To try to stick it out for two more days? (Illness related)

OfAlltheFlowers · 22/12/2017 19:06

I have something very wrong with me. 111 said to get to A&E. I can't really tolerate 4 hours in pain waiting to be seen. I don't want to go to Hospital A, as I was admitted for 5 days and they did nothing to resolve the problem.
I know nothing about Hospital B.
The alternative is trying to wait it out for another 48 hours and seek treatment in my home country.
I'm not an ambulance case (yet) at least.

What would you do? You know A did nothing, so don't know whether they will do anything now even though condition has worsened.
You know absolutely nothing about B.
You don't know exactly how serious condition is and whether trying to wait it out is wise.

What would you do?

Oh and problem is very painful.

OP posts:
Hippadippadation · 22/12/2017 19:11

Go to hospital B.

Stickaforkinimdone · 22/12/2017 19:12

What condition is it? And what country are you in?

OfAlltheFlowers · 22/12/2017 19:14

I'm in England and I'd prefer not to mention condition.

GlitteryFluff · 22/12/2017 19:14

If you’ve been advised to go to a&e then go.
If you don’t have faith in a then go to b.

Sirzy · 22/12/2017 19:16

If it’s bad enough you know you need a and e then you can’t wait 48 hours

OfAlltheFlowers · 22/12/2017 19:18

Couple this with the time of year it is and how busy hospitals are and that I'm headed into both Christmas and a weekend. I can't see either A or B doing anything immediately. If I can stick the pain, I'll try to get flight home and seek treatment there. Not sure if I can stick it though. Codeine not relieving pain.

OP posts:
BishopBrennansArse · 22/12/2017 19:18

Go to b.
If it's serious you may not make it home at all.

Rossigigi · 22/12/2017 19:20

Go to hospital- it may be something very serious, not worth the risk.
Take care lovely xXx

BishopBrennansArse · 22/12/2017 19:20

Also coming a cropper on the plane wouldn't be good. Is it something being in a pressurised compartment could exacerbate?

mrsreynolds · 22/12/2017 19:22

Please don't get on a plane with a serious medical complaint
That's dangerous and ridiculous
I understand your reluctance re a and e - I really do - but try hospital b

confusedlittleone · 22/12/2017 19:23

B- it would be idiotic to attempt to Fly while needing reasonable urgent medical treatment

OfAlltheFlowers · 22/12/2017 19:23

Bishop, it possibly is. But I don't know enough about it. It was a relative who is a doctor who advised trying to wait it out to get to home country for treatment (he has been a doctor both in home country and in England). It shouldn't be a problem or he wouldn't have advised flight I think.

OP posts:
Stompythedinosaur · 22/12/2017 19:23

You shouldn't go on a plane if seriously unwell.

Go to a hospital. I doubt you'd be treated by the same clinicians at A as last time, but if you really can't tolerate it then go to B.

cunningartificer · 22/12/2017 19:25

If you cannot tolerate the idea of waiting in pain for four hours in a&e then you are not being rational to think you can or should wait for two days. If things have changed then hospital A’s take on it will also change and they have your history. Hospital tourism (going to B) just means wasting a lot of time getting the whole history taken again. What did the hospital advise on discharge? 5 days is a significant stay.

OfAlltheFlowers · 22/12/2017 19:31

Hospital A discharged me with medication. Medication not working and condition worsening. Hospital B is under same Trust I think so should be able to access all records. I might just ring them and clarify that. I'm not being difficult but I have a phobia of Hospital A.

So far the advice I've had is 111 - go to A&E, mother - go to B, friend who is doctor - wait until home country, friend who is nurse - go to A.

I suspect it's the sort of condition that can cause all sorts of complications if not treated which is why I'm surprised by friend's advice to try to wait it out. Maybe he knows more than I do though!

Kitkatmonster · 22/12/2017 19:37

So, you’ve had medical advice and are ignoring that and asking the opinion of strangers on the internet. Yes, yabu. If you need attention seek it, if you do not then don’t.

OfAlltheFlowers · 22/12/2017 19:45

KitKat. If you read the thread, it's not as simple as go to A&E - if it were, I'd pay a fiver for a taxi and get to A asap. Problem is that A has not treated my symptoms, yet they are the ones with all my records of scans and xrays etc.

Aside from that, I've just rang Hospital B and they won't have access to my records from Hospital A.

What a bloody time of year to get sick. :(

OP posts:
Sirzy · 22/12/2017 20:00

To be fair to A just because the first course of treatment hasn’t worked that doesn’t mean they necessarily got it “wrong” but dependant on the condition some take time and an element of trial and error to get the right course of treatment

Katescurios · 22/12/2017 20:04

If you feel that you are able to wait 2 days, get to the airport, work through passport control/customs/security....take a flight, then get medical help in your home country then I'd have to assume it isn't an emergency right now.

If its not an emergency then A&E isn't suitable.

If it actually is an emergency and the above plan is not sensible or feasible then go to hospital A and seek treatment.

BikeRunSki · 22/12/2017 20:11

Seriously? You are in agony, but think flying might be a better option than A&E? Have a wire with yourself abs go to hospital; i’s go back to A, but go to B if you are phobic of A

OfAlltheFlowers · 22/12/2017 20:19

Kate - That's my dilemma. I'm not sure whether I could make it to the flight for a start (as it stands, I can walk to the bathroom and back and that's it), never mind carting a suitcase with me to Heathrow, and since condition is worsening I'm not sure whether it is actually an emergency. I feel faint and I'm sitting down! It's something that will need treatment pretty soon or it may cause a lot of internal damage. It's a symptom of a lot of potentially life-threatening conditions or it may be innocent enough. I suppose I should just head to A&E. I hate hospital so much. :(

OP posts:
Glumglowworm · 22/12/2017 20:23

YABU
Go to hospital A. They didn’t do nothing to resolve the problem, they prescribed medication which unfortunately isn’t working. They are best placed to find out why that might be and to prescribe an alternative treatment.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 22/12/2017 20:24

I don’t understand - if you can’t face 4 hours in A and E, how are you going to cope until you get back to your home country?

If you have something very wrong with you, go to hospital! Confused

NullaG · 22/12/2017 20:24

Go back to hospital A
