite a long way together, too.

Kittylette- How old is the buggy? what colour? does it come withh all accessories ie-rain cover,cosy toes head support cushion etc? Is it the same as the one pictured in the latest mothercare cat? would obviously need to see first. I guess it would be pick up only so what area?

I have a 19mth gap between my two and have the maclaren twin techno which has been good (as far as double buggies go without spending a fortune) - for the 1st
4 or 5 months i used it everyday but now ds1 is 2 and 3 months and i use it perhaps once every 2 or 3 weeks and i walk everyday - i found i was pushing a half empty buggy most of the time as ds wanted to walk and they are bl*y impossibloe to steer 1 handed so got a buggy board and love it!

So IME with your gap double buggy would be a waste of time - but depends on your eldest - does he/she still sleep in buggy, do they like to walk etc etc.

I'd vote against the mcclaren twin buggy _ I had to borrow one of thse for a few weeks for my two and it was a nightmare - because fo the weight difference it was reallly hard to push , let alone fit through a lot of doors - I could fit through, but it was a struggle, and also hard on my back to push for any distance

and christmas shopping with 2 children, nightmare!! start now, or do it all online!!

I'd get a double buggy - but a cheap one as it probably won't be used for long. Chances are your eldest will regress a little and want to be pushed around in a buggy for a while. DD is 2.5 and never hasn't used her buggy for months and months, but I'm sure she'd want to if I had a baby in one. Woolworths do one for under £100 I think. Well worth the money if it fends off tired tantrums in shops/on walks for a few months.

I have bought a double buggy second-hand from Ebay. When my baby arrives in June, there will be a 2 year age gap between it and my daughter. Lots of people having been telling me not to bother but it is me who will have to cope with 2 young children out and about and I don't much fancy having to carry dd when she inevitably gets too tired to walk! I figure i can always sell the double buggy on again once I no longer need it!

What I can tell you is that it is virtually impossible to push a pram/pushchair and carry a screaming toddler.
