My eldest will be 2years 5 months when i have my next baby family are telling me to make do with a buggy board although I think having a double buggy will make life so much easier for me to get out and about with 2 children. any advise for this? double buggy or buggy board?

try and get a second hand double buggy, or borrow one.

powder28 · 23/04/2007 17:30

My friend got a second hand double buggy off ebay and she said it was in really fantastic condition for the price she paid.

powder28 · 23/04/2007 17:34

Kiddiecare is a good site for bargains

kittyhas6 · 23/04/2007 17:57

Shazza, I've only ever used a double for my first 2 (14 months apart) and these last 2 (15 months apart), thw other gaps were about 22 months and i used a buggy board, it was fine. I find doubles a nightmare.

hi, am joining this thread very late. i am facing a similar dilemma: have a 19 month old toddler who is not yet ready for a buggy board and another one on the way in a month's time. I am reluctant to splurge on a new double buggy. But today I was told that in Australia everyone just attaches a toddler seat to their single buggy. Has anyone come across this here and does anyone know if there is such a seat to fit onto a Bugaboo?

MrsHorgro · 21/01/2008 14:16

Hi Natski - I've just been looking for a solution to this dilemma and found something called a Buggypod - looks pretty good. It's a seat that attaches to the side of your existing buggy, with it's own wheel for support, and folds flat against the side of the buggy when not needed. Has anyone used one of these?

louloulouise · 21/01/2008 14:19

It really does depend how much the eldest walks - but there's another vote here for a sling!!! There's loads to choose from that you can use right through to toddlerhood - check out www.thebabywearer.com

Or get a cheap second hand double off ebay!

Et voila! Problem solved!

lazarou · 21/01/2008 14:20

None of the reviews I have read about those seats you attach have been great.

Have a look ata site called ciaou, lots of helpful reviews of all sorts on there

lazarou · 21/01/2008 14:21

that should be Ciao

My son will be 2yr 4 months when this baby is born (in 4 weeks time eek )
I have got a doubel buggy. DS can walk for miles, but never in the direction that I want to go in!! I cant imagine him staying on a buggy board for more than 2 seconds at a time.
Its all well and good people saying 'oh its not worth getting a double at this stage' but they arent the ones that will have to cope with the 2 kids day in and day out!!
I NEED a double buggy lol
If you are genuinly undecided as to whether you think you will need one, then you could always borrow/buy a cheap sling and try that out to start with and if you find it doesnt work for you then buy a double buggy once the baby is born!

mamamaggie · 21/01/2008 14:36

Dear Shazza
I think that everything is going to get A LOT harder work for you (I have DS1 2.6 and DS2 is 6 months) and a decent buggy is essential,by decent I mean one that won't hurt your back etc. Some afternoons, even if it is raining,I have to just get my two out of the house for a walk or I would go mad!I think you should really insist, have a tantrum etc. A double buggy isn't for your kids but to help YOU out. Second hand, or one you can sell later, by hook or by crook get one!!:0

RosaLuxOnTheBrightSideOfLife · 21/01/2008 14:51

I had this gap twice. When I had DD2 I got a buggy board - DD1 wasn't that keen on it and it absolutely killed my back. She did end up walking everywhere which was good for her, but as we lived nearly two miles from the shops and I don't drive, I would sometimes end up carrying her on my hip on the return journey - not so much fun.
When DD3 arrived I got a double buggy and really enjoyed the convenience - even though DD2 did walk a lot the extra seat was handy for shopping. However, as I said I do not drive and was expecting the children to walk up to five miles a day which is not always possible for a two or three year old.
IME very often the people who tell you a two or three year old doesn't NEED to be in a buggy have not experienced the reality of HAVING to walk longish distances because there is no other way of getting there and can often be quite sanctimonious even though their personal circumstances can be quite different to yours (just a little tangential rant there).

lazarou · 21/01/2008 14:51

I agree, a double pushchair is your best bet. Avoid side by side ones though, they are a nightmare to get through shop doorways etc.

ChirpyGirl · 21/01/2008 15:13

Definately a cheap double, I have loads of slings and try to carry DD2 as much as possible but when you are in the park it is hard to pick up a weeping/injured/whining toddler when you have another LO in a sling! and DD1 doesn't like to be carried so much now so doing it that way doesn't work either!

wb · 21/01/2008 16:29

I've just bought a second hand double buggy from ebay. My ds 2.2 years when baby arrives would be OK with a buggy board on a good day - but not when tired/ its raining/ stroppy.

I also had a lot of people telling me I was wasting my money, but strangely not those w. 2 kids and a similar age gap.

Staceym21AtLast · 21/01/2008 16:46

there was almost exactly 2 yrs between my two, people kept saying dd shouldnt still be in the buggy, she didnt walk until 18months and that was under much pressure from me and h.

i had the twin techno and it was great. got through most doors etc, although sometimes twas a bit of a pain. didnt have any trouble pushing although weight difference between my 2 isnt huge as dd is tiny and ds is huge!

id say get waht you think would be best, ignor everyone else, you're the one that's going to have to cope with it not them!

Ineedacleaner · 21/01/2008 17:45

I had a 2 yr 7 months gap and never had a double buggy. DD already walked most places and didn't nap in the day or in the buggy anymore. I tended to shop locally or online anyway and if we were ever out for a long day DH was with us and we could take another buggy although dd only ever used it once I think maybe twice. Only used the buggy board a handful of times as well.

BUT if I had another baby with the same age gap now with ds I WOULD buy one. DS still has a good sleep in the day and likes falling asleep in the buggy.

It is a hard question for other people to answer as how much children walk at that age varies hugely. If t the momaent you still use the buggy a lot then I think a double buggy might be a good idea even if you got one secons hand as like others have said you won't be using it for a huge amount of time.

Greecelover · 16/05/2009 12:46

Hi all

I am expecting no2 in Jan and there will be exactly two years between No1 and No2.

I have a Bugaboo chamaeleon which I would like to use again as a pram as the carrycot is excellent.

I've just come across the Revelo website - they make the Buggypod and the Twoo. Has anyone used these?

ZacharyQuack · 16/05/2009 12:59

My Phil & Teds buggy was the best bit of baby gear I had. There's a 20mth gap between DD1 and DD2, and I used to go for a long walk every afternoon, DD1 would snooze in the front seat (as she'd stopped napping in her cot) while DD2 babbled away in the back seat. I used it with 2 kids until DD2 was well over 2yo.

I'm sure those walks saved the tiny shreds of sanity I have left.

If you want one, and can afford one, get it. Don't listen to anyone else's opinion. You can always sell it later.

Fayrazzled · 16/05/2009 13:17

How much of a walker is your elder child? My son was 2years 2months when his baby sister was born. We got a buggy board and he never once asked to go in the pushchair. But he was a good walker and was used to walking with me. If your toddler is used to going in the pushchair whenever you go out then it will probably be a bit much to expect him/her to give it up for a sibling.

joannepayne · 16/05/2009 13:41

My girls are 13,11 and 7 i remember the debate we had . we didnt get one and definately should have!!!!!! get one definately!!! Do x

Pizazz · 16/05/2009 13:49

Depends massively on where you live as well. My friend Anissa bought a double buggy and couldn't get in any of the shops in her village! Tried a couple of different styles (spending hundreds on ebay in the process) before she gave up and went back to her zapp and a sling.

I recommend using a Karri-me or similar style sling though, as they offer good back support and sit baby centrally. The one shoulder ones will give you a bad back if you carry for too long/have a heavy child. I can happily carry Anissa's 4 year old in a Karri-me for long walks with not trouble. My 1 year old is too heavy in a ring sling!

Try posting a wanted ad on your local freecycle site - on my local one, double buggies seem to be offered quite often.
