To ask if you’re not having turkey for Christmas lunch, what will you be having?

We will be having Greek style lamb casserole this year. We have different food each year at Christmas and haven’t gone turkey for years. Tbh none of the family like it and find it fairly tasteless and dry. I think Christmas should be what you enjoy. Before the 1960s few people are turkey anyway at Xmas and if it wasnt for MIL insisting on turkey in previous years we’d never have it. As it is, I put my foot down a few years back and now we just do whatever takes our fancy each year. AIBU to think people just have turkey because everyone else does and they feel they “have to”?

We're having roast pork with all the trimmings. It's a family favourite and I'm a massive fan of crackling !

BewareOfDragons · 24/12/2017 17:17

We never have turkey.

Rib and sea bass this year, I believe, surf and turf. And roast potatoes and lots of different veggies. :)

pinotnoirismyjam · 24/12/2017 17:57

Mexican feast! It's just me and DP at Christmas, so not worth doing a full roast... plus I'm a vegetarian. I've marinated some steak for him and am currently slow cooking some black beans - yum!

SheDoneAlreadyDoneHadHerses · 24/12/2017 18:15

We're on buffet food................possibly till New Years at this rate.

aNutAboveTheBreast · 24/12/2017 22:41

We're having bratwursts and soup around the fire pit. So done with the same old, boring Christmas dinners! The buffet table will have lots of Mexican food. MIL has declined our invite.

Gammon with maple syrup and mustard. We are not crazy about turkey.

KurriKurri · 25/12/2017 00:15

Chestnut wellington, with roast potatoes, roast parsnips and carrots, green beans and peas.

I made the wellington today, so just need to do the veg and shove the wellie in the oven tomorrow.

BulletFox · 25/12/2017 00:16

Fish pie. I'm having my sprouts though.

JaceLancs · 25/12/2017 00:18

Stuffed leg of lamb here, with a huge free range chicken
Gammon for new year

CeciliaBartolli · 25/12/2017 00:20

Yum yum turkey is scrummy. Given a choice though, I would have Chinese, a very special one with loads of prawns and duck pancakes with hoi sin !

Willow2017 · 25/12/2017 00:31

Gammon with crackling kids and my favourite. Have duck in freezer for later in hols. Never bought turkey too big for us and we prefer chicken anyway

Had goose once, local free range -never again I was running out of jugs to put the fat in!

Evewasinnocent · 25/12/2017 00:34

Curry - on the beach in Goa - just waiting for my flight!

bluesu · 25/12/2017 01:23

Barolo braised beef as a nod to the time I spent living in Italy Xmas Smile

RockinHippy · 25/12/2017 01:54

A side of salmon topped with asparagus & cheese & roast. Served with all the usual Christmas veg

Titsywoo · 25/12/2017 01:57

Something italian. We're in New York and have booked a restaurant. They don't do the big roast here really as that's a thanksgiving thing.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 25/12/2017 02:39

Roast pheasants. I'm 58 and I've never cooked a turkey. I really don't like it.

FastWindow · 25/12/2017 02:43

Duck here. I'd happily eat veal if it was on sale for less than a squillion quid.

AstridWhite · 25/12/2017 02:49

All this Quorn on Christmas Day, honestly I could weep for you.

I don't care that you don't eat meat but surely to God there's something more tasty and interesting to eat to celebrate the birth of our saviour than Quorn?

Busybusybust · 25/12/2017 05:14

Beef wellington.

HerRoyalNotness · 25/12/2017 05:25

Roast lamb here. The Dc like the idea of turkey and will eat slow cooked BBQ turkey legs but will not eat my offerings bad cook
