CF husband. Can you beat this?

DH has an inbuilt distrust of internet shopping so when I placed my Ocado Christmas order he became very agitated and insisted that all the fresh vegetables be removed as he wished to choose them himself.

OK, I say. If you wish to visit the supermarket on the busiest day of the year to buy exactly the same items that would have been carried straight into our kitchen then who am into argue? Vegetables were removed.

This morning, on his way to the gym he suggested I might like to go to Waitrose this evening to purchase the Christmas fucking vegetables whilst he enjoys a drink at the pub. After he’s finished playing golf. Xmas Shock

I have explained in good Anglo Saxon English that this will not be happening. Oh, and it’s his family coming, not mine. Xmas Grin

AIBU to suggest he is the CF of the day?

Your "d"h isnt even deserving of a christmas Biscuit

swampytiggaa · 22/12/2017 22:20

My poor husband is currently hard at work at Tesco filling the shelves after the onslaught today and ready for the repeat tomorrow 😕 he will break up for Christmas at 7am Christmas Eve and will be back in at 10pm Boxing Day 😕 provided he can avoid being called in to work 6-12 Christmas Eve night.

Happy Christmas 😉

Ikanon · 22/12/2017 22:23

@ticklady find him? I made him Grin

People tell me I'm lucky DH does all the cooking and the food shop I booked the slot 3 weeks ago due to him not planning ahead last year But do they tell him he's lucky I clean, iron, do the washing, washing up, house insurance, mortgage, childcare arrangements? We're a good pair as I don't mind things he hates and vice versa.

Choosing your own veggies in a packed, noisy, harrassed environment or on the sofa? Your DH is crazy!

BunsOfAnarchy · 22/12/2017 22:55

What the actual took.

Get one massive sack of spuds and hurl it at his head

BlackeyedSusan · 22/12/2017 23:35

morrisons was fine tonight busy wise. they had run out of some stuff though.

CheshireChat · 22/12/2017 23:46

Most shops around here have that slightly sad feel that shops get after Christmas. There's no decorations left, no Christmas jumpers etc.

Our Tesco had a really great Santa and tons of food though.

CheshireChat · 23/12/2017 00:59

DP just realised that his plan to drag everyone out to Tesco tomorrow is ill advised and has gone to our nearest Asda now Grin.

Lj8893 · 23/12/2017 01:12

ticklady DH is a chef, which is a good thing really as I burn toast.

musicposy · 23/12/2017 01:43

I've had similar. DH wanted a homemade Christmas pudding, I said I'm not doing it, it's bought or nothing. So he said he would make it.

I've had to source and buy 101 impossible ingredients (I was already thinking "never again" by this stage alone) then it took him HOURS to make. I've never known such a faff. Then he left the kitchen looking as though a bomb had hit it. I wasn't clearing the devastation so I said he was going to clean up after himself, every last bit. He did a lot of huffing and puffing and "I'll do it later" because he was "tired" after all the cooking and needed a rest. After an hour of resting I put my foot down and said "I'm not living in this pit, there's not a single inch of surface in the kitchen, you bloody do it now."

It took him until 9pm to tidy and wash everything up. Accompanied by lots of banging about and deep sighs. AND he realised he hadn't followed the recipe properly and had left out some of the ingredients so it will probably be inedible.

Next year he's getting a vienetta for Christmas pud, I swear.

Do not give in, OP. That way madness lies.

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 23/12/2017 02:49

Oooft that is one CF classic!! Dear god. Tbf it sounds exactly like something my DF would do. He's always so keen on sticking to his principles (memories of holidays spent driving for hours while we were hungry and miserable because he simply refused to go to a MacDonald's or similar). My poor DM could definitely relate to this.

@musicposy nooo, hope you've got some back up puddings handy...😂

Apocalyptichorsewoman · 23/12/2017 03:17

Get him an arctic roll! Grin

Weezol · 23/12/2017 04:13

I am on the hooks of tenter waiting for the next update.

SamineShaw · 23/12/2017 05:59

I am truly honoured and humbled at being nominated as having the CF DH of 2017. Unless, of course someone can do better? Which I’m sure they can and will!

Came home yesterday to find kitchen a bomb site despite DH being home all day. When I mentioned it I got "it's my day off! I'm not doing that on my day off!" Hmm

swampytiggaa · 23/12/2017 07:43

Husband has just come home from his night shift at Tesco. The car park was rammed at 7am. Lots of stock hasn’t come in.

Didn’t ask him about the veg 😁

FrJohnnyHellzapoppin · 23/12/2017 08:36

@swampytiggaa many thanks to your oh and all retail workers over Christmas, hope he isn’t called in on Christmas Eve

IcedCocoa · 23/12/2017 08:42

Yes swampy let’s hope your DH gets some rest.

I was in Waitrose last night (not my usual shop, i was just wanting one thing) and they were marking down the veg to literally pennies. It was about half an hour before closing. It’s all good quality stuff. I got what i needed. I am happy.

Annelind · 23/12/2017 08:59

Another "thank you" to retail workers and their spouses Xmas Smile who I'm sure would much rather spend this time together! I no longer do last minute Christmas eve shopping, but know how fraught supermarkets can be from past experience!

Tomselleckhaskindeyes · 23/12/2017 09:01

He would be under the patio obviously after buying the Christmas veg!

hmmmmm · 23/12/2017 09:11

Dh loves cooking but so do I. His first wife hated cooking. She cooks a bit now.

SimonBridges · 23/12/2017 09:22

Came home yesterday to find kitchen a bomb site despite DH being home all day. When I mentioned it I got "it's my day off! I'm not doing that on my day off!

😮

I hope you gave him both barrels!!

Graphista · 23/12/2017 11:35

Ugh "it's my day off" yes day off from work not life! My ex used to do this shit. Military so loads of leave more than I got which had to be used so he'd often be home when I was working, I'd come in to find he'd done nothing but play video games and eat! Often hadn't even had a shower or brushed his teeth Envy boak.

Response I'd get "I'm on leave" yes that's leave from work, I'm not working 8/10/12 hours and commuting to come home to a shit tipAngry

As I say EX - wife 2 puts up with all of it! More fool her - and they have 5 kids too, she does it all at home and works full time. He can't cook either and by memory I know on the odd occasion he does do any wife work he wants a medal and fucking ticker tape parade!

MatildaTheCat · 23/12/2017 12:01

Oh dear. It seems there's a lot of it about.

So, update for this morning. Last night we had a nice chat about which vegetables we would be serving. If we had any. DH declared that he will be buying everything today and all he needs is a list.

This morning he woke, read the paper and drank tea then made moves towards a shaggy. This presented me with a dilemma since it seemed mean to deny someone a shred of comfort in these circumstances but on the other hand I felt he should conserve his strength.

He then walked the dog whilst I amended his list to include bun tins, pastry cutters (round and star shaped see upthread) and some other niche, random shit. Plus, obviously the Christmas Vegetables.

He has returned from the walk and now munching toast in front of the telly because the football is on and must be watched. So he is thinking of mid afternoon which will, I am certain be super empty and delightful. [Fhmm]

If anyone wishes to propose additionalitems for his list I will consider each suggestion.

I will update..

Graphista · 23/12/2017 12:08

He's going mid afternoon?! Oh boy! Busiest time. Any quick Google shows that on the wee chart.

I've a couple wee things to get, not essential but I'm planning to go to 24 HR Tesco around 10pm which is apparently the quietest time.
