To try to stick it out for two more days? (Illness related)

I have something very wrong with me. 111 said to get to A&E. I can't really tolerate 4 hours in pain waiting to be seen. I don't want to go to Hospital A, as I was admitted for 5 days and they did nothing to resolve the problem.
I know nothing about Hospital B.
The alternative is trying to wait it out for another 48 hours and seek treatment in my home country.
I'm not an ambulance case (yet) at least.

What would you do? You know A did nothing, so don't know whether they will do anything now even though condition has worsened.
You know absolutely nothing about B.
You don't know exactly how serious condition is and whether trying to wait it out is wise.

What would you do?

Oh is it you again?

Sullabylullaby · 22/12/2017 22:02

Not sure what relevance it is to you who I am?

BumpowderSneezeonAndSnot · 22/12/2017 22:03

Yeah I wish you well I'm leaving this thread I remember how the last one went

Sullabylullaby · 22/12/2017 22:04

It's not as if I'm someone famous. But if it amuses you to call me THAT poster, away with you.

Sullabylullaby · 22/12/2017 22:05

Well I can't remember how the last one 'went' so good luck to you.

midnightflowers · 22/12/2017 22:08

Did you post about having a spot above your bum not so long ago?

Sullabylullaby · 22/12/2017 22:10

Lol, no, no spot above my bum.

Sullabylullaby · 22/12/2017 22:11

I do have a haemorrhoid though?

BumpowderSneezeonAndSnot · 22/12/2017 22:11

Discharged from hospital and told to eat more protein or something like that

itsbetterthanabox · 22/12/2017 22:12

What treatment is it you need that they didn’t give? Did they say why?
I’d go back. They may have discharged as you were doing better but if they don’t know you are now getting worse they can’t help.

Sullabylullaby · 22/12/2017 22:13

Nope. Given drinks to bring my nutrients up.

Sullabylullaby · 22/12/2017 22:18

Basically there is a mass of fluid around all my organs putting pressure on them all (normally your organs sit in fluid anyway). Instead of draining the excess fluid, they gave me diuretics. Despite diuretics, fluid is just building up and up. Still no peeing or pooing. Can't fit anything into me food/drinks wise. Putting pressure on heart and on lungs (can't take a deep breath). I know it's potentially dangerous, but I'm not a doctor. They discharged me. What can I do? Have rang 111 twice now so they're sending a paramedic to assess me. Not a hope in hell of me making it home for Christmas :(

BumpowderSneezeonAndSnot · 22/12/2017 22:19

Sorry you're going through this but it sounds like hospital is the best place for you. Hopefully they'll drain the fluid now.

Sullabylullaby · 22/12/2017 22:20

In fairness to my mother, she said that she will do Christmas again in a few weeks time if I can't make it. I want to cry though.

BillyDaveysDaughter · 22/12/2017 22:21

No midnight that's the health anxiety one obsessed with her bowels.

Sullabylullaby · 22/12/2017 22:23

Hospital on Christmas day has to be the most miserable prospect ever. I won't even have any visitors. Might join the Mormons or Jehovahs so somebody will visit me.
I know it's just another day. I know, I know, I know.

BumpowderSneezeonAndSnot · 22/12/2017 22:25

It's 3 days away. You may escape in time providing you're admitted tonight.

Hospital on Christmas day has to be the most miserable prospect ever

I spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in hospital with DH a few years ago. I’ve had worse to be honest.

midnightflowers · 22/12/2017 22:37

Sorry for getting you mixed up with another poster and hope you get sorted soon

lougle · 22/12/2017 22:39

Hmm, that's not a good situation to be in. I presume (and please don't feel obliged to answer if you don't want to) that the ascites is from a known and chronic cause, and that they had a rationale for not draining the ascites? Even so, if the diuretics haven't kept the ascites at a level that you can function at, then you do need to return. At the very least, they can prescribe better ones. Or they may feel that it's time to drain the ascites with a pigtail drain, depending on your condition.

Do you feel you are constipated, or obstructed?

lougle · 22/12/2017 22:41

I have to say, as a nurse, that we always try and make Christmas nice. Our hospital always has a competition between the wards for the best decorated ward, and the carol singers come around, etc. It isn't home, but it isn't just another day, either Smile

Evening everyone and thanks for all the reports about this thread.

Whilst it's great that MNers are offering support and advice, we think the best course of action for you, OP, is to seek real life help as quickly as possible.

Best of luck and hope you get answers and help asap.

Well after all your advice, I eventually went to hospital C. Cried all day today as they wanted me to stay in for a week.

So, I've come home and am taking my flight tomorrow and heading straight to hospital there. At least I'll be close to family and have visitors.
Still in a lot of pain, but consultant said I am fit to fly. Only difference between being at home tonight or being in hospital is that they would keep me on a fluids drip as I was vomiting all day (mainly with stress I think).
This has really opened my eyes to the misery some people with long-term illnesses have to go through. Hospital is a miserable place. Pain is torture.
I wish you all a happy and healthy Christmas and if you're the praying type, please say a prayer that I make it home without much difficulty tomorrow.

OP posts:
BishopBrennansArse · 23/12/2017 21:35

I really hope all goes well, OP.
Would it be worth sucking ice to try and get some fluid in tonight?

lougle · 23/12/2017 21:42

I am very much a praying type Smile, so I'll pray that you travel well, with the least pain possible, and swift treatment on landing, with as much Christmas spirit intact as possible.

Merry Christmas Xmas Smile
