To try to stick it out for two more days? (Illness related)

OfAlltheFlowers · 22/12/2017 19:06

I have something very wrong with me. 111 said to get to A&E. I can't really tolerate 4 hours in pain waiting to be seen. I don't want to go to Hospital A, as I was admitted for 5 days and they did nothing to resolve the problem.
I know nothing about Hospital B.
The alternative is trying to wait it out for another 48 hours and seek treatment in my home country.
I'm not an ambulance case (yet) at least.

What would you do? You know A did nothing, so don't know whether they will do anything now even though condition has worsened.
You know absolutely nothing about B.
You don't know exactly how serious condition is and whether trying to wait it out is wise.

What would you do?

sillysausage, because I felt like it.

Sullabylullaby · 22/12/2017 21:08

In too much pain now to care.

BumpowderSneezeonAndSnot · 22/12/2017 21:09

Well stop arguing and go and get seen. Sooner seen sooner home again

Sullabylullaby · 22/12/2017 21:12

I'm not the one arguing. I asked for advice and all I get is abuse. FFS. Some supportive website this is.

Ragusa · 22/12/2017 21:21

Come on OP. Get yourself seen. If you live overseas do you have appropriate insurance or EHIC?

chandlersfraud · 22/12/2017 21:32

I'd google it to see what the potential complications could be.

lougle · 22/12/2017 21:34

It's really hard to advise without any detail, so without sounding harsh, it's little wonder that the advice you've got is a bit short at times. From a medical point of view, if your symptoms are 'just' pain, and your general vital signs are stable, that's much more reassuring than if your heart rate is abnormal, temperature is high (or low), or your blood pressure is affected. That, along with whether you are passing urine normally, having normal bowel motions, etc., can be very informative. Then symptoms such as pain or sensitivity to light, stiffness in any limbs or your neck, etc., any rashes or skin changes, bruises, etc.

So a vague 'symptoms unspecified but definitely worse' really doesn't help to narrow the options of hospital A, B or wait.

I think it would be very irresponsible to knowingly fly, though.

Sullabylullaby · 22/12/2017 21:44

Blood pressure high (for me). Heart rate 130. Temp normal but feel very cold. Urine not passing is 90% of the problem (discharged with diuretics). Can't eat as stomach swollen. No normal stool in about a month. Maybe a squirt here and there. (sorry for that piece of info). Pain in abdomen ranging from top of stomach to bottom of stomach i.e. down at the very bottom. Lower back pain and pain radiating up spine and into right hand shoulder. Basically ascites but they wouldn't drain it. Now I'm twice the size. I've gone from a size 8 to looking 9 months pregnant (no exaggeration) in 10 days. Bloods are 'deranged' is the word they used. They stabilised bloods apart from potassium which is low.

BumpowderSneezeonAndSnot · 22/12/2017 21:45

Go to A&E sounds serious

Sullabylullaby · 22/12/2017 21:45

Discharged with diuretics and potassium tablets. Paracetamol was hitting the pain, now cocodamol not hitting it. Feel like my body is about to rip apart.

Sullabylullaby · 22/12/2017 21:49

Also vomiting occasionally.

BumpowderSneezeonAndSnot · 22/12/2017 21:51

I hope you're on your way to hospital

Sparklesdontshine · 22/12/2017 21:51

Liver failure? My dad died from that, go to hospital

BumpowderSneezeonAndSnot · 22/12/2017 21:52

Sounds like faecal impaction

SparklyUnicornPoo · 22/12/2017 21:52

OP you are clearly in a lot of pain, in the nicest way possible if you are feeling like you might faint sitting down and can barely walk to the loo you will not make it through the airport onto a plane anyway. You have said its something that could cause internal damage if not treated soon, Christmas is not worth damaging your health over, you can always have Christmas at a later date, or next year.

Sullabylullaby · 22/12/2017 21:55

Snot - you haven't a clue. I've had CT scans, abdominal scans, pelvic scans. There is no food in there to be impacted. As I said, it's ascites. They sort of stabilised me in hospital where I was at least peeing (hadn't peed for 3 days before I went in), but that's it. LFTs all normal on discharge as far as I know (in that they didn't tell me they were not normal).

BumpowderSneezeonAndSnot · 22/12/2017 21:56

You're right I don't nor does anyone else which is why we are saying go to hospital

Sullabylullaby · 22/12/2017 21:58

This all started early November. Liver not producing albumin, so kidneys can't work. Was admitted for 10 days then. Now it's just come back again in the past 10 days or so.

Sullabylullaby · 22/12/2017 21:59

And I have said that I am going.

BumpowderSneezeonAndSnot · 22/12/2017 22:00

Oh you're THAT poster!!
